Excellent

I hate to put this out there, but I’m not sure how Brickshire is able to keep their rates on the low end of the market, while maintaining the course conditions. Comparatively speaking, the tee boxes and fairways are in excellent shape. Having obviously been aerated in the last few weeks, the greens still had some sand, but they still rolled very true, and are shaping up nicely. My biggest criticism is of other golfers that don’t take the time to repair their ball marks. Very frustrating missing a putt due to a ball mark!

The only area of concern are the bunkers. Those that don’t have standing water are more hard-pan dirt and rocks than sand, with very few offering true sand trap shot opportunities.

The guy in the pro shop and the starter were great. They obviously enjoy their jobs, and are welcoming and efficient.

Even though I’m 45 minutes away, Brickshire is a course I’ll play when I can, and definitely recommend it, comparatively speaking, particularly given the value!

Always a good round

I really enjoy the character of the course, the layout, the comfortable, dependable carts, and the friendliness of the staff. I used to think the greens at Royal New Kent were the most challenging in the area, but I’m now convinced the architect that designed MG mastered the greens at RNK and knew he had to set a new standard in the undulating greens golf world! If so, he nailed it!

The placement of the snack bar at the turn between 9 & 10 is perfect, the team members staffing it are always pleasant and accommodating, and the offerings are great; although I don’t need them any more than I need a hot dog or cheeseburger, a nice little touch is keeping the Reese’s pb cups in the fridge😊

The only area of the course that I would say needs some work, and I hear that’ll soon be their focus, are the bunkers. Some are great, but many are not. As long as “rake and place” is the local rule, all is good, but that doesn’t maintain the integrity of the game.

At the end of the day, I absolutely recommend this course to anyone. While they don’t offer daily HotDeals like other courses, the “online rate” is basically the same, but the $$ goes to the course, as opposed to GN, although GN still collects a convenience fee, so it works out for all involved.

Best overall value in the area

Brickshire always delivers a great experience. Despite the drought-like conditions, and the fact other course are near-dead from lack of water, Brickshire is keeping the course alive, and enjoyable. Granted, the greens are a little slower than usual, but st least they’re thriving, as opposed to dead. Staff is great and the in-course food/beverage lady is a true gem, and enhances the experience. While it’s a 55-minute drive for me, the rates and experience make it worth it, and I’ll definitely be back!

Very pleasantly surprised!

I hadn’t played this course in 5 or more years, and I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised with everything, from the lady in the pro shop to the grounds crew, to the snack bar and the girls handling the refreshment cart. Really a class act, and the course conditions are incredible; this course definitely plays like a top-tier course. I can’t believe it took me so long to get back out here, but Providence will definitely be my go-to for the foreseeable future!

Always a pleasure

Played the round with a chap visiting from Scotland, and really enjoyed it. Course in good shape, particularly given the time of year. The clubhouse and cafe staff are always great, as is James, the starter. James is exactly the type of upbeat, personable starter a course needs, as he sets the tone for an enjoyable round. Pace of play was great. I’ll definitely be back.

What a treat!

Beautiful, challenging course that definitely saw me use every club in my bag. I average ~ 40 rounds/year, and it’s a rarity for me ro pay $80-$100/ round, so finding a great deal at this course on TeeOff was a very pleasant surprise.

A lesson in humility

I was fortunate to have found a 1:27 hot deal tee time. I had a friend in Richmond have something come up, and he was unable to keep our tee time at another course, so I thought I'd give Stonehouse a shot, as it'd been over 10 years since I'd played there (since the Alzheimer's Association stopped having their annual tournament there and Royal New Kent).

On a very positive note, the entire round felt like I had the course to myself, as I never caught up to anyone, nor did I have anyone pushing me.
This layout is absolutely brutal, and I cant imagine there is anyone; member, guest, or even pro, that shoots scratch golf on this course, from any of the tees.

Very thankful I had just upgraded my GolfPad app, but even that, along with the pro tips handout, made it extremely difficult to accurately select clubs and consider ideal shot placement. Even when I did hit a great drive, followed by an equally great approach shot, I'd 3 or 4 putt because of either, or a combo of, the size and layout or burnt conditions of the greens. To say this course beat me up, and served as an exercise in humility, is an understatement.

Unfortunately, my biggest takeaway was the unrealized potential of this course. I'm reluctant to put Stonehouse in the same category, but this course gave me flashbacks of River's Bend, during the beginning of the demise. I really hope those with the ability to turn this course around do so immediately, as it'd be a shame to see this beautifully designed course spiral out of control. It's too special.

I gave 4 stars because of the course design, the very pleasant pro (gentleman) that checked me in, the awesome cheeseburger and fries I called in before teeing off on #8, and the great personality of the young lady that boxed it up for me as I made the turn.

In short, I'd love to return in the future and increase my rating to a 5. The design of this course, combined with the resources, grounds knowledge, and TLC of the folks that manage Spring Creek and The Federal Club would put this course in the elite circle. Imho, of course...

Time of year impacted experience

I've played here several times, but never in November, and probably won't play there again during this time of year. Lost 4 balls on drives in fairway due to leaves. It was insane, starting with #1 hole! Granted, #1 was was impacted the most by the leaves, but a few others were, as well. But, the real disappointment of the day were the condition of the bunkers. They were either full of water or packed dirt. Unfortunately, I managed to find a few bunkers, and all were awful. The layout is nice, and the greens were in very good shape, aside from having to spend time removing leaves to putt. In short, I'm rating a 4 because of the time of year, but the bunkers were not acceptable, regardless of the season. To end on a positive, the guy in the pro shop was very pleasant and welcoming. Looking forward to playing an improved course next spring.

Good beginner course for youth

Course not in the greatest shape. Bunker rough terrible shape. Greens fair, but extremely wet and slow, despite minimal rain over last few days. Over watering? Young staff in clubhouse very professional and helpful. Rates steep for overall experience. Was disappointed when I was informed GolfNow rate was actually more than twilight rate. The gave me the twilight rate, but only after GolfNow collected their fee.

Hidden, affordable gem

Really great course that was challenging, yet forgiving. I was rewarded when I hit a good shot, and scrambled when I didn't. Great, albeit thick and often challenging to find a ball, grass off the fairway and fringe around green. Very enjoyable experience, especially for $30!! Very few golfers on the course was nice, but I hope the course is doing well, as I'd love to see them remain, as I'll play it often.
