About

I love the smell of fresh cut grass in the morning. I like taking long walks at sunset, I'm not a big fan of the beach but it's better than swimming in a pond. My favorite artist is Player, my favorite sound is a birdie falling into a cup. My favorite phrase is "How about another 18?" - I don't play on a golf course, I play golf!

Great Value, Lots of Fun!

From my last October round, posted on another golf site.."That went very well!! Woke up to a lovely morning and booked a $30 hot deal. Had enough time before going out for a small bucket on the range. Felt like I was making a good move though the ball and was able to actually take it to the first tee box and beyond! Had what passes for good control in my game pretty much around the course for a change. I think I had a chunk, a pull, and a couple of wedges go thin and hot on me, other than that pretty solid ball striking. Nice course for the price, this one is owned by the local community college I believe and the rates are always very reasonable. There were a couple of crusty fairways in the shady areas and some muddy soft spots that could be deadly if small child or elderly lady stepping in. Overall in real good condition, short and a little twisty in places but fun to play!

Always Worth the Trip

This is not a high bank oval, there are a few straight away's where you can really open it up but be ready to break late into the turns and accelerate hard out of the apex! So much fun to play!!

Pretty Good, Not Bad, Can't Complain...

But after all these golf courses are all the same... Got a good twilight rate, pace of play was good. Had a group behind us that that got a little pushy. Don't mind somebody hitting to the green while walking off if they are good enough to hit the green. Maybe they were aiming for the cart path???

Electric cart died after 8 1/2 holes, left it in the fairway and walked in to get a new ride. For some reason the back 9 is actually the front and the course just doesn't feel like changing the score cards. The range is adequate but the balls are a buck or two higher than I'm used to for a medium bucket.

The course itself is interesting and fun, Nice mix of open, longer holes on the back and tight shorter holes on the back. Got to use every club in the bag. A few baked spots and some sod in the fairways but not bad overall. Greens play well but were just covered with unrepaired ball marks. Pick up one of those little forked thingies and learn to use it people, your Mother doesn't play here!! Also had a bunch of really nasty spike marks from someone who hasn't gotten the soft-spike memo and doesn't know how to walk with out dragging their toes.

Overall a good afternoon of golf! I'll be back.

Beginner's Gold

This is probably the best layout in the area for a beginning golfer. It was my first round of golf many years ago and every few years I go back just for the nostalgia...

The course itself is usually in pretty good shape and was for this round. There are a few low lying areas that can be muddy so watch your step. I walked the front 9 in one hour flat and paired up with a single for the back 9 which slowed me down to an hour and a half...

Great fun for the whole family as they say! Driving range, par 3 chip & putt course, and a mini putt-putt. It's not Whistling Straights, just relax and have fun with it!

A Pleasant Surprise

It has been a couple of years since I last played here. I was very pleasantly surprised at the dramatic improvement in the upkeep of this classic golf course. The greens were almost pristine! Very smooth and quick, almost no ball marks. The fairways are in great shape and the rough was thick and lush. Several of the tee boxes are in poor condition, I hope this is on the todo list for the maintenance staff because this was an otherwise great day of golf.

Played with my regular golfing buddy and we were paired with a couple of fellows who are very new to the game. I don't mind playing with newbs, it is a public course but I was surprised they were sharing a bag including having only one putter between them. Did our best to keep them moving along but it was a 5 hour round. Nice guys and enjoyed their company however this is not a good choice for the beginning golfer on a Sunday morning. The par 4's are long and narrow, the par 3's are tight, fairways are not generous by any stretch and the 600 yard 14th is just the icing on the cake.

Couldn't beat the price, if you've been here before and felt disappointed take another look!

On the Way Home

What a nice place for a round of Fall golf! This is a Muni worth taking the long way home to play. Instead of coming home from OCM up the coast, I took Rt-50 and swung West about an extra hour or so on the way back to NJ. Very glad I did!

Loved the tee boxes! Very soft, perfectly level, grass was thick and plush. I was impressed with the overall balance of the layout, one of the best parkland courses I've played. Bunkers, hazards and trees are all in play.

No slight of hand, it was all right in front of me. All I had to do was play it. Put up a good front nine then pushed too hard on the back. Would like to have a few of those back...

The Views Alone are Worth It!

Spectacular course beside the bay, views in every direction. Fairways are beyond generous, greens are in very good shape. Played with two locals who had some game and seemed to inspire mine. Shot a new low score here, very happy with that.

Too bad it didn't rub off on the groups in front. This is one of the big stops on the package deal circuit, don't be surprised to find yourself behind groups of well lubricated hackers. They played the blues and got most of them past the reds, albeit well to the right or left. Lots of time spent tramping about the edge of the wetlands to no avail. We finished in the dark, but got all 18 in.

Saw a Bald Eagle flying low over the trees then perched nearby for a photo op, also one of the local mini-deer sniffing cautiously about the tee box. Quite a few Heron about too.

This one's a gem, can't wait to go back!

Classic - Like Mozart

Smooth, aggressive, subtle, challenging... So very glad I got a chance to play here. This is old school at it's best. If I have a complaint, it's the cart paths. Dig them out and get rid of them! This is a walkers course, a dozen steps gets from green to next tee on many holes. The elevation changes are just enough to give the legs a workout without causing heart failure. The greens on the other hand just might... Subtle and sometimes not so subtle contours really hold your attention. Downhill putts just keep rolling and 8 foot come backs will roll straight to the hole if your nerves are still steady enough.

The fairways have suffered some damage spots from the weather this year, but are overall in very good shape. I wouldn't go so far as to call them generous however, a little control off the tee will go a long way here. The rough near the fairways is thick but fair, around the greens it gets pretty gnarly. Bunkers are large, deep, and plentiful. I took advantage of the opportunity to play out of several of them.

In all honesty, I would probably never played this course at full price. Not saying it would not be worth it, just not in my budget. I watched this site most of the Summer waiting to catch a really good deal, so very glad I did!!

Thanks GolfNow!

Easygoing & Playable

A little out of the way and a bit rough around the edges. Fairways are narrow and tree lined. Bunkers are interesting and well placed, a couple need attention. Greens were sandy and hard but most rolled faster than they looked. Tee boxes are pretty gritty, not unusual for this area and time of year. Check your yardages carefully on the par 3's, I think the card may have a few outright lies on it... (eighth hole, cough, cough!) Gotta break down and get me a laser.

Plenty of water stations, only a few potty stops. Staff seemed friendly, starter was pleasant and chatty while we waited to get going. A couple of young men loaded our bags at the drop and gave the clubs a quick wipe after the round, the beverage cart made frequent passes.

I read some of the other more negative reviews here. I paid 35 bucks to play 18 holes of golf on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and had absolutely nothing to complain about. The course is not perfect, but it is very playable and enjoyable. We played in 4 hours flat even though the course was filled to capacity.

Basic Golf at it's Best

OK, So the kid behind the counter was, ahhhh... "grumpy" shall we say. The mats on the range are in shambles, just terrible! This ain't Augusta, but I'm not Arnold Palmer either.

I've played her many times before, it's a great after work course. It's accessible, it's playable, it's reasonable! You don't even need the discount specials to play here, rack rates are more than affordable. This is also a great!! walking course. Nothing that even resembles a hill and no wandering about to get to the next tee box.

The conditions were excellent! Fairways, greens, and rough were all in very good shape. Bunkers are a little stony, but's that's typical in this area. The layout itself offers several interesting and challenging holes. There is nothing on the course that jumps out at you visually, no sweeping vistas or intimidating bunkering. At the end of a round you'll find you still have to play good golf shots to get home with a decent score.

Again, it's not Pine Valley, but it is a good day of golf!

Tight 'N Twisty but Lots 'O Fun

First time play, the course is interesting and fun to play. The landing areas are pretty tight on a few holes. More a Watkins Glen kind of layout than an Indy 500. Nice course, bit of a ride for me, kind of out in God's country. Tucked into the soft underbelly of Chester County just a few miles from the Delaware and Maryland border. The biggest challenge may be finding the place, watch the little lefts and rights, missed a few of those and had to improvise. Lots of farmland around, kind of rustic and quite.

Most of the greens were very rough this early in the year. Speed was generally slow and unpredictable, lots of old aeration punch marks but also some flat out bare patches. It is early in the year and I don't think any real growth has started yet. We are playing a club event here later in the year and I'll be curious how the place shapes up by then. Tee box and fairways are pretty good, traps had real sand in them, greens were not in good shape. Par 70, not very long, I played from the Whites, but the Black tees are not at all out of reach. Fairways are pretty tight in places and there are plenty of hazards to be found if you get sloppy.

Not a great walking course, it's hilly in places and several of the holes have long hikes to the next tee box. Saw some juniors walking, but I'm pretty sure that's because they can't use the carts. Besides, they're young and healthy and the exercise is good for them anyway I guess.. Also saw some nice bass in the pond on the 3rd hole.

Oh yeah, bring your GPS or laser the tee box markers do not agree with the card yardage. The card seems to be mostly correct, fairways have 150 poles and most but not all have a bush or grass clump at 100 yds. a few at 200 yds. Very few sprinkler head markers. Most of the holes you really need to know how far from hazards and pins.

Got better than half off at GolfNow. Couldn't complain about the price. Pro shop had all the usual amenities, Grill food was very good and there is a menu posted at the 8th hole so you can call ahead at the turn. It's BYOB, no beer sold here.

Hard to judge pace of play, we were a 3'some and mostly had the course to ourselves. It was a beautiful day but still chilly and windy. Several holes are exposed on the hills and I'll bet the wind is a factor more often than not.

All in all, I'd give Chisel Creek a thumbs up. I thought it was worth the trip even with the early season blemishes.

A Local Favorite

Played an early season round 4-6-13. Course was in good shape for this time of year, greens still have aeration scars but ran very fast. Went off just after noon and finished just before 5, didn't feel like a long round at all. First really nice Saturday of the season and it was a bit crowded. Not all of the crowd was golfers, there was a fair size herd of deer gamboling about on the fairways. Looked like they were enjoying the Spring sunshine too!

This is a tough little course, it really keeps your attention all the way around. Plenty of holes to air out the driver on, just don't expect to get by with a sloppy slice. Just my opinion, but not a great choice for beginners. If you can't your ball in play, this can be a very frustrating layout. Lots of terrain, ravines, drop offs, etc.. OB in all the wrong places and trees everywhere else! In a few weeks the rough will start growing back and even the little misses get more challenging then.

They have a construction project in work. No effect on play, but access to the pro shop is difficult. You need to take the long way around to the left of the building. There was no club drop that I could find, some signage would be helpful here. Don't know how long this will last, it's a fairly minor inconvenience.

Great course!! Really a lot of fun to play. Always look forward to getting out here!

Overuse of the word WOW!!!

The main difficulty in writing anything about this course is avoiding over using the exclamation "WOW!"

For those privileged few with the game, way back in another zip code, the tips beckon. For a 20 like me, the Blues are perfect... The fairways are enormous, the greens ran fast and true, and every time I looked up, all I could think of was "WOW!"

Short game, putting, and driving range areas are all included, arrive early and take your time warming up. Staff are both helpful and plentiful. This course is listed in every top whatever published anywhere. Play it and find out why! I was NOT disappointed!!

36 Holes of Eastern Shore Delight!

Annual October vacation week in Ocean City, Maryland.

One of the premier walking courses on the Eastern Shore. I went off as a single on the West course at 8:10 and finished by 11:45. Pretty much had the whole course to myself, one of the advantages of weekday golf. After a quick lunch, I was off, again on the West, just after noon and done a few minutes past 4. The East side course is also very walker friendly.

The fairways are a little spotty in places and the 16th green is a bit shabby. Aside from that the rest of the course is pristine! Greens were fast and smooth, several have very challenging shelf's and contours.

This parkland layout is a great mix of wide open driving holes and tight tree lined placement holes. I generally play from the Blue tees here, a little over where my 20 handicap says I should be. I'm not a fan of 240 yard par 3's, all the par 3's here are reachable without breaking out the long clubs. Water on most of them encourages accuracy however.

Pro shop is well stocked, small practice bucket of balls is included. Good eats at the grill, plenty of water stations on the course and several well placed potty stops. Keep an eye out for the plentiful local wildlife. I have seen Deer, Turkey, lots of Hawks, and a Bald Eagle dinning on a fresh fish breakfast behind the 8th green on one occasion!
