Indian Canyons Golf Resort - North Course
Played On 03/02/2016Best of 2016
Many of us that are in the desert for multiple months don't want to spend $80-$100 on each round. One has to eat also. IC(N) qualifies as my go to place for 2016. The staff is friendly and most accomodating from beginning to end. The conditions are excellent (Mar). All skill levels will be challenged with 5 tees and mostly generous landing areas. The greens are somewhat slow but undulating providing a reasonable test for everyone. The par 3s can range from 126-200 yds. Water is sprinkled in. Each hole has a distinctive quality. Not alot of repetition. A great place to play.
Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa - Pete Dye Resort Course
Played On 02/01/2015Best In A Few Yrs.
After my round and in concurrence with a starter I feel that the condition of the course is better than my previous 6 yrs. Lies were tight as usual but only once did I encounter any negative man-controlled issue. The greens putted fast but true. The traps had enough sand as opposed to some desert courses that have a sprinkle sitting over hardpan. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Try to book through a service for the best price because the tee times can get pricey. The best part of my day and a hint to my ability Super Bowl Sunday was that I completed a round at Mission Hills Dye with the same ball I started with.
Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course
Played On 03/28/2014A Good 1st time
Played 1st time ever and came away with a very positive feeling about the entire experience. Greeting was fine, checkin friendly, practice facilities above average and tee-off on time. The pace of play was acceptable and a marshall was visible. Fairways were reasonably wide and all areas in good condition. Greens were slower than average and on this day covered with unrepaired ball marks. I will return on a regular basis in 2015.
SilverRock Resort
Played On 03/18/2014Tee It Forward
This could become my favorite course in the desert. It's well kept, scenic and has a caring staff. But like so many rounds my group was adversely effected by several 20-30-40 somethings playing too far back for their game. We played the combo tees and had a good time. If you are a mid to high handicapper please use the forward tees and have a memorable experience. The property lends itself to great enjoyment. Give it a try.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
Played On 03/14/2014Enjoyable First Time
Highly recommend the South to all golfers. Questionable course rating because as a 14 was led to teal tees and it was definitely longer than indicated on the scorecard. Fairly wide fairways but very challenging par 3s. This day the greens were very bumpy and slow. Probably partially due to a 1:15 start. Will definitely be back soon but looking at the greens from a little bit shorter distance.
Desert Falls Country Club
Played On 02/25/2014One Among Many
Arrived at the course thinking because of the number of people there it might be a 5 hr. round. It ended at 4hrs with little waiting. Higher handicappers might feel a little overmatched. Some par 4's were not reachable against the wind. Longish par 3's. It will be a long day if you are not striking the ball fairly well. Big negative are the unrepaired ball and spike marks on the greens. Lost 2 pars by last second left turns at the hole. For the amount of play I'd say give it a try.
Legend at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort
Played On 02/16/2014Where is Arnold Palmer?
This is my first and probably only time I will play here. The course is not horrible but again is the victim of flooding which results in a few forced carries. Greens are very slow compared to other courses. Most women would not return because of tee placement. The range is amongst the worst I've been on. Difficult to find turf this day. For $59 you don't expect Augusta National but Tahquitz and Arnold we expect better.
Rancho Mirage Country Club
Played On 02/14/20141 YR.= Big Difference
I thought last year was my last playing here because the conditions were going downhill. This year the course was rejuvenated to very good. The pace was fast (I don't know why) . Other than the 3 women I was originally paired with rejecting me because I may not be up to their quality of play everything was great. I couldn't contain my glee when just ahead of me on #6 all 3 put their tee shots in the water. They did miss some pretty good shots on my part! Alls well that ends well.
Valley at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
Played On 02/12/2014Another love/hate round
My countless decisions to play this resort course lead to the same frustration. Great staff, nice practice area, and impeccable conditions would normally lead to an unbeatable experience. Unfortunately I need to get in a rhythm to hit consistently. Here I never will. The last 3 times here have been 4 and3/4 hours plus. The staff will not do anything. What's hurting golf is in full view here. Playing from the wrong tee, plumb-bobbing putts for an 8, and poor use of carts all contribute to the chaos. If you must, bring patience.
Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
Played On 7/17/2013Good Practice Course
Although Anderson's Glen would never make your top 10 it qualifies as a very good practice course. Over the course of your round you'll hit all the shots. Alot of trees, sand and water give you ample opportunity to hit all the shots. Most fairways are ample, so if you are on your game you should be able to score. I was not and thus I did not! A good afternoon in 95 degree heat but with much shade. Will return to take revenge.
Green at Tunxis Country Club
Played On 4/15/2013An early spring trial
Returning to an old standby was highly anticipated but the early spring weather interceded to make this an uncomforable round. All the holes on the white course are interestingly different in character and difficulty. The greens were in good shape but very slow. The fairways and tees were in need of some care. They were very rough with balls often settling into mini depressions that probably won't be there in a month. The staff is cordial and helpful. I'll definitely return in June. I know the conditions will be better.
Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort - North/South
Played On 3/12/2013A real workhorse
This course is not without its faults but if you want a good experience at less than resort rates, this is one of the places to go.Mostly great vistas winding through residences. Good mid-handicap course that won't press golfers with over challenging 2nd shots. Par 3s are comfortable distances. Sand and water is plentiful but not impossible. The only problem encountered this trip is a lack of carts. The range(drivers) is quite a walk and carts are not available until just before tee off. Staff is friendly but a sense of being harried. All in all a good day for 12 handicaps and up.
Shadow Mountain Golf Club
Played On 2/11/2013A Wasted Walk
This was by far the worst golf experience I've had in the Palm Desert area since coming here 12 years ago. No cart ready for us when we arrived. Went to the range and there were 8 spaces for practice, all of which were taken. Waited 15 min. to get a spot. On the 1st and 9th hole you are in danger of getting hit with an errant ball off the range. Multiple groups on most holes (3 on par 3's). Tees so close together you have to wait to tee off. Worst layout ever. Position of 9th tee puts vehicles and walkers in danger. We quit after 9. Golf Now should take this course off its availability list.2
Deare edawr,
It is great to hear that our hard work on condition of the course is paying off. It is an ongoing project and we hope to gradually improve every year. Thank you for your comments and we look forward to having you again.
