North at Daytona Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/01/2018Still a nice course
I noticed that no one had reviewed this course in months on Golfadvisor so I thought I'd provide an update.
Course was in in very good condition. Greens were "fluffy" and slow, but in good condition.
Layout is good. Open fairways with enough sand and water to keep it interesting . Not an outright stunning course in the landscaping/views. Just a basic golf course with good conditions, good clubhouse restaurant, good prices, friendly people and not crowded.
Riviera Country Club
Played On 02/28/2018Great condition
Compared to all the semi-private courses in the area, Riviera has the best greens, i.e. low cut, fast and consistent from hole to hole. The fairways are in very good shape. The rough hasn't fully grown in yet (so I'm told from my playing partners).
I have to mention that Mike in the pro shop is the best.
Course was crowded but the pace was great with no waits no longer than 3 minutes.
Clubhouse has very good food & service. The ambiance of the clubhouse and facilities are limited by its structurally dated design.
Although golfnow.com can book a reservation, it really is a no advanced reservation course and has been for years. I'm not sure if changing to accepting all advanced reservations would be good, the current process has worked with little in delays.
Indigo Lakes Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2017Nice Course for Money
I found the course to be in good condition. Fairways and greens were watered well. Some tee boxes were dried out a bit. The course probably gets a higher slope rating because of the consistent placement of bunkers on the sides of the fairway at normal driving distance. Some invasive grasses on the greens were being addressed by the grounds crew.
Being adjacent to Rt. 95 is a drawback for a few holes.
The restaurant was closed by an inspector on the day we played. Not a good sign to patrons.
Crane Lakes Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/28/2017Fun Course
Was in great shape. Unfortunately it was cart path only due to recent heavy rain the previous two days. Par 66. Each nine has one par 5 and four par 3's. Greens are pretty easy to read since the slopes are obvious. Wide fairways. Great place to play.
The Club at Pelican Bay - North Course
Played On 03/29/2017Needs some TLC (or water)
I was disappointed with the condition of the course. Everywhere was dry & brown. Often the ball would land in the fairway I could see a splash of dirt because of the little amount of live grass. The greens had patches of disease and foreign growth in them. This is a far cry from the good condition it was in about two years ago.
At the regular price, I can't recommend this course. There are better options.
River Bend Golf Club
Played On 03/15/2017Always a pleasure!
Fairways were fully grown in and gave tight lies. Greens were fast and smooth. I've played RB at least 20 times in the last few years and it is always a pleasure. The only thing I would suggest is to give some effort to patching the concrete cart paths that have heaved badly.
St. Augustine Shores Golf Club
Played On 03/01/2017Short course with a few challenges.
Greens were small and seldom had any sand traps protecting them. Greens were "fluffy" (not mowed) and some had sand / needed some TLC.
Fairways were mainly dormant grass. Probably gets into very good shape after the grass fills in by mid-spring. Would shoot better on next round after getting to know the nuances of some of the layout.
Overall not bad for the price.
Tomoka Oaks Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/17/2017You get what you pay for
Only change in last couple of years is that there is now debris from the hurricane (4 months ago) still piled on the course.
Fairways are mainly dirt with some weeds. Rough is worse. Greens are OK at best. Tee boxes are a joke.
For $20 and hardly anyone there, it can be a viable practice course.
Course design itself is very good. Potentially beautiful with many old live oaks. Shame it is in this condition. But that's why it's only $20 and not crowded.
Cypress Head Golf Club
Played On 02/15/2017Enjoyable.
Course is in very good shape for this time of year. Fairways cut low. Greens are in good shape. Ponds look low - evidently they have not had much rain recently. Some dormant grass. Enough traps and water, but these hazards are not in play too often.
Nice modern clubhouse is good for a drink & sandwich.
Spruce Creek Country Club
Played On 02/08/2017Very good condition
Fairways and greens were tightly mowed. Only a couple tee boxes were burned out & needed some care.
Beautiful mature live oaks straddle many of the fairways. Large pines and palms also frame the holes. Fairways are fairly wide. The fairway bunkers are placed in challenging locations. Nice sand in greenside bunkers. Overall a well maintained, beautiful course. Only negative was the pace of play was very slow (4.5 hours).
New Smyrna Golf Club
Played On 02/01/2017Open layout
Most memorable feature is the sparse landscaping on almost all holes. There are a couple of palm trees every 50 yards along the fairways, with some occasional water far to the side. No real OB since the fairways are adjacent to each other and the rough is not deep. So it plays very open. Even the tee boxes appear to be close to the previous greens because of the lack of shrubs or grasses between them.
Greens were in good shape and fairways were a seven out of ten. Strange to mention, but the concrete cart paths were in better shape than most courses with no major heaving or separations.
Hidden Lakes Golf Course
Played On 01/25/2017Great condition
Course was in great condition compared to most for this time of year. Greens are flat, in great condition & consistent. Sand is soft. Course is relatively easy when shots are placed well since it isn't a long course.
Staff is friendly. Pace of play was much better than anticipated (3.5 hr) especially considering the course was crowded. Clubhouse was basic but enjoyable with low priced food & drinks.
The Preserve at Turnbull Bay
Played On 01/18/2017A lot of water
17 of 18 holes have water hazards. Therefore, the prevailing design is water on one side of the fairway and natural landscape on the other side. Wide fairways. Greens were in good condition except one that had a bad patch. Greens were sloped and hilly. I can't remember any being flat. Condition of fairways was average to good considering this time of year has a lot of brown dormant grass. Limited food & drink serviced over a counter.
Grand Reserve Golf Club
Played On 01/11/2017Good condition
Course in good condition. Quiet setting considering the lack of housing development (only 6 homes were developed). Good value.
Cypress Knoll Golf & Country Club
Played On 01/04/2017Improving each week
Since the course was abandoned and new owners took over, the condition of the course is progressively improving. Tee boxes are now reseeded and growing in. The greens are good except for a few weeds in some spots. Some fairways will need extensive removal of weeds and all of them could use seeding. January is the wrong time of year to expect plush fairways. I expect that by spring the course will be one of the best around here. Overall it's a very good design. Friendly staff.
For those who have never played here – don’t! This dump isn’t a real golf course. The owners and staff are rude and unfriendly. The course (poetic license) is shoe-horned in-between condos and homes with poorly designed holes and badly maintained fairways. As a matter of fact, the course is so deficient that it isn’t even rated by the Florida Golf association/USGA -- meaning that you can’t even post a handicap score if you play here. If you really want to play golf, avoid this landfill dump and go play putt-putt.
