The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2021Not bad, not great
Decent course, good service. Greens were great and relatively fast. Grass was limited off fairway. Layout of course was average. Overall, for $105 plus tax it was high for what you got but it’s PHX in March during a pandemic.
Breezy Point Resort - Whitebirch Golf Course
Played On 09/01/2019Please cut your fairways! Need faster greens!
I haven't played Whitebirch in 25 years but I remember I liked the layout. The condition of the course was good except for the following: Rocks in the bunkers (not a few but a lot), very slow greens*, and shaggy fairway where you will get flier lies. *I'm used to fast greens so this resort course was unbelievably slow uphill. Downhill putts did not run out. The course is tight on a number of holes but overall playable, especially on the front except for number 1 handicap hole which is a tight par 5. I do recommend this course to play but Breezy needs to invest in the bunkers & mow the grass.
The Classic at Madden's on Gull Lake
Played On 08/06/2019Top Course in Lakes Area
This was the 4 or 5th time I played the Classic. It is my favorite course in the Lakes Area but also the most punishing. I'm a low handicapper but when your tee game is off, its game over. Still, the layout is great without some of the awkward holes of some layouts. Some blind shots but manageable. We played it on Tuesday in August and it was dead (which was great for us!). This is because its quite expensive compared to the rest of the Lakes Area. If you want to play the best on your vacation - try the Classic (alternative option is Deacon's Lodge which is #2).
Eagle's Landing Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2019Non-Resort Course, Hidden Gem
Played this track back in July 2019 with my son on an early weekend day. The course is fun, fairly easy for a low handicapper as there is room on most holes to go after it. We played it a few years back and it was consistent. Being located between Little Falls and Brainerd, it has its regulars and regular weekend players as I could tell. For the value, pace of play and experience, I would recommend this one.
The Wilderness At Fortune Bay
Played On 09/19/2018Best Course in MN north of Duluth!
I play the Wilderness on an annual basis, typically in September. Conditions that time of year are perfect (usually before any aeration occurs). The last time I played was September of 2018, this was a year when many courses in the region had a very rough start to the year due to freeze/thaw/rain during the winter. The Wilderness was fantastic. This is the best course in NE Minnesota, outside of Northland Country Club (a Donald Ross gem). I'm playing it again in September 2019 and expect the the same satisfaction.
