Lakelands Golf Club
Played On 11/20/2023Great layout TERRIBLE greens
One of the better courses on the Gold Coast with a challenging layout and some very visually attractive holes. Fairways were in good condition although the greens and tees are undergoing maintenance ATM and were very, very poor. Large areas around the greens had been relaid/re-seeded and covered with a thick layer of fine, loose sand. These areas were not marked as GUR although they were not suitable for play. The greens had been line scarified and heavily sanded. In a number of cases the green’s surface was just a thin layer of sand - no grass to be seen. Putting was a lucky dip - on one green the ball ‘broke’ 45 degrees off line just before the hole.
While we understand courses have regularly scheduled maintenance, they and GN should make it clear that the course is nowhere near fair condition BEFORE they accept full payment for a round.
Palm Meadows Golf Course
Played On 11/17/2023Aged course still playing well. Clubhouse and facilities are ramshackle
The Palm Meadows course is definitely a survivor having lasted through multiple owners and closures. The course itself is a good layout, a cross between championship and resort layouts. The greenkeeping team are doing a good job with the greens and fairways all in good condition. The club house and pro shop look like they have not had a $ spent on them since the 1980s - very sad.
Special mention for the bar and kitchen staff - good range of meals prepared quickly and served with a smile.
The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
Played On 06/26/2019Great course. Hard greens
Played this course last year when it was cart path only. Did not enjoy the frequent hikes across the fairways and some very tough lies.
This time it was 90 degree rule and much more enjoyable. The greens have been recently scarified and are very hard, fast and true.
Rough is short but tough to hit out of. Take your lumps and use a 5 iron.
Overall a very good day.
