Well worth a visit

Played here 10 years ago and we were pleased that the course was still not surrounded by residential properties
Great layout with each hole very independent, lots of flora and fauna. Gators cruising and lots of varied bird life.
Friendly welcome from the starters and Pro shop, good range and chipping facilities.

-vs were slightly shabby tees and the greens were ok but on the slow side and had suffered a bit of pitch mark damage.

It’s a top dollar course and we’d definitely play here again.

Value for Money Golf

A nicely laid out course without too much interference on each hole from other fairways. Heavy traffic meant there were quite few divots to contend with but that said course was in good condition.

Friendly welcome from the Pro and a reasonably priced breakfast was available. Starters could have been a bit more Ames able but they were coping with a large bunch of Rusty Zips! who just couldn’t get themselves organised. Biggest issue was the starters allowing a couple of couple to jump into the flow of play on the back nine “because they’d stopped for lunch. Turned a sub 4 hrs round into 4hrs 30!

Overall we would play here again but maybe look for a less busy time.

Forget your mid irons! Bring fairway metals and hybrids!!

Took advantage of an early teetime being available after Super Bowl Sunday and a poor weather forecast which probably persuaded some pre-booked players to cancel! Being from the UK a spot of wind and rain doesn't phase me and as it turned out the weather was very benign. This was fortunate because even playing of the Green tee, 6,600 yards the coures plays really long, and that's when you're hitting from the short stuff! Never hit some many 200yd approach shots. That said the ball sits up on perfect fairways which helps. First cut of semi is fine but stray into the proper rough and you've no chance of moving the ball far enough.

Greens were perfect although my playing partners (locals who know the course) said they were a bit slow! I'd watched plenty of the Pros playing the Farmers miss short puts and blaming the type of grass, powana? but for me they were excellent surfaces.

Green fees are high for non San Diego residents but I felt I got value for money in playing a US Open venue (quite well) and am looking forward to seeing the course on TV again so I can regale my friends with where I hit my shots relative to where the pros are!!

Not a Walking Course!!

Got a good GN Hot Deal and read some favourable reviews so we thought we'd give The Crossings a try as it wasn't too far from our holiday location. We were met by very friendly bag drop, pro and starter. Cart was included in the fee but no range balls which had to be purchased from the Pro. Range a bit limited and off mats on the day we played but good enough to loosen the muscles.

Starter let us go a bit earlier than our booked time but with it being Super Bowl Sunday afternoon there weren't many other groups around. The 4 some we caught up with let us through as we were only a twosome and from then on there were no other hold ups. One thing about this course is that there are huge distances between each hole and despite not having to wait for other groups, or hunt for any balls it still took the two of us 4 hours to get round and this is purely due to the distances between greens and tees. I imagine if the course is busy POP could be very slow with traffic getting to the 12th possibly impersonating the I5 interstate!

Course had suffered a bit of damage from the recent rains and some of the semi rough was very patchy but the greens played and rolled well and not overly quick which made putting a bit easier than some of the previous course we'd played.

Overall we enjoyed the course, the elevations from some of the tees were spectacular and on a sunny day I expect the views of the Pacific would be great, unfortunately we had a cloudy day and didn't see much in the way of views.would probably play here again if we could get the same rate from GN but the rack rate for non Carlsbad residents seems a bit high.

Top Notch!

Got a great GN rate for a midday teetime and got to the course early enough to use the range. Great welcome service from the bag drop and Pro when checking in. Good quality range and range balls so a good warm up and a test of the putting stroke before being sent to the first tee.

We had expected to be paired up with another couple but the starter let us go as a two although this was a bit frustrating for the first few holes being behind a very slow 4 Ball. However the Marshall soon sorted that out and we were let through very promptly so having played the first 3 holes in just under an hour we then played millionaire golf for the rest of the round without seeing anyone else in front and finished in just under 4 hours so great POP.

Carts are well equipped with a good Touch screen GPS that made my range finder redundant

Course was immaculately prepared with only a couple of holes, apart from the short holes, being cart path only which was understandable given the recent heavy rains in this area. Greens were very good, not overly quick, some evidence of pitch marks but given our teetime these may just have been from the mornings play.

Overall a great experience. We'd played Boulders twice earlier in the holiday and thought that course would be difficult to beat but I felt the undulating fairways of Troon Pinnacle just pipped the North at Boulders but both course get a 5 Star rating from me and my wife.

Bould(ers) Over!

My wife kept going on about playing Boulders when we were planning our trip to AZ. Not sure where she'd got the info from but I'm glad she had as this course was just great from the moment we arrived (after a slight detour around the neighbouring estate where Fred & Wilma Flintstone and his mate Barney must live. The closet thing to Bedrock!)

Bag drop guys gave us all the info we needed! Pro very friendly and onto the range. Plenty of targets, great range balls and someone even turned our cart around to face the right way when we were ready to go to the first tee.

I played from the Whites, c6,350 yds and my wife from the Gold tees c 5,400 yds. With the fairways beautifully manicured but lush from the recent rains in the area this made the holes play quite long but still fair. Greens were running at 11 and very smooth and without too many severe undulations our putting should have been better, but can't blame the greens for our poor performance on them!

POP a bit slow but we still got around in just over the stipulated 4:30 that the course suggest it should take.

High end course but worth the money and if you are able to chip a few dollars off with a GN Hot Deal like we did then it's even better value! We would definitely play here again.

Worth the time getting there!

Booked Estrella without knowing the geography of where the course was in relation to where we were staying so the trip to get there took a bit longer than anticipated as the course was right across the other side of Phoenix. Not too bad getting there but awful on the return journey due to rush hour.

However, the course was good value given the GN Hot Deal. Some of the bunkers looked as if they needed a bit of TLC but maybe the wild rugged look is in this year? Greens ran well, pace of play was good at just 4.5 hrs for our round in a packed field. Course has been rated very highly in previous surveys of the best courses in Arizona and it would certainly test you off the back pegs. Just a little extra manicuring around the tees and greens would certainly keep the course in the top good value courses to play in this area. We would certanly play here again if time permitted.

Testing but fair.

Booked Paiute Wolf after reading the GN reviews and a good Hot Deal rate.

Despite the very cold and very windy conditions both my wife and I really enjoyed the course and finished the round with the same ball we started with. I played off the Yellows tees, around 6400yds which was fair given the windy conditions. Fairways are reasonably generous but not silly wide so you still need to hit good shots to have a chance of hitting the greens in regulation. My wife played the Reds but switched to Whites on the short holes as she felt the Reds were a bit too friendly.

Greens were tricky, fast and slopey and the wind made them even trickier!, pace of play was good on a busy day with our round taking just a tad over 4 hours.

Pre round we enjoyed a very good value breakfast buffet (only available at the weekends I believe). Pro and all the bag drop staff were very friendly and helpful and the starter shuffled things around to ensure we got off on time.

Overall it was certainly worth the 40 min drive out of Las Vegas to play the course and if we had time we would probably play here again or even try one of the two other courses at the Resort.

A bit of a trip to a little gem!

Enjoyed a very nice trip from La Jolla to Ramona to play here and it was worth the journey, just for the scenery if nothing else. Pro was very welcoming as were the staff in the restaurant where we had a very substantial breakfast.
No bag drop and we didn't try the range but this did look a bit limited. Pro called us to the tee a bit earlier than our booked time and this put us, as a two ball, in the middle of lots of fourball so but this probably would have been the case all day as it was a Sunday and Valentines Day also so the course was bound to be busy!
Course itself was very pleasant and quite challenging, even off the white tees. Some of the tees needed a bit of a trim and a couple of fairways were a bit "scabby" but in all the condition was good and the greens quite true if a little slow. Given the amount of play this course gets as a resort course condition was very good.
Overall this is a nice course to play and good value if a little off the beaten track. Would probably try and choose a mid week day when it might be a little quieter.

Enjoy the speedy undulating greens!!!

Chose this course based on previous GN positive reviews and we weren't disappointed. We could have got a cheaper fee if we'd gone for a Hot Deal but preferred an earlier teetime but even then the cost was very reasonable.

Staff all very friendly and accommodating. We arrived just as a team 4 Ball Scramble was going out so a little concerned the POP would be poor but after a great breakfast, the kitchen opening early for us, we had a few balls in the range and the the starter got us out early as well. No sign of the team event so we moved really quickly.

Played Canyon and Vine. I played the Blacks which gave a good test, some tight tee shots but also some where you can let rip. My wife played the golds with the odd red when there were big carries. The really tricky part about this course is the speed and undulations of the greens. They were mega quick and a couple of pin positions were in quite severe positions with approach putts and chips looking good at one stage and then continuing off the green and in a couple of cases down the banks into the ravines never to be seen again!

Overall opinion was we enjoyed the whole experience of Steel Canyon and would play again if we are back in the San Diego area. Thanks for a great day.

Matt Ginella got this right! The

It might seem over the top to give all categories a 5 star rating but Maderas hit all the right spots and in our minds was worth the trip, and the money although a good Hot Deal from GN made this even more enjoyable.

Course was in great condition, played off the Blues which made it a challenge but still playable, my wife played off a mixture of whites and greens and probably wishes she'd stuck just to the forward tees but still enjoyed the experience.

Pro, Starter and all the other staff we met were very welcoming and the starter spent some time explaining the course, especially the large size of the greens and to club up if pins were at the back which did help a lot.

Pace of play was great and we were round as a 3 ball in 3 3/4 hours. Like all courses played for the first time you want another go to benefit from a bit of course knowledge and we've already booked another visit.

A Gem in the middle of nowhere

Tipped to play Borrego Springs by a great guy in Lumpys La Quinta who said it was a fun place to play on the way to San Diego.

Course was busy but the starter got us off the back nine which we played in 1 1/2 hours and the front took a bit longer at 2 hours as we caught the field.

Course off the Blacks is quite challenging although fairways are generous enough to let rip. Greens were fantastic reasonably quick and very true. Fortunately we didn't visit many of the bunkers which did look a bit wear worn. This is due to the sand being whipped away by the winds they get in this area.

Overall a great little course that you need to be aware of otherwise you'd blast straight past it without knowing it was there!

Great Value

I'd taken quite some time choosing where to play our one and only round in this area. Tempted by the big names on the Monterey penninsular but in the end was persuaded by the great reviews Bayonet had already had plus a great GOLFNOW Hotdeal.

Friendly Pro and Starter getting us off early and before some 4somes. Conditions a bit wet after the recent rains and this made the Cart Paths Only instruction a bit tiresome as we never seemed to play our balls anywhere near the Path! This mafpde clubbing a bit of a lottery but course upheld up well and the greens were fine. Pace of Play a two ball was OK once we got Val,ed through by a fourball of young bucks who seemed to be playing for the town hall clock!

Would definitely play here again if in the area.

Better than I was expecting!

Got a great rate on a GN HotDeal of $25 each including cart so took the attitude that if we weren't enjoying the course we'd lose nothing by finishing after nine holes. As it turned out the course and overall experience of SBGC was great. For a heavily played track it was in good condition and the greens were true and reasonably quick.

Previous reviews had criticised the staff's attitude but we found the Pro and starter very friendly and accommodating.. The range is a bit short and limiting and the range balls are awful but for getting the rust out of your swing it does the job.

Pace of play was poor to start with until a 4some who knew their way around decided to double back and repeat a couple of holes which led to a clear run in front of us and finished in under 4:15 which for a two ball in a mainly 4 ball field was fine.

Overall very happy for the $50 bucks spend.

Being your best Driving game

Great looking course with long drives through woods and scrubland between greens and tees and aptly named given the variety of hawks, osprey eagles etc.

Although only 6,500 off the tips this is very much a drivers course and even good drives slightly off the middle of the fairway could be penalised by the sharp run offs into impenetrable jungle, possibly a little unfairly!

Greens were true but a little slow for our liking but course generally was well presented.

Pace was good at just under 4 hrs with rangers moving slower groups along nicely. Starter very accommodating in getting us off early and a pleasant welcome from the bag drop guys and the Pro.

Would definitely play here again but would probably move up a tee, especially the 18th which is a monster off the blacks.

Bring plenty of balls and your binoculars.

Nice friendly club feel to this place with a smiley Pro and Starter.

Course isn't long at 5,500 off the backs but its not about length it's about water which features on every hole. It's very much a thinking round rather than blasting off every tee with driver.

Pace wasn't good for the first nine but the ranger appeared and the problem group went in after nine and things quickened. Greens were good pace but not stupidly quick.

Wildlife was abundant with two very large gators sunning themselves along side a couple of greens. Ospreys all over the place and any amount of other birdlife.

Lost more balls here to the water than all my other rounds combined this trip but still enjoyed the course and would happily play here again.

Not bad for a very busy place!

Arrived for a noon tee off time and action around the clubhouse was busy and a bit chaotic but once checked in everything slotted into place. Range balls not in the GN cost at $7 a bag and had to hit these off a very sandy deck so not brilliant.

Course is very much in the middle of a large residential complex but unless you're really wild the houses and lanai don't really get in the way.

Blue tees gave a competitive but not brutal test and the greens were very good for the amount of traffic although not scary fast.

We were a two ball so pace for us was slow but still round in just over 4hrs so OK really. Bar area looks as though it will rock on Superbowl Sunday or any other sports event for that matter. Great location to play while your partner shops across the road in the Mirimar outlet mall.

Great course but condition needs a bit of attention

Great layout and challenging off the blue blocks. Pace of play a bit slow and no ranger to chase up the slow groups.

This was a our second visit and the condition of the course seemed to have deteriorated since our first trip back in 2011.

Whether It was due to our late tee time but several greens were pock marked with pitch marks, many bunkers not raked and some of the tees were very patchy.

Staff great on reception and on course.

Overall I still enjoyed the course but would have felt a bit short changed if I hadn't got a good Hot deal rate from Golf Now given some of the course conditions. Treviso Bay is as good a challenge and in better nick.

We will visit again but for an earlier tee time.

Nice course for holiday golf. Challengingly friendly!

Second time we've played here and pleased we came back. Course is interesting off a variety of tees. Lots of water and birdlife to go with it.

Pace of play for a full course was good at just over 4 hours. Greens slick as they all seem to be out here and you need to be the right side of the hole to have a chance of holing anything.

Staff efficient but not overly chatty but then we were there to golf not talk, and they were busy! Good menu in the clubhouse and lots of Sam Sneed memorabilia. Would definitely play again.

Generous fairways!

Well maintained course with abundant birdlife and some gators to watch out for. Personally found the size of the very generous fairways not challenging enough.

Large greens with some sever undulations. These were fast and tricky from the wrong side of the hole.

Staff were great and got us out early ahead of a few four balls so pace was great and round in under 4 hours.

Downside is the distance of the course from downtown Naples
