Having played the excellent 18-hole course at Mannings Heath, I was surprised at how poorly maintained its nine-hole Kingfisher course was. The green keeping staff are evidently spending all their time on the main course, which possibly makes sense. On each of the nine tees there was virtually no grass. You were teeing up on a bumpy, hard surface. The fairways in general were dry, hard, full of holes and in need of repair. The greens for the most part were acceptable, though again there were many areas in need of obvious maintenance.
