Madison Green Country Club
Played On 04/05/2023Osprey Point Golf Club - Hawk/Raven Course
Played On 04/03/2023Great but not cheap
I guess you pay for what you get. This course was really nice with awesome practice facilities. It was in great condition and was a lot of fun. I do think at $98 it was a little high.
Beekman Country Club - Highland/Valley
Played On 06/19/2018River Run Golf Course
Played On 08/29/2014Nice 0cean City warmup
Course was well conditioned with a few interesting holes. Nice par 3 over water and short par 4 over a marsh were my favorites. Course was empty the day I played and that allowed some practice shots. Not as scenic and the facility is not as nice as some of the more famous courses in the area but if you get a deal, go for it. Don't pay much over $40.
The Links At Lighthouse Sound
Played On 08/25/2014Wow
This top notch all the way. The layout, condition, warmup facility and scenic views are some of the best around. A must play. Choose the right tees as it is very windy but also somewhat on the short side from the whites and blues.
Ocean City Golf Club - Newport Bay
Played On 08/08/2014Average at best
The course is called Seaside but it doesn't really offer much of a seaside feel or view. The course is tree lined most of the way but is wide enough for driver. If this is a vacation trip to Ocean City there are many courses that are better. If you are a local or a twosome out for a relaxing 18 go for it but pay attention to the price. It is worth paying almost double for the top course. If you can find for under $40 go for it but it will not be that memorable of a day. I have played over 100 courses and keep ratings at home. This was not one of the best nor was it one of the worst. I enjoyed River Run more and it is about the same price.
West Point Golf Course
Played On 08/05/2014Great views
One of the most scenic courses you could play. Well positioned trouble makes you think on most shots. Sometimes floods on hole 8. Great par 4's while par 3's could be more exciting. Facility is a bit of no frills but it is the army so what do you expect. Often here artillery practice in the background. Condition is average but it is the layout and the views that will bring you back. Long cart ride from 9 to 10 so I suggest not walking. Bring a camera and prepare to loose a ball or two. Best course in Orange County but not a resort feel at all.
Bayside Resort Golf Club
Played On 07/27/2014Too hard for fun
I know you can always move up a set of tees but at 6400 yards I felt like I was where I was supposed to be but the course rating was140. That is the highest I have seen at that length. Don't get me wrong, everything at Bayside is top notch. It deserves all of its awards and high rankings of Top 100 Public Courses. From its pro shop, to its practice facility, layout and condition it is beautiful. There just seemed to be so much trouble everywhere. The greens were so well protected as where the approach shots. I just seemed to be taking such long routes to the greens to avoid the trouble which often was placed in the fairway. Must play again to see if it was as hard as I believe. If you can' carry the ball a long way in the air stay home.
Twisted Dune Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2012SOULD BE TWISTED DUNES
The dunes are so numerous you are sure you are on a different planet. One par 3 is nothing but dunes and bunkers and s one of the most intmadating tee shots you could have. Nice practice facility and many fun holes.
Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course
Played On 10/9/2012Too slow
You must play it once as it is the oldest public course in America but the slowness of the round and the uselessness of the rangers may prevent a second trip. Layout is strange as the course is divided into different areas that require long cart rides. No flow. A few holes do require some thought but other then that, it lacks character.
Putnam County Golf Course
Played On 9/3/2012Poor Conditioned
Overpriced for wha you get. Strange layout tha lacks creatvity but it is the poor condition of the fairways and rough tha leaves you wanting more. Take the extra 20 minte ride north to Beekman or The Links @ Unionvale. Everytme I have been hear, three or more fairways are awful. One of the worst ptting greens and warmup facilities for a daily fee course.
Woodbridge Country Club
Played On 9/1/2012Only if you live in the area.
Woodbridge has a great laout but its conditioning leaves a lot to be desired. It was also very crowded and slow. Seems to be a local club that included a pool and tennis court but all seems a bit rundown. Greens were tough and some holes challenged with their length and elevation changes. Would play again if I was a local but not worth the hour drive.
Sterling Farms Golf Course
Played On 8/29/2012Great Local Course
For a muni, this is a great place. Better then any course in nearby Westchester,NY. Layout was awesome with many different types of holes that had you using each club in your bag. Par 3's tended to be long and challenging. Par 4's were not just grip and rip drivers. You had many doglegs requiring some thought. Water in play on may holes of the front side. Great view of the Long Island Sound on the 10th Green. Bring a camera!
Yes stop and take a picture of the LI Sound...that oughta speed things up.
Raven's Claw Golf Club
Played On 8/22/2012WHAT IS HAT SMOKE?
Wanting a road trip for NY and did some research and came up with the highy rated Raven's Clay. A 2 1/2 hor drive later I notice I am playing golf right next to a nuclear power plant. While this was different it added to the trip but as for the course? Very interestong layout with a combinaton of long and short holes that made you think.Great use of the landscape requiring you to go over water and up and down hlls. Greens were fast and firm A good day but the locals said there were many area courses better. I am unsure of that and enloyed. I have played over 100 public courses and rank it just inside the top 1/2. God for locals but not vacation worth.
Wintonbury Hills Golf Course
Played On 8/18/2012GREAT PLACE
Coming from 2 hours away, I had great expectations and Wintonbury Hills met them. Pristine condition and when the say hills, they mean. Up and down you go but most shts came from a somewhat level lie. The GPS system in the cart was the best I have ever used. The only negative was the first 3 holes on each 9 kind of mirrored each other so you thought you were on the same hole. I have played over 100 public courses I rank this in the top 15 so if you live in the area, it is a must play. If you have a full day free, take a trip there. It is worth it. One complaint was the Par 3's lacked some creativity.
Great Gorge Golf Club - Lake/Quarry Course
Played On 8/15/2012GREAT LAYOU BUT NEEDS LOVE
Great Gorge is a 27 hole facility that offers beautiful views and a wonderful layout that includes forced carries over water, both wide and narrow fairways, long and short par 5s and par 4's but the course seems like an extra to the Crystal Springs Resort which owns Great Gorge. The staff is very young and while they are friendly they don't care. It is like a summer job. needs a better drainage sysyem and better care of greens, fairways and tee boxes. Much better courses nearby but you might get a deal that is too good to pass up. Lacks amenities including a quality putting green and driving range. Great wild life. You might see a fox or a bear. Bring a camera!
Beekman Country Club - Highland/Valley
Played On 8/8/2012QUALITY
Beekman is a 27 hole facility that does every aspect of golf well. It does lack some of the quality of the 5 star courses but it is solid in every way. Great deals and always ask about the $3 lunch special. Greens roll true but are a bit slow. Many holes tend to be on the shorter side but their are plenty of challenges like the 6th hole on the Taconic Course which is a par 5 that requires a good drive, a layup and then a 140 yard forced carry over a pond just to set up a two putt par. The 3rd hole on the Highlands course has one of the most spectacular views of the entire Hudson Valley once you get to the green. Play here in the fall for great views of the folliage. They have changed the layout on the valley course and the new par 3 doesn't seem to fit in. Mabe it just needs to mature. Westchester residents should skip their 5 1/2 rounds on their public courses and get in the car and come here everytime!
The Lynx at River Bend Golf Club
Played On 8/7/2012So poor
The course is in aweful shape and a layout that has you guessing where the next hole is. Nothing redeeming here. One of the 10 worst I have ever played.
Cascades Golf Course
Played On 8/6/2012GREAT DEALS
A very nice 9 hole course were the only negative is it needs a bit of conditioning. It is a relatively new course so maybe it just needs to maure. Unlike some of the other Crystal Springs courses this is a no pressure, fun round that never seems to be overcrowded. The downhill par 4 #1 and he reachable in two par 5 9th are my favorites. Wait for deals. I played 18 holes for $9.
Sprain Lake Golf Course
Played On 8/6/2012Love the layout
So many unique holes with with forced carries over water coming in to play on 5 or 6 holes. Also many tough greens including a three tiered green. Make sure your approach is accurate. Short course with no par5's on the front and t least one of the par5's is reachable in two. Too slow and used to gave a big geese problem but they have solved it.be careful as trouble is often near with tree lined fairways. Worth it if you can find a deal but go elsewhere is it is over $40
Just a suggestion.....been playing golf a long time and still have 8 hdcp. 6400 yards is way too long for a 15-19 hdcp.....suggest between 6000- 6200 max and you'll enjoy the game a lot more.
