ShadowGlen Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2021Wet &
It must've rained a lot more in Manor the night before I played than it did in Oak Hill. That being said, the 'front 9' (formerly known as the back) does drain much better than the new back (I hate when a golf course flips the nines, regardless of the reason).
I ran into a 5-6 some on the 11th tee. They were so disorganized and slow that I didn't bother to hit a tee shot at 12, just turned around and drove back to my truck. Disappointing visit to Shadowglen, my first in a while.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would, no hyperbole. Unforgettable experience, from bag drop to bon voyage. Easily worth $100+, paid barely half that. Quintessential northwest Florida costal golf.

ShadowGlen Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2021Best value in Austin right now
Shadowglen is simply the best public golf course facility in the Austin area right now. Worth $50 easily, a great deal when you can get it for less.
Thanks for your great review, we agree! You should check out our Player Development Program, it's truly the best value in town

Fairways are bare for the most part. Greens are deceptively slow, especially downhill putts. Love the layout for the most part, just wish they could put more resources into greens, tee boxes and fairways (in other words, everything).
Point Venture Golf Club

This is the best golf value in the greater Austin area, period
Glad you enjoyed your day! Hope to see you again soon!

Fairways and tee boxes were pretty tight/bare, but what could reasonably be expected 5 weeks after an unprecedented blizzard? Grass is still struggling to recover and grow throughout central Texas. Who knows how long it will continue to affect our golf courses?
Otherwise pleasant experience here, as always.

I hadn’t been out to play here in a couple years, but I knew from experience what to expect from this gem of a facility. The greens are what separate Point Venture from other affordable, open to the public venues in and around Austin. Despite it ‘only’ being a 9 hole course (personally I’d rather have 9 thoughtfully, well laid out holes to play than 18 indifferent ones), and an hours drive from my house, I still love making the beautiful drive out to Point Venture, knowing that I’m about to enjoy as an ‘away from it all’ peaceful and leisurely round of golf one can hope to find in the greater Austin area.
And the greens are ALWAYS challenging and fair, and occasional LIGHTNING FAST
Glad you enjoyed your day! Hope to see you again soon!

Pace of play was terrible, but what can you reasonably expect the day after Christmas? Never disappointed with the layout, set up or conditions at Shadowglen. One of my favorite Austin area tracks, and the best value in town.
ShadowGlen Golf Club
Played On 05/01/2019My favorite public track in ATX
I’ve played Shadowglen dozens of times, and I continue to come back because the conditions are consistent, the staff is affable, flexible and kind, and the value is undeniable. A tee box for every skill level, and several memorable, well designed holes (the long par threes in particular).
Dollar for dollar this is as good a deal as any public/muny track in greater ATX.
Great! We're glad that our course conditions met your expectations and that our staff left a great impression on you. We appreciate your review and we look forward to having you back again soon!
Sammons Golf Course
Played On 03/30/2019Quirky little track
The tee boxes are rough, there’s no sugarcoating that. A few of them were so hard you’d need a mallet for driving tent stakes to get a peg in the ground. There are A LOT of water hazards on this course, with some seriously challenging forced carriers made considerably more difficult when the wind blows (which it seems to do here quite often). They allow people to fish on the course which seemed a little odd the first time I played here but was no trouble either time I’ve played.
Twilight rates start at 2pm. I played 18 with a cart for less than $20 on a Saturday- that’s a tough deal to beat.
White Wing Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2018Beautiful course
Well maintained course with lots of big, mature trees. Challenging layout. Significant doglegs, elevation changes and plenty of character. Large receptive greens that putted remarkably true, especially for this time of year. Highly recommend

Course is always well maintained. Greens are always tough. Staff is always friendly, and the value is fantastic relative to the cost
Point Venture Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2018One of my faves
I discovered PVGC about a year and a half ago and it has been my go to place to play ever since. Well maintained, fun, scenic layout. Lightning fast greens almost all the time. Excellent value. A 9 hole gem on the north side of Lake Travis.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
Lighthouse Country Club
Played On 04/23/2018Never disappoints
I like everything about this golf course. Staff is affable, laid back, and extremely accommodating. Course itself is always at/near peak playability for the season. Greens can be TREACHEROUSLY fast at times, so be cautious, especially early in your round. Several memorable holes. Track has quite a bit of character, absolutely worth playing more than once.
Worth the drive from Austin in my opinion, especially when it’s at/near peak condition. Would cost twice as much if it were 20 miles from ATX instead of 60.
Vaaler Creek Golf Club
Played On 12/31/2017Special place
This was my second time playing Vaaler Creek (May 2017 was my first round here), and once again it did not disappoint. The course is lush and immaculately well maintained tee to green, and the greens are well manicured and rolled smoothly and true, just as they did 6 months ago.
The landscape is a rugged, remote feeling bit of Hill Country. An oasis of golf carved seamlessly into a wild, lonely place (which I love, personally). There’s a slowly developing residential neighborhood around the course which does not diminish or interfere with the experience in any way (for me at least).
I’ve played most of the public tracks in and around Austin (and worked at a pretty exclusive private club for a while that I played several times), and this is my favorite of the lot.
Point Venture Golf Club
Played On 02/12/2017Cool little track
Got a great deal on GolfNow so I figured what the heck. Beautiful, remote hill country/lake layout. Fairly tight, greens were small and quick. Course was well maintained, staff was friendly and accommodating. Will absolutely play again.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
Manor sits 400 hundred feet lower in elevation than Oak hill and a creek flows through the course that floods during abnormally high amounts of rainfall. Had you come a few days earlier or a few days later you would have seen much improved course conditions. That being said, If you would have called the pro shop, we would have been happy to send someone out to make sure that group let you through, or we could have offered you a raincheck. We understand that some people wish the layout was reversed, however going back to this layout brought average pace of play down 20 minutes so it was a no brainer.
