Pinecrest Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2018I just don't like this golf course
Positives: The holes are interesting and the greens were in good condition.
Negatives: Fairways have no grass. It hasn't rained in weeks and every ball hit in the fairway was covered with mud. Cart paths are in bad condition and you spend a lot of time driving between holes so it's hard to play in less than 4-1/2 hours. Many holes have houses too close and dense brush too close that turns moderately bad shots into penalties.
Oyster Reef Golf Course
Played On 12/12/2016A Really Good Course If You Can Get a Reasonable Price
My only beef with this course over the last few years that I've been playing it is that they are usually overpriced. This time I got one of Golf Now's "Hot Deals" and that made it competitive with its competition. I would have rated conditions excellent except the bunkers, though well groomed, probably need more sand to make up for the effects of the hurricane. Otherwise conditions were great.
The layout is one of the best in the area and if you can get on at a reasonable price you should play it.
Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 10/12/2015Recently opened to public play
This is the second time I played this course and it is one of my favorites in the Hilton Head area. It is a very playable Gary Player design, meaning it doesn't beat you up with forced carries and hazards on every hole. Conditions were first rate but time will tell if they remain so now that it is under new management.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 08/13/2015Good Scenery and Value
This is a very nice layout but bring a lot of balls if you are a high handicapper. Also, some of the holes in the marsh are quite scenic, but they slow down the pace of play because of no carts on the fairway and a lot of lost balls.
Pinecrest Golf Club
Played On 08/10/2015Recommended with Qualifications
This is a good course in good condition at a reasonable price, but it suffers from being part of a real estate development. There are houses everywhere and many are very close and in play. It's obvious that the course was built to sell lots first and to be a golf course second with very long rides between many holes. The course is fairly penal, so bring a few balls, but in the end I will probably go back occasionally because the layout is pretty good.
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2015Nice Looking and Playable
There are no houses surrounding the holes which is unusual in Hilton Head. This really improves the ambiance. As expected, from a Gary Player design, the course is not overly difficult, but just challenging enough. There is less water in play than most area courses. I will go back for sure.
Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run
Played On 10/17/2014Slow play ruined the day
Nice playable course - not overly penal like many modern designs. I booked a tee time 4 hours and 40iinutes before sunset and only played 16 holes. Unacceptable.
Hi "Kenneth5415836" Thanks for the great review. You definitely have to bring lots of golf balls as we have many scenic water holes. Don't worry if you run out we always have great golf ball specials available in the pro shop! Thanks for the review!
