Course recovering from the winter nicely

The course over all in good condition, especially this time of year. The greens were good speed, but many had significant damage and all were bumpy in places. Bunkers were raked and carts were 90 degree rule - nice change from path only. Fairways in good condition, and not too much recycled goose food on the fairways [if you know what I mean].

Going low at Foster

This course is short, fairly tight at times, with a couple of holes that have water bordering. Keep it in the fairway and you can go low.
I used driver "just cuz'" and drove 3 greens. Nice when youre putting for eagle 3 times in a round. Not much challenge really, but it makes for a relaxing and enjoyable round of golf whether you are just starting out, or an old man like me trying to regain some of my lost youth.
Oh, and by the way, the greens were in magnificent condition.

A little wind makes a big difference

A flat course without any really outstanding challenges or holes. Just a pleasant outing in the Phoenix sun. The wind kicked up a bit of challenge since I hit my irons very high, but the course itself was pretty forgiving and the greens receptive.
The greens though were not in very good shape. Pock marked terribly, and bumpy near the hole. I had an eagle putt tracking to the hole when it hit a HUGE crater and bounced straight up. Don't know how I missed fixing THAT ball mark, but a bit of a downer both for condition of course and of my attention span lol. I'll play it again.
Clubhouse was good, lots of attractive merch. Got a head cover with a cool native design and comfortable, great looking shirt.

Careful on the Greens at Gold

Second time I've played this track, and let me tell you I thought I had learned something the first time around...but I still struggled on the hard, crowned, unfriendly greens!
Its the only thing that is unfriendly about this place, though. Great people, pace of play was excellent, all the amenities were great [although one of my $40 cigars!!! unravelled].
If you play, bring your A game and a bag full of patience, the greens don't hold anything but a spinny, high iron or a pitch and run. The rest of the MacKenzie track was a great test of target golf, and playing from the white tees, the length was manageable for an old boy like me. If you like a challenge, this will fit the bill!
If you like a little less challenge, the Blue and Red courses are also excellent, and super maintained, and you get all of the same great friendly service. 2nd to none!

Okay for the money

Grass was thin in many areas, making for very tight lies even next to the green, and add to that the hard clay subsoil, it made pitching around the greens almost stupid. By the 18th hole I was ready to break a branch off a tree and use that instead of an iron since my clubs were getting battered.
