Shadow Hills Golf Club
Played On 04/15/2024Always a fav ;)
Haven't played Shadow Hills - South in many years. They flipped (years ago supposedly?) the #1 & #10 tees, but haven't redone the stone tees info markers on every tee box...?? LOL ;) :) Anyways, always a very nice track. Play was VERY slow from #8 - #18, NO Course MARSHALL IN SIGHT! Greens were hard but rolled well and held most short iron shots!
Desert Falls Country Club
Played On 09/03/2018Summer GREENS...
Desert Falls C C is considered to be a mid range private country club in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, CA area.) The staff was nice, Overall the course was in good shape (especially for LATE SUMMER...) The tee boxes were allowed to grow extremely "spongy" and were not level in a lot of areas. No cart based GPS...? Fairways were generally good, BUT DON'T MISS by more than a few inches! First cut was very "spongy" and ball would drop to the bottom easily! Second cut (3 feet or so off the fairways) was pretty penalizing (lost one ball 15 feet of the fairway) Greens were typical SUMMER GREENS... Slow, Bumpy, Inconsistent and some were damaged enough I had to take several drops to playable surface areas!
Woodhaven Country Club
Played On 05/13/2018Always fun and good ego booster!
This time of year (mid May) is always a good time for Coachella Valley golf... It's gotten cheaper, the snow-birds are mostly gone too! Average players course, generous fairways, no blind / tricky holes, not many bunkers in play! 3 hour round at an enjoyable pace for our 3 some! Staff is nice, tee to green was lush, greens were semi soft and rolled well! Smokin' deal as usual too!
Escena Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2016Course fun, Staff iffyy...
Cart guys at entry were bored and not helpful, BOTH AT THE START & EVEN WORSE LATER AT FINISHING!
Starter was awesome, friendly and helpful, Pro shop guy was as well, Cart Girl was great too! The course was overall in good shape, with exception of a lot of bare / dead spots in fairways! Greens were mostly great, tees were good! Bunkers and water were all there and pretty! We started at 10:30am on Sunday. At 3:30pm 5 hours later we finished! I had heard about the great bar / restaurant, it was closed! I lost a head cover, CART guys said sorry no lost and found or it was in the locked up CLOSED pro-shop...? This put a bad taste in my mouth about returning here...! Spoiling an otherwise nice golf day!!
Shadow Hills Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2016It's a HOT SUMMER... Sooo!
As usual (played here many times over the years) Shadow Hills South course wss "mostly good"...
Staff / Pro shop was awesome, carts were fine, with Ice in the on-cart cooler! Range was in good shape and balls out for warm-up! Tees were good, MOST FAIRWAYS WERE BURNED OUT BROWN & DEAD IN MANY SPOTS...! Bunkers and water hazards were very good (only 1 lake partially drained). GREENS WERE AWESOME AS USUAL! Some of the best in the valley!
FYI - Cold water station at east side of snack shop bldg.! Snack shop was closed at 9:am (NEVER SAW A CART GIRL on a Sunday? On course restrooms were locked (accessible with resident key...?) And with that said I'd go back again soon, always a great fun track!
Calimesa Country Club
Played On 08/07/2016Still needs a lot of TLC
Classic William Bell course, short (5900 yds. from the tips) but occasionsaly tricky! Tees were rough, fairways were hard and dry, about half the greens were semi good (2 temp greens 4 & 8)! Some patches of really thick rough here and there...? Dirt cart paths, so lots of dust to breath, very bumpy and pot-holed too... I got an "Under $20 deal" and still over-priced! Cart girl came around once, on #4 and said she's leaving... very friendly staff otherwise! I'd heard about new owners and some improvements recently, but there's still a lot to do to revive this old tired classic track!
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
Played On 07/15/2016Pretty Fun course
Nice facility, friendly & helpful staff, great pro-shop, Course (Legends course) was fun, albeit a bit repetitive at times! I played from the "Black Tees" approx. 6800 yds. Fairly challenging (quite a few very long par 4's) Helps to play with someone who knows the layout! Tees were good, fairways were pretty bad in some of the common target areas, bunkers were good and lots of them! GREENS were awesome, consistent and semi fast! Some of the best greens I've played in years! Cart girls were not around enough! FYI #1 This course does not return to clubhouse at the turn and the 10th tee "Halfway House" is closed often)...!! FYI #2 STAY ON THE FAIRWAY!! The rough is very thick in many areas! Lost balls and wrist injurys are waiting in the rough! Compliments to the "Marshals / Starter" Very Helpful!! =) FYI #3 Good tap beer selection!
Now that I've played it, knowing where to hit the ball will help maybe 3 shots a side! Looking forward to returning SOON!
Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 06/20/2016Very entertaining track!
Grounds are spectacular, staff was very helpful and professional ! Tee to Green in great condition (especially for the many 120'+ degree days we've already had this year! ) Greens are super, undulateing but fair, not fast but not slow, held everything I thru at them! Lots of water and bunkers all in pristeen shape!
Very entertaining lay out too, enjoyed every hole for it's own qualities! I played from the tips (about 6700+ yds.) 2 par 3's over 220 yds. most of the course was a fair challenge! In cart GPS was nice! Looking forward to the next time! THX!
Hemet Golf Club
Played On 04/02/2016Greens great... The rest awful
I paid $20+ and it wasn't worth THAT... Starter / shop guy was less than welcoming. Tees were bumpy, patchy and not flat, Fairways ( if you could see where the edges were...) were 1/2 brown and dead, Bunkers were mostly hard and lacked sand, SWAMPS aka Lakes / ponds were mostly nasty very low on water and stunk (lots of flies / mosquitos )!! One large lake (used by 3 holes on the back nine) should be deemed a "FEDERAL SUPER-FUND CLEANUP SITE" !! YIKES! The lake on 17th was very nice tho...? To my surprise, the GREENS were mostly very good, held most shots well and putted consistently! This track is not worth another trip for me!
Palm Desert Resort Country Club
Played On 02/14/2016Another "DESERT GEM"
Very entertaining, lush, interesting and easy on the eyes! Loved the designers different take on all aspects of the game! Only 6600+ from "the tips" but great use of dog-legs and need for distance control =) HUGE OVERSIZED FAIRWAYS, lots of well placed water hazards! Then ended the day (#18 ) with one of the most interesting finishing holes EVER!! Tees, fairways and greens were as close to perfect as possible for "non private" facility! Greens rolled true & were semi-hard, held full shots, but pitches rolled forever! Never saw a "cart girl" tho...? Will go back soon!! Thx! =)
onebigfishy69 - Thank you very much for the 5 star review! We are thrilled to hear that you had a great time! We also look forward to seeing you again soon!
Thanks for your review. As you mentioned, we are under new management and working hard to restore the course to its former glory. Thanks for your patience in the meantime and thanks for playing! Please come back and play again soon!
