Spectacular

The other reviews are spot on, this is a must-play for any avid golfer and especially fellow Stranz fans. Slopes/Ratings are accurate: play the right tees for your index! Hitting fairways is not the challenge here, but hitting greens (or just getting near them) in regulation is another story - and then you have to putt. Every hole is an absolute masterpiece; I felt like it was Tobacco Road meets Erin Hills (with nods to Bethpage Black as well, albeit with much more reasonable yardages). And yes, bring an app or interactive GPS. Great staff and clubhouse and practice facilities: spend some time on putting green! Enjoy the experience and your successes - and don’t sweat your overall score.

So Much Potential

I played Springwood ~10 years ago and loved it, but rarely pass through the area anymore and have opted for Royal Manchester instead in the past (because of weak reviews for Springwood). Yesterday I played both: Royal Manchester (all 18; awesome) followed by the front nine at Springwood (twilight - with a league on back nine).
This is a BEAUTIFUL layout and setting, worth trying. The great mix of holes with various elevation changes, doglegs, risk/reward, and so forth is excellent.
The value was decent - for nine twilight holes. I actually played the "front 11" because they have new 5th and 6th holes, which are actually pretty great BUT a LONG (bumpy) drive out into the boonies. This was awkward/weird - BUT could be okay if they pave the paths. I saw tee markers on the old 8th & 9th (soon to be developed I understand) and there were still holes cut on the greens (albeit with no pins) so I played them for fun before hitting the road, since the back nine wasn't an option.
The tee boxes, fairways & rough were all fine.
The greens were fair to good overall, although at least one (old #7, now #9) had the back half torn up presumably for fresh repairs very soon (I hope).
The bunkers, everywhere, looked atrocious. Maybe this is temporary or was a result of heavy & persistent rain over the last week, but that wasn't the case at Royal Manchester so I don't think so.
Bottom line: Springwood has a tremendous amount of potential to be something truly special with just a little more attention (investment) to the cart paths, greens, and bunkers. I hope to try again down the road - for all 18 (or 20).

Exceptional layout, conditions and value.
(Appreciated the military discount.)
Very friendly service in pro shop & restaurant.
Superb practice facilities.
Tested my game - but fairly.
Must-Play in York area; worth the drive from DC area.

Walked

Challenging - but (mostly) fair

Great layout; nice mix of holes (elevation changes, doglegs, narrow/open, long/short).
Front nine requires length more than accuracy; back nine requires accuracy more than length.
Course was in great condition after a week of persistent rain; including tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and greens.
Greens were FAST - and many pins were set back &/or on slopes.
Overall a wonderful experience - and I was able to shoot a good number thanks to some great putts.

Terrific Golf Course

I used to live/work in Philly (2004-2007) and always enjoyed playing here. I was in PA for the weekend, and managed to get out at four old favorites: Wyncote, Iron Valley, Glen Mills, and Turtle Creek. I am glad that I started with Wyncote, as it is still a terrific golf course, very scenic, fairly priced, in great condition, with solid routing. Weather was good, as was pace of play. Highly recommended for anyone in Baltimore-Harrisburg-Philadelphia triangle.

Aerated Greens, Slow Play

I love this course, but slow play is a problem on weekend afternoons. Greens had been aerated recently, and while filled with sand, were still quite bumpy (& slow). Finally, for the fees they charge, range balls should really be included. We will return, but not for a while.
