Prime time: practice from mats laid on concrete!

Practice ground looks massive, but you’re expected to hit balls off a thin mat placed on concrete!
There COULD NOT BE A MORE SUBSTANTIAL DIFFERENCE from trying to hit a ball on the COURSE! Tee boxes were uneven, but hidden by a thick layer of grass. This made teeing the ball up to a precise height rather difficult.
Fairways looked beautiful, but the ball plugged upon landing; that included the Drives. I’ve been in FL for six weeks and it’s hardly rained! Why are these fairways hiding a swamp underneath?
Bunkers were terrible. Severe slopes, that caught the ball and left you with impossible stances; instead of releasing the ball towards the bottom. Imagine trying to hit bunker shots, where the ball is constantly a foot above your feet.
Greens were firm and fair!
Rough: not much longer than the fairways!
Pace of play: great.
Staff: Lovely.

In season prices for out of season quality

Practice facilities looked wonderful, but you were expected to play down the range off a MATT.
Tees were covered with a little too much grass and not exactly flat.
Fairways looked perfect, but were vary damp and the drives kept stopping on a dime.
Bunkers were poor. Steep faces with too much sand, so the ball was continuously stuck halfway down the slope.
Greens were firm and fair.
Overall: Nothing like the quality it used to be!

This course never fails to deliver an experience worthy of your time. Just remember this “Tony Jacklin is the only person, Jack ever “gave” a putt to”!

Carved through Pines: what looks like a flat piece of land, laid out for an Orange grove; has been transformed by “The Jack Nicklaus”, into an innocuous encounter with victory or terror at every mis-hit.

But, what else would you want? Never too much trouble for the careful golfer, but disaster for the adventurous mis-hit.

The greens are quick and sweeping, but very fair. Come up short and Jack isn’t impressed. Most greens have been designed to revoke a short shot.

Oh great: a short par 4. Remember: Jack built it.

Worth every $$ you spend.

Clubhouse is minute, but welcoming, as are the staff. After 1pm: Worth asking if the back nine is clearer. Might be quicker to play it 10-18 1-9?

Practice facilities are wonderful: DR, CG, PG & BK.

1/2way pickup availability via cart Wi-Fi.

This IS the hidden GEM of SWFL.

No, I’m not employed or sponsored by them. I live in the UK, but have family in SWFL.

Great Municipal course in Naples FL

Due to unseasonably heavy rain, the course had implemented a cart path only rule for the day. This made for some wet walks across soaked fairways. However, the general condition of the fairways was excellent, as were the greens. They both exhibit slight undulations, that make for some interesting shot shaping and putting.
The Teeing grounds are quite large, but are already showing signs of wear, even before the "Season" really takes off.

Tricky track with no GPS on Carts

Tight course, many different Tees to choose from. Drive thru sand areas and well located water features. Greens were very true, but rather slow.
For a New visitor, with no GPS on the Cart, this was a ball losing experience. Driver was not always the correct selection, but with nothing but eyesight, I found some water and ran out of fairway on too many occasions.

A course everyone can enjoy regardless of your Handicap

Everything about this Club exudes the word "Friendly". From the moment you draw up to the Bag drop-off point right through to a well earned Drink in the Bar. Everyone you meet is efficient, knows their job and makes every effort to ensure your day goes smoothly. The Talon Course has 5-6 Tees, so everyone can find one that allows them to challenge and enjoy their game. The holes are varied with water appearing on many, but not in such a way, that causes too much trouble. Most holes also include a desert type of appearance with manicured wasteland areas festoned with tall grasses. The fairways are quite wide, but the greens are set-up to receive a shot from a required direction, so long and straight, needs to be long and acurate. This is exemplified by the final Two holes, they require carefully placed tee shots, that then allow you to access the carefully guarded greens. Having completed your round, do not just drive home: Pop into the Lounge bar situated high up on the vehranda and enjoy a Pint of the Club's very own ALE.
