Snow Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
Played On 10/25/2021Yearly Pilmigrage
Every year we come to Las Vegas to celebrate my birthday, gamble and play Paiute. We've played other courses, but this course (actually three on the property) are top notch. For the price, it's worth the drive. Golf as it should be played. Can't wait til next year.
Olivas Links Golf Course

I would give this course a higher rating if the Golf Now people would have told me they had just aerated. Why such a big secret? This course has a great layout, and good variety of holes. I was a bit concerned when my playing partner warned me about the three guys on bikes coming out of the bushes on the 10th hole heading towards us were tweekers and said don't hassle them they might be packing. He even asked me if I had a gun. This course would be better if the water features actually had water in them. I get the state's water rationing, but it's your fault for not voting the idiot out of office, not mine. Most times I come to this course it's in great shape and very fun to play. Just wish the greens would have been better.
Pala Mesa Resort
Played On 10/05/2021Heads Up when Aeriating
It use to be when a course was aerating, golf now would tell us. I walked into this course blind and saw immediately the practice green white with salt. Every hole had been torn up the day before and you couldn't use the t-boxes because they were being overseaded and had to use the side of them that had monster grass. Had a hard time putting the ball on the t because the grass was too long for the t to go into the ground. How about in the future you let us know about this, and the course, how about if you won't let us use the t-boxes, maybe put a driving mat out there so we have something to hit off of.
I use to love this course, but it was in such terrible shape. I get you have to do maintenance, but charging almost the same price for a poor quality experience makes me not want to come back.
Pala Mesa Resort
Played On 05/18/2021Rough rough
I've played Pala Mesa off and on for over 30 years. First time I've seen the rough this high. Almost lost the ball several times if off the fairway. Green weren't as fast as I'm use to on this course, but still rolled very well. Play was somewhat slow because we were a foresome and had a 2-some in back of us we let go ahead. Saw more 2-somes out there and it's hard to let them go through. Still a fun course that tests your golfing ability. They seemed to have raised the price since the beginning of Covid. Only played because of the $25 off because Roy McElroy and golfnow. $57 is a little high for this course. We didn't come for a while because they didn't allow carts. Now they don't allow you to drive in the fairway on a lot of holes. What happened to 90 degree rule?

Eagle Crest Golf Club
Played On 04/06/2021Heads Up when Aeriating
I get that Eaglecrest is only $20, but it would be nice to show the alert that they are aerating and playing the B9 twice. Sandy greens meant no more than two putts. Patchy fairways, rough rough. This course use to be one of my top 10. Now, it''s moved almost to the bottom. Love the layout, but it needs lots of work tee to green. I bought a 7 package because it is cheap and golf is golf, but it would be nice to show some love to a course that has been very good for a long time.
Thank you for your review.

You need to know how far you hit your clubs to play this course. Lots of forced carries, trees, ponds, and other things. Hit left fairway and went into the water on the right on one hole. Lots of bird droppings, which I didn't like. Putting surface was tough. Worst putting round I've ever had, not sure if it was me or the course. Tough pin placements, lots of undulation. One of my favorite courses, so I must be a masochist. Great chipping area for warm up.
Olivas Links Golf Course

Played here years ago in a tournament with a friend who lives in Ventura. We won, but I wanted to play it with just my ball. Had the opportunity this week. Fantastic layout, fun course and fast greens. Wish this course was closer to my house, I'd play it a lot more.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 10/27/2020Long Haul
This course is a long way out there, but well worth it. Didn't play particularly well today, but had a blast. Lots of wildlife, scenery and quiet. Bridge between 2 and 3 is almost worth the entire trip. The drive to it, from where I live is winding. Too bad I don't have one of those new Corvettes. But my handled it quite fine. Forced carries, tough greens, lots of places for the ball to run and hide. All in all, a good day.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 09/08/2020Steller Price
La Costa for $32? Really? Got lucky and bought it. Had a friend go with me. Played the Legends (South) for the first time in a while. Usually play Champions (North). A little soggy in spots (over watering due to heat) but very playable. Green were great. Had a wonderful time. Shame this price isn't normal. I'd be here all the time.
How did you get that rate

Great course. Group in front must have been playing for $100 a putt because they took forever on the greens. But the course is very nice, the weather was a bit warm, but it's July. Playing partner dropped his phone somewhere on the course and a worker went out looking for it and found it. So his dad was made. Will be back again.
butler2943, thank you for your 4-star review and feedback! We're glad to hear you were still able to enjoy the day with us despite some slow play on the course, and we hope to see you again very soon for another great golf experience. Thanks for choosing The Golf Club of California.
The Vineyard at Escondido
Played On 07/07/2020fivesome
We breezed through the front nine, no one in back, no one in front. The 10th we found a fivesome in front of us and they were slowed by two foresomes in front of them. Course needs a little watering, fairways a little bare. Green were great, though. Very hot out, so maybe that's why. Still a good layout and fun to watch the turtles in some of the various ponds around the property. Bring bug spray for the front nine, little annoying gnats.

How can you not book La Costa for $50? Only comes around once in a great while. Rain last night, but was beautiful all day. Hard course no matter what weather. Pros played here for years. Tiger won three times. As fast as the greens were, can't imagine putting on them when the tour came through. Had a great time, used valet and didn't worry. Will be back.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 10/29/2019Pros Played Here
Haven't played this course in a while because it's expensive. But we got a 'Hot Deal' for $50. If it was $50 every time, it would be my home course.
Saying that, if it was my home course, my handicap would go up about 20 points. Very hard course, has to be to host Tiger Woods and the rest of the PGA for years.
Green were terrifyingly fast and undulating. Bunkers were deep, fairways were true and rough was ... well, rough. Weather finally broke and it was cold in the morning. Only part I hate is the mats on the driving range giving you a false hope. Can't hit a bad shot on a mat. Sure can when you get out on real grass.

This is the course I started playing on years ago. It's been a beater, it's been a good course and now it's an even better course. They got rid of a lot of trees, replaced some areas with 'transition' areas (sand, gravel, etc.) and the greens were perfect, which wasn't always the case. I normally play Marine Memorial for about the same price. This course is actually harder. I actually lost a ball this round, something I haven't done in over 25 rounds at Marine Memorial. We were done in 3 1/2 hours, had a good time and the course was great. Can't beat that.
Welk Resort San Diego - Fountains Executive Course
Played On 04/30/2019Drains well
Played in the rain, nothing hard, but misty all day. Course held up very nice. Green were excellent and no one on the course except four other people who were too stupid, like us, to come in out of the rain.
For being rainy, course held up very nice. As for executive courses, this is one of the best in and around North County.
Welk Resort San Diego - Fountains Executive Course
Played On 04/23/2019Short but fun
This course is very well maintained. Only 'bad' thing is if you tend to hit the ball offline, there are a lot of condos you can smack. But the green are good, the holes are different and fun and the surroundings are beautiful. Don't much care for the first hole since you're not really warmed up and there is no driving range, but hit it to the right and you won't wash your ball on the very first shot. Good bunkers if you're unlucky enough to find one. Played behind a slow two-some, but still got done in 3 hours.
The Golf Club of California
Played On 04/02/2019punched
The fairways were punched a little. Probably a week or so ago. Tee boxes as well, but not a big problem. Plays much easier from the whites. Very hard course, tricky greens but a beautiful course. Hate #9. Never get in position to go for that green. Shot 40 on the B9, so that helped the ride home.

Played On 03/12/2019wet fairways
With all the rain we've had, I'm surprised it wasn't more soggy in the fairways. Cart path only made this course extremely long since the cart paths are usually not very near the fairways. Only had to lift, clean and replace a few times. This course holds the rain better than most. Great greens, which means they will probably be aerating soon. Always a pleasure playing this difficult but fair course.

Finally got to play here again. After all the rain we had, though it might under water. Only water was the tunnel between hole 1&2 and 17&18. Nice river there. Kind of fun.
Some green were a bit bumpy, due to the recent rain and it rained on us on holes 10-12.
But the fairways were good, the green decent and the pace of play adequate.
Even made a 60+ foot putt on #18 to close out the match.
We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. It is great to see you had an enjoyable time on the course and we hope you join us for another round soon.

Love this course, but man was it cold today. Green are a little spotty on some holes, but overall this course is a true gem.
