About
I'm an avid golfer that has been around the game for 40+ years. I started young and haven't stopped. I was scratch at one time in my life and would like to be there again, but work interferes with golf time so until I retire, it's just golf when I can. When I win the lottery I'll quit my job and play competitively again.

Championship at Colony West Country Club
Played On 07/16/2020Aeration alert!
Booked a tee time and once at the course found that aeration had been done within a week. This made greens quite bumpy with it being they are in recovery process. Also the tees were almost grassless and on several of the front nine teas I was hitting from dirt tee boxes. It made for a let down which truly affected my game. Going in I was excited as I have been playing more lately and hitting the ball a bit better and really starting to lower my scores. This round just took all that away with the negativity of the course conditions. Staff was friendly but the person in the pro shop not the cart staff/ starter did not mention the aeration until I brought it up after quitting after the front nine. I was pretty upset that it wasn’t listed on GOLFNOW, probably not the fault of GOLFNOW. I passed on a tee time at another course that listed an “Aeration Alert” on GOLFNOW, and would not have booked this tee time either had I known. Oh well. This is why I just quit after 9. I’d prefer to keep my positivity going into next round rather than score bad because of playing a course with poor conditions. I probably won’t go back for some time. This is the Championship course and should be better taken care of. It’s a really fun layout and has been in much better shape in the past. Now it’s almost like playing in dead spots in my back yard! I didn’t take photos because I wasn’t sure I’d write a review and don’t want to bash them more than I am already. Don’t go for a while, let it recoup from the aeration. The fairways and tees won’t be around for some time if at all. You’re better off playing elsewhere to be honest. Oriole, Flamingo Lakes, Woodmont are all Local alternatives.
Glades at Colony West Country Club
Played On 03/03/2020A nice surprise!
I booked on the Glades course and actually was sent to play the Championship course because the Glades was so full. It was either that or the starter made an error, but whatever the reason it was appreciated. I booked as a single and was paired up with another single to make a twosome. The courses were very crowded as it was a super day for golf weather wise. Sun was out with a light breeze, and the course was in pretty good shape. Greens were a little firm but true and a bit speedy. Fairways and tees in ok condition with a few bare spots. The round ended up being right at 4 hours after we played through two groups. Unseasonably warmer than normal for early March. It was a good round and a better value. Thanks for the surprise today.. I will be back because it’s always a fun day out at Colony West, no matter which course you play. Construction of the new clubhouse and hotel still going on but the courses remain open. Staff was super friendly as usual. Thanks again.
Flamingo Lakes Country Club
Played On 02/25/2020Great value!
Booked this tee time and it was my first time playing this course. My expectations were not so high but found by the end of the round that this is a great course. Lots of water coming into play if you stray the tee ball. I was set up as a single with 3 others, one who happened to be late and had to be driven out to us on the 6th tee. David was an older gentleman that hit the ball well, and he knew the course so that was a huge help. Tommy was closer to my age and he and I played from the back tees as did our fourth after he caught us on 6. The course was in very good condition, with the tees being some of the best I’ve seen in the area this year. The greens were firm but rolled very true and a bit fast. The fairways were full of grass almost fully from tee to green. The rough was a bit “rough” but there was grass there and only a few bare spots. There were good markers on the course for 200, 150, 100 yards and all water and OB hazards. Pace was ok being behind a foursome and we did 18 in right at 4 hours. Could have been quicker had we not waited a few times on the group in front of us. The staff was friendly and pleasant. There was a restaurant that was open for breakfast and I’m sure opened throughout the day. They have an app that offered for free so I used that for my scoring and for the GPS which was quite accurate. Thanks for an enjoyable round even though I didn’t play my best. The company was pleasant and the day was fun. GolfNow comes through again. I would be glad to play here again and wish this course were closer to my home. (45 minutes away and 28 miles)
Glades at Colony West Country Club
Played On 02/18/2020Still a little wet out there
It was still a little wet out there in some areas from recent rains. Seems the course would rope some areas off to keep carts from destroying those spots but they didn’t. Course overall I’m pretty good shape except a couple tee boxes were a bit bare and some work being done on a few greens with dead spots. Played pretty good so I can’t complain. Staff always is accommodating and helpful. Pace was good at 3.25 hours on a par 64 course.
Royal/Sabal at Grand Palms Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/11/2020Good Course and Value
First time playing this course and had read mixed reviews about so I was a bit hesitant about booking. The price was just too hard to turn down and even though it’s 30 minutes away from my home it was worth the drive. The course layout was extremely fun. It has its challenges with water, and it travels through several neighborhoods throughout the round. The tees were good and being seen addressed in the few bad spots during our round. The fairways only had a few bare spots here and there, and the greens were in very good shape and rolled pretty true. The staff was friendly and although my tee time was at 11:57 they got me out as a single well before that. Pace was very quick at 3 hours and 35 minutes as a twosome playing behind a pair of mixed couples. Played the Royal and then Sabal 9s and played pretty good as my first time on this course. Long par 5s at around 500 or so yards and some tough par 4s. Lakes come into play more on the Royal than Sabal but you need to hit shots to stay in play and score. Greens held well, rolled true and I will play there again just to try to better my score of 83. Thanks GolfNow for my HOTDEAL tee time today!
Championship at Colony West Country Club
Played On 07/16/2020Aeration recently?
With no notification of aeration recently I booked a tee time on Golf now and hopes for a good round. Well I hit the ball good but the course conditions were almost horrendous. Little to zero grass on tee boxes and they had recently aerated the greens so there wasn’t a smooth spot on them anywhere! I was playing the championship course and it’s far from being at championship level. I’ve got better grass in my yard than in these fairways. Sad that such a good track has had to go downhill so much. I understand you need to aerate but at least let it be known through all booking outlets that this has happened. I would not have booked if I had known this was the case. I started to take photos but didn’t want to embarrass the course any further! Not again unless I hear it’s been through big changes!

Championship at Colony West Country Club
Played On 08/19/2019Great Value
A great value for the money. Course was in extremely good condition considering the recent rains. The only reason that I couldn’t give better ratings was because the ongoing construction and the lack of amenities in the pro shop. Friendly staff was very informative and helpful. Will return for sure!
Great Rock Golf Club
Played On 06/05/2018Fun Round on Grest Layout
This course is a fun course to play with undulations , bunkers, doglegs left and right, and just enough length to challenge you with many of the club's in your bag. The greens were smooth, but just a bit inconsistent being slower on the front nine than on the back. We played at a very good pace as a twosome finishing in just slightly over 3 and a quarter hours. The par 3s are challenging as is the rest of the layout. The gentleman in the pro shop was the starter also. He and the cart attendant were both very friendly. We Had fun today and will be back, hopefully very soon.
Rolling Oaks Golf Course
Played On 05/01/20181st time playing here and the gentleman in the pro shop gave me a tip, " keep it in the fairway" he said. The course was fun and exciting as well as challenging. It's an Executive course with mostly par 3s so you can work your iron game here. The greens were really in good shape with only a few aeration holes left but ran very true. The par 4s on this course are tough because you want to pull a driver out but really there's no need to. The fairways are tree 'llned with very mature oaks that are very tall so if you get out of the fairway it's tough getting back into it or hitting the green from out of the fairway. There are 2 par 5s, which are like long par 4s on most regular courses. The course is winding and has a good bit of slope to keep you from having it too easy. It's a challenging track that's in very good shape. I will be back since now I have a better idea how to play it. It was a fun round of ghost old and pace was great at just about 4 hours, including time looking for lost balls and what not. Par is like 63, and I had a 77, so I'm not complaining since I never saw the layout before and it was my 1st round of 2018. Great, friendly staff that made me feel welcomed. Cart paths are a bit rough but mostly we stayed in the fairways so it wasn't much an issue. They could use paving though rather than just filling holes with rocks. Yes, I'll still go back again. The GolfNow price was also a deciding factor in my playing here. Thanks!
Palms at Pompano Beach Golf Course
Played On 12/26/2016Public Municipal Course at Best
I had heard good things about this course but then I made a tee time and was unpleasantly surprised. I was scheduled in a foursome yet the starter tried to send me off on the Pines Course with a twosome and my reservation was on the Palms. I was early so I went to the bar outside to order a bite. I asked about how long for a sandwich, and the reply was about 10 minutes or so. I figured great, I have about 50 minutes until I tee off. My sandwich came in almost 25 minutes later. I was drinking unsweetened ice tea, which I didn't get offered any sweetener. I had to reach behind the bar to get it myself, but all the different sweeteners were all clumpy in the packets. I played the Palms in a 3-some at scheduled tee time after lunch. The course was in pretty good shape if you kept it in the fairway. There were several blind shots with only a scorecard diagram and a diagram at the tee to show the layout of the hole. There were spotty yardage markers on some sprinkler heads, with 200, 150, and 100 markers on the fairways. The greens were pretty small, and didn't hold real well. They were fairly true but not like what I've been playing on lately. There was a cart for beverages on the course which was a plus as there was no water coolers on the course. It was almost 4 hours and 45 minutes to play and we were behind a 4 some, and added another to become 4 ourselves at the turn. I liked the layout, and signage said Greg Norman but here it says Bruce Devlin. I will probably not go back as this municipal course loads up with anyone that wants to play. For the same money I can play some nicer courses in a bit better shape and get a bit better service and be catered to a bit more. Just my preference I guess. I'd rather see grass in the rough if I miss the fairway and have the grass just a little longer in the fairway so I'm not on a tight lie trying to hit a 3 wood. I like bigger greens that are receptive and the ball will stop on. I would rather not to play bump and run from around the green. The traps should have sand, not be hard pan. My opinion. Play here if you want. But I probably won't be back. The bar area is good for a maybe at Happy Hour when not golfing if they have some live music.
Southwinds Golf Course
Played On 11/21/2016Odd Layout with Lots of Layups
Course was in very good shape. Tight lies in the grass covered fairways so the ball doesn't sit up well. But it's in really good shape. My issue was having to hit lots of lay up shots to stop from finding blind water hazards or to not go off course. Some parts 4s were 3 shot holes due to this only leaving 1 putt for a par. You have to be able to bend the ball a lot. Dogleg in both directions. No rakes at the bunkers either. Staff was super courteous both inside and out. The round had some places we waited on every shot, and no Ranger on the course. I'd probably go back just to play it again now that I've seen the course once, but I also drove 40 minutes to get there so my mind may change. Municipal golf. What else can I say. The price was right and it always beats a day at work.
Thank you for your review of Southwinds. We are happy to hear that you found the course to be in good condition and, most importantly, that you found our staff to be so accommodating. With water on 16 of our 18 holes, play can definitely be challenging and requires good shot placement, but we are certain you will find this adds to the enjoyment of the course when you return. As far as the rakes, each of our golf carts comes equipped with a rake on the back, so you don't have to seek one out at the sand traps.
We hope you will come visit us again soon.
Boca Greens Country Club
Played On 11/04/2016Good course and great value
Looking for an afternoon tee time at a course I've never played before I found this gem on golf now. It was about 25 minutes from home which was not bad . After arriving, the check in process was very fast and the pro shop staff was friendly. The starter/ cart attendant set me on my cart and told me a twosome was just on the 1st tee and it would be faster to join up with them. They had already teed off when I arrived at #1 so I played the first hole solo. While driving up to the 1st green, the gentleman of the couple in front asked me to join them. He and his wife were very friendly. So I was playing the Blue tees and Paul, the fella was playing the whites, his wife Jen was of course playing the reds. They were French Canadian down on vacation staying not far away but they knew the course pretty well and we're quite an enjoyment to play with. Definitely not duffers and very much full of golf etiquette. The course was in very good shape, I think bermuda fairways and rough. Probably bermuda greens that were a bit fast and true. The sand traps were in good shape and over all I'd say the v ourselves was in very good shape. It had a nice layout with some water here and there and you need to control the ball somewhat to set your next shot up. Distance markers on the sprinklers in the fairway and blue, white, and red markers also for 200,150, and 100 yards respectively. The course was I think about 6600 yards from blues and slope about 130 or so? It was a fun round and pace was right under 4 hours on a course that had play on it. There was a very polite lady in the snack bar. It is a Country Club atmosphere with some public play. Course is in good enough shape to host a Tournament so made things better. The value was very good. I'd go back and play again to beat my 1st time score of 83 which is true to my 11 handicap. Once you play a course, you have some mental notes for future rounds. Par 3's hurt my score with double bogeys on 2 of them. The part 5's are all 500 yards or more. Go play this course and enjoy the challenge. It's not a beginner's course in my opinion. Have fun !
West at Woodlands Country Club
Played On 04/30/2015great value for a true country club experience
It was a great day as the course was in excellent shape. The greens rolled fast and true. The fairways were in really good shape and I played the ball down with no problems. The bunkers were a little firm but in good condition. The staff was fantastic, grabbing my clubs from the bag drop and setting me up to go right away. The starter was very friendly with help and directions. The clubhouse staff was also helpful pointing me to a fridge with water, Poweraid and beers. It was an overall great outing. I'll definitely go back. Easy to get to right off commercial blvd. In Tamarac. 2 courses to choose from makes it even easier to get in a round of golf on short notice. 4 stars from me. Only negative is the drink lady on the course was only seen at the beginning of my round and then again around hole 15, thus the 3 stars for food due to choice that time of the day. Otherwise fun was had and any day on the golf course beats a day at work!
Country Club of Coral Springs
Played On 04/20/2015not what I expected for a Country Club
I booked the tee time thinking it was a great chance to play an older course at a great price. I arrived and spoke to someone in the pro shop that informed me the course is closing in a few weeks for major rennovations. I then asked if it was bad out there and his reply was that some greens would be overhauled and reconstructed as well as the pro shop facilities. The tees and fairways were fine. The greens either have died due to poisoning or have just burnt from the heat. Brown and crispy at best. Several greens didn't even have a nice green area to put a pin setting and others had indentations where the cup had been changed but not to a standard setting so there were low spots from changing the pins. The bunkers were fairly hard in the couple I hit and there were even some pretty large iguanas on the course. I'm not one to have knowledge but I don't think I want to deal with angry 4 foot iguanas in my fairway. I thought Country Club, you know nice plush fairways and fast greens. Well the speed b of the greens was fun for Bermuda but they were crunchy. There was lots of maintaining of the course going on as I played on a Monday. I doubt I go back before renovations are completely finished which my guess will be about a year or so. Reconstruction of greens is no easy task. Been around that before at a prior employers' site where we had 2 courses of 18 holes each. Riverside and Chanticleer in Greenville, SC. Not even a good deal for the price. I would have been better off spending 10 or 15 more dollars and playing Woodmont in Tamarac.
Tallgrass Country Club
Played On 9/6/2013grear track.
Course was in good shape. Greens had been aerated two weeks prior so they had come back fairly full by now. We were behind a slow foresome that didn't have enough etiquette to allow us to play through causing our round to run almost 5 hours. I will definitely go back and play here again. Its challenging enough but stay out of the fescue! First time playing here i made 3 birdies en route to a 78 with 2 lost ball penalties. In the words of Arnold, " I'll be back".
Stonebridge Golf Links & Country Club
Played On 8/19/2013Early morning fun!
I had a 6:26 tee time and was on the course along with another twosome I was paired with right on time. It was my 1st time at Stonebridge CC and it won't be my last. The course is a links style fairly tight layout with a need for making some shots throughout the course. The fairways are great and the rough is rough. Not too long bud it makes you want to make sure you hit fairways. The greens are quite tricky, but true. You definitely want to be on the correct side of the hole and on the right level of the green. I had read this in other reviews prior to playing there. It was fun for all and I'll surely go back.
Great Rock Golf Club
Played On 7/31/2013Good deaL FOR THE $$$$
For the twilight rate of $29 after 3pm it was a good deal. The course is a hilly terrain that could use some water in the fairways as there were some bald spots here and there. The greens were very hard and the ball did not hold at all. Distances from the fairway markers were very accurate. I also used my "skydroid" app on my phone to help with distances and they were also quite accurate. (It's a free app for android users). The carts are gas so you hear that noise from time to time in your back swing, but if you are tuned in, it should not bother you. It was a good value for the money since it was after 3pm and only $29 it was the cheapest place to play locally.
Wind Watch Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/05/2013great bargain
Playing early like 7am puts you out early enough for fast play. It puts you out with the mowing crew and sprayers. Sprinklers popped on a couple times but that's expected early in the day. Greens are true, fairways cut with very few bad lies. Enjoyable course layout at a good value in today's pricing for a round of golf on Long Island.
Pine Hills Country Club
Played On 5/3/2013Great Value!
Pine Hills was in very good shape. The staff was very accommodating and it was extremely pleasant after the round going into JC's and having a drink and a fabulous burger. There was a temporary green on #5 but that didn't matter. The golf staff, restaurant / bar staff was superb. The only complaint is there was no water on the course in the water coolers. Other than that, it was a great day for golf and any day on the golf course is better than a day at work! Super value too by booking as a resident online with GolfNow. Thanks!
