Douglaston Golf Club
Played On 06/11/2019Ok experience...
1st time playing here. Thought I would get out for a quick 9 holes after work. Disappointed to find there was no 9-hole rate. Was told the course was empty and should be able to zip around. Started first hole as a single, then joined twosome on 2nd hole. Needed to wait on every hole - both on the tee and in fairway. Took almost 2.5 hours for 9 holes on a Tuesday teeing off at 4pm.
Course was in decent shape. Greens only ok - lots of ball marks.
Ok track. Will likely come back.
Marine Park Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2019First time at Marine Park
Have lived in NYC for 4 years, but this is my first experience at Marine Park. I was impressed with practice facilities, although was disappointed to find that you cannot use woods on the range.
I read multiple course reviews discussing pace of play, unfortunately they held true. I had a morning tee time - finally able to tee off about 20-mins past tee time. Needed to wait on every hole at the tee, as well as for approach shots. There were times where there were up to 3 groups on the tee. Round took over 5.5 hours.
The course was in great shape. Did enjoy the course layout overall.
Was not impressed with the pro shop or pro shop staff. Staff was not very welcoming when I got to course, nor were they welcoming in the afternoon after the round when browsing and listening to them tend to other customers.
Overall, this is a course I will likely return to. It has good practice facilities and a good layout. Will just need to be prepared for long, slow moving round.
Kebo Valley Club
Played On 07/27/2017Historic & scenic, but PRICEY
Was in Bar Harbor for the week & decided to play a round while wife was at the spa. The course was convenient to Bar Harbor. The course has some neat history and great views. The layout was decent. The greens were well maintained and quite fast, you definitely want to be below the hole. Greens fees were quite pricey - for the price I expect a lot more. I've played courses of similar quality for a fraction of the price. I've also played other courses for this price that had a much better track to play. All in all, it was a nice round, but I don't know that I would play it again, unless greens fees decreased.
Rooms in bar harbor $300, dinner for 2 $200, spa probably $500, but $150 golf is expensive?
Funny that someone from NY complaining about price. Usually horrible golfers complain about Kebo because it's not flat and they can't break 100.
