The course is intriguing because you must hit a club other than driver on many holes, and it has promising potential if only a couple of issues were resolved:
1. Figure out a solution for the weeds & crabgrass on the putting greens
2. Assign a staff member to rake the bunkers at the beginning of each day

I was looking for a course in the Destin area that wouldn’t break the bank, and found this $22 Hot Deal. Most of the reviews weren’t good, so I called the clubhouse to ask about the current course condition. The person on the other end replied, “It’s playable.” I chuckled, and thought this doesn’t sound very promising, but was willing to give it a shot. The course was tree-lined w/ beautiful live oaks (see AU Toomer’s Corner), and required strategic club selection off the tees. You couldn’t just pull out the driver, and swing for the fences. Fairways were plush. The only negative is that the greens had been recently top dressed w/ sand, so they were extremely sloooooowww.
I realized that the staff worker said the course was “playable” because they got tons of rain 10 days earlier from a hurricane 75 miles to the west, and there was some debris scattered around the course. I would recommend this course without a doubt as long as the price is below $50, and thought it was a fun & thought-provoking course.
Glenlakes Golf Club - Vista/Dunes Course

The only reason I didn’t give the course 5 stars is because some of the greens on the “Lake” nine were splotchy & burned out in many areas, whereas the “Vista” greens were near perfect. Very baffling how the two nines could have such differing green conditions. Other than that, the course conditions & layout made for a very enjoyable round.

First time to play here; very much worth the drive from Birmingham. Front nine is pretty straightforward, not too penal if you miss the fairway off the tee, except for the thick Bermuda rough. Back nine only more difficult than front due to sloping fairways; so if you don't keep your drive close to the middle of the fairway, then there's a good chance it will roll into the rough, woods, water, etc. The quality of the course makes a good score attainable, so I look forward to visiting again to shave off a few strokes.
