Pebble Creek Golf Course
Played On 07/02/2017shot maker's course
This is a challenging course for the average golfer- needs positioning rather than distance. Except for two holes, the driver is not necessary, though it did not stop me from racking up the strokes!
And the signature island par 3 is imposing as there is no bail out area- bring plenty of balls.
Fairways of Woodside Golf Course
Played On 09/07/2014great couse but expensive unless you play on discount
First time playing and paired up with a couple who play this frequently so made it enjoyable. As the starter said, front 9 'easy' but back 9 tough. All holes have some challenge, and the greens are undulating but roll well.
interesting par 5 'Z' where you are always going to play 3 to get to the green as it is geometrically difficult (unless you are Bubba) to ever think of hitting it in on in 2! Water and out of bounds in play on several holes. Needs finesse than distance.
Worst part was their bunkers- sand was all packed and not fluffy- and that was in the absence of any significant rain!
Bristol Oaks Golf Club and Banquet Center
Played On 08/24/2014OK for a local course
We drove from Milwaukee, especially as it was a Golfnow deal. Not sure I would pay full price to play it again. Pace of play was slow and no marshall to encourage the left-right people to speed up or let people through. The beer was good at the end of this.
Paganica Golf Course
Played On 07/27/2014Excellent Value
This course had the rough mowed, so errant shots were not punished as much. The greens were in good shape, though some of the tee boxes needed a little attention and there is no hard cart-path, so the ride was a little bumpy.
The staff are very friendly and played on a 'hot deal' and definitely a good value for the money.
Would not be a course for the advanced golfer, but great for a high handicapper like myself.
Oaks at Edgewood Golf Course
Played On 07/20/2014Challenging course
The Oaks starts out somewhat easy, but you soon realize that accuracy is absolutely needed on many of the holes. On some there is no bail-out and expect to loose your wayward golf ball. The greens are undulating and judging speed/lag putts are a necessity or you end up loosing a few more shots.
A cart is mandatory, no walkers allowed for the 18 hole Oaks (you can walk the Pines) as the back nine is over the main road. Not sure if walking the front 9 of Oaks is allowed.
Pines at Edgewood Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2014The Pines
This is my second time at Edgewood and I was single and paired up with a 3-some on the Pines. The pace of play was slow as this was a vacation weekend and we had many fathers and sons on their outing, but it was not too slow (~ 4.5h). The course in most of the places is good shape except for two holes that have a lot more poorly drained areas and one of the tee boxes for the blues was tucked back in a wooded area, surrounded by standing water and was a holiday home for mosquitoes. Very enjoyable and recommended
Island at Silver Spring Country Club
Played On 6/30/2013Enjoyable, challenging long par 4s, and scenic
I've played this course many times. It is picturesque, water comes into play only on a number of holes.
despite the water, very few mosquitos.
And yes, the Island hole par 3 is a little gem.
biggest drag was pace of play. Despite a 3pm tee-off, it was still slow. Thankfully it is bright at 8pm!
At the regular green fees over-priced, but definitely worth playing if you get discounted rates.
The Falls at Silver Spring Country Club
Played On 6/10/2013good, but I do not rave about it
Played the Falls course and it is in good shape though one or two of the greens had a few areas that needed a little attention.
Having played this before the new management took it over, one can see the prices have gone up, the GPS on the carts removed, so finances seem to be a little more of an issue.
definitely worth playing if you get a discount.
Also, beware local road work on Silver Spring road (totally unpassable and 100% blocked off), so have to take Town Line to get to the course (only one way in and out-so check maps before leaving home!)
Kettle Moraine Golf Club
Played On 5/18/2013Great local course, does not need power, but placement
The course has a lot of dog legs, thus does not need distance as much as placement. The greens run true, well maintained. Many holes may accumulate standing water or mud,so beware after any heavy rains or series of wet weather.
saw a pair of whooping cranes with a couple of chicks, which made it even more appealing. Played at a discount, and is worth ~$36 with cart but not the advertised price of $56
Moor Downs Golf Course
Played On 5/12/20139-Hole course
For a local gem and a quick 9-holes, it is worth a trip. The rough is punishing (early May) as it was lush and meant an extra stroke. The greens are in good shape (not the best shape) but I can imagine that with the summer, these will also be much more tricky as the speed should pick up. Long hitters have no advantage (except the last hole) as most holes need placement of the drive.
After heavy rains, there are areas that have standing water (there were two ducks in one of the bunkers at the first hole!
Disney's Palm Golf Course
Played On 4/30/2013great course, despite the recent rain, plyed well and was challengeing
great course, despite the recent rain, played well and was challenging.
Pace of play was good.
I rented the clubs but these were in god shape.
