Down in Myrtle Beach for a few days with my son and his family. We were authorized one round of golf so I spent some time looking into venues on GolfNow and a couple other websites. This course was relatively close to where we were staying and had decent reviews. We arrived and we were cordially greeted, set up on our carts and given a good overview of what to expect. After letting a single play through our round was nice. Pace of play was fast (we got around in 3 1/2 hours) and the course was challenging but not punitive. Conditions were good with the exception of a couple greens that had been recently sodded and had not blended in yet. After the round we had a beer on the quiet back deck before heading out.

I have played Skybrook a number of times over the years. Like a number of the courses in the area Skybook has not been in optimal shape the last couple years. In the last couple months I have played here three times and each time you can see the efforts of the work the greenskeeping staff is putting into the course. The greens are in very good shape and putt true. Fairways have some areas with little to no grass but these are getting fewer and fewer. Tees show the greatest improvement with new sod and upkeep. For the mid handicap golfer Skybook is one of the best course around. The fairways are wide and greens fair but challenging to read. For all but one tee shot you can see the landing area even though the layout reminds me of a course in the mountains. The 17th hole is one of my favorites anywhere; a beautiful par 4 that requires two good shots to get on in regulation.

Staying at Seabrook Island for the 4th of July. Paying for 3 could not afford to play anywhere out there. Got an early afternoon Saturday tee time for a little over $100. Was pouring rain when we arrived but the course drained nicely. This is a good, fair golf track and the Bermuda greens were really nice the day we played. Proximity of the housing to the course is not ideal but I've seen worse for a course in the middle of a housing development. Did have to wait quite a bit the back 9 but nor unreasonably for a weekend afternoon. Would play again.
