Tierra Rejada Golf Club
Played On 02/29/2016Pace of play is king!
Great day. Sunny in the high 60's. Wind not a factor. The greens are in pretty good shape and the fairways, were decent. There were two of us and we finished our round in just over four hours.
Foster Golf Links
Played On 03/08/2015Sunday
I have played here before and will again. When I checked in, the guy who took my money said, in the same breath, pace of play is 4.5 hours and they are 25 minutes behind schedule. So, I new from the start, pace of play would not be fast. after 5.25 hours and still with three holes to go, I gave up and left.
Riverbend Golf Complex
Played On 07/06/201488º and no water
Course was in good shape and all foursomes ahead of us moved along pretty well... a surprise for this course. We played it because it is relatively easy and works well for my wife.
My only complaint is that it was hot and the water fountain on the backside was not working and there was no water, to drink, anywhere on the course (staff should, at least, let people know that so we can bring an extra bottle of water).
Druids Glen
Played On 06/29/2014A day well spent
Course is in pretty good shape. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves. A small thing... no cart lady on the course (the course was full and there was no time to purchase drinks at the turn), no water and not even a water fountain in the clubhouse.
Flamingos Club de Golf
Played On 03/25/2014Return, you bet!
The course is in good shape and has subtle challenges from tee, fairway and green. Designers used the terrain well and the challenges are subtle. The greens are consistent, undulating and pin placements tough. Staff are friendly and easy going. What more can you say... a pleasant day of golf.
El Tigre Club de Golf
Played On 03/23/2014Experience isn't just about the course
I played El Tigre twice during a recent vacation. I won't likely be back. The course is in good shape. Main hazards and difficulty are due to water, otherwise it is a relatively easy wide forgiving course.
I was a surprised by the staff and their attitudes. Last time I was here, they were welcoming and friendly (I speak Spanish, so it is not about language). This year, both times, the experience was, at best, indifference. From the pro shop, starters, caddies hanging around to the greens keepers, who neither stopped what they were doing, nor moved out of my way on two holes). The staff, just didn't seem to care.
To get my business, a course needs to be challenging and then the experience, created by the staff, needs to be warm, friendly and helpful. The course is good if you don't pay full fare and yet, I will tend toward Los Flamingoes and Marina Vallarta where the whole experience can be had.
El Tigre Club de Golf
Played On 03/21/2014Beautiful Day
Golf Now deal made this a good bargain. The course is challenging with lots of water. It also has a number of forgiving holes (wide fairways and rough). Well maintained course and I will be back tomorrow.
Lost Canyons Golf Club - Sky Course
Played On 02/24/2014Not what I was led to believe
I started coming to LA about two years ago. I come in to town about three times a year. So far, I have found two courses to which I will return: Angeles National and Sterling Hills. The other five or six courses I have played were complete wastes of time. I am a mid to low nineties golfer of four years and heading toward the eighties. I guess I am spoiled by green grass and iinteresting challenging courses.
I chose Lost Canyons Sky because of the reviews (I had played the Shadows course last year and swore to avoid Lost Canyon forever).
I began to wonder, even on a Monday morning, why I was all alone on this course. While the round was quick, the condition of the fairways made the round a joke. It reminded me of an old vaudeville joke: Two people lunching. One says to the other, "The food hear has gone down hill." The other says, "Yes, and such small portions".
That is how I felt about playing Lost Canyon Sky. I was practically alone on the course. I finished 18 holes in 3 hours and was glad to be done. The greens are well tended and the fairways are terrible. Dust flew with almost every swing (at least this is an improvement over the Shadows course which is more like concrete).
If this is what Los Angelenos think a golf course is supposed to be like, then I feel sad for them.
California Country Club
Played On 11/08/2013A first!
Started to come to Los Angeles 2-4 times a year and try and play a round when I come. I have played four courses and would not return to any of the courses I have played. This is the first time I have played, what I would call, a decent course in LA.
I generally shoot in the low 90's and am not a long ball hitter. CCC was fun, well maintained and pretty. It is not a challenging course. I shot an 83. CCC greens are pretty flat, even the rough is pretty easy to deal with and there are not many risk reward situations. At $69, it was OK. It would be a high value at $50-55.
Early morning Friday tee time and there were not many people on the course. I will play there again, at some point.
Lost Canyons Golf Club - Shadow Course
Played On 8/1/2013Stay away from Lost Canyon! Horrible at any price!
Visiting and thought I would get in a round of golf. When I showed up, the pro-shop told me they were no longer watering the course, except greens and this is why I got a Golf Now deal. He joked about experiencing the British Open. If you enjoy playing on a cement cow pasture, this is the course for you!
In addition to the terrible course conditions, the cart we were given had probably not been serviced since it was purchased, almost no brakes. It was no joke to be scared silly any time we went down a hill. Would have returned the cart, except we noticed that all the other carts were having the same issues (could hear cart brakes sceaching all over the course). No brakes on a hilly course.
I have only one question, the course was full, so do I conclude that golfers in Los Angeles area think this is golf? This is the only bad golf experience I have had and I sure would not want to repeat it. Makes me think much less about Golf Now!
Championship at Hillcrest Golf Club
Played On 10/28/2012Fun course with some risk reward aspects
Sunny day, strong winds... Hillcrest was a fun afternoon. The staff were super friendly. Greeted me effusively and warmly. The course is well maintained, although the greens were a bit dug up.
With relatively wide forgiving fairways, players in front of us kept up a good pace, rather than searching for lost balls.
I would definitely choose this course again on my return to the area.
Palm Beach National Golf Course
Played On 10/27/2012Sometimes you get what you pay for
In the area for a family visit and brought my clubs. Chose Palm Beach National because it was close to where I stayed, the price was very inexpensive and I could get the tee time I wanted.
Staff was friendly on my arrival. Pace of play was somewhat slow (we were waiting for the foursome in front of us and occasionally for the foursome in front of them, as well. Never saw a course marshal in over four hours. Course could use some attention, especially on the greens.
What I did not enjoy was having my cart's battery begin to die on the 14th hole and having to push it the last two holes (I suppose that the silver lining is that the course is flat and boring... so the cart did complete the round).
When I got back to the pro-shop and told them about this lapse, all I got was a "sorry". They won't see me there again and I have told my relatives who suggested the place to never suggest a course to me again.
Hi David2247526,
Thank you for playing at Tierra Rejada Golf Club, and thank you for the 5 star rating. We are happy to hear that you had great weather for your round, good course conditions, and pace of play was favorable. We hope you will be back to see us for another round soon!
Best Wishes,
