Wolf Creek Golf Course - Old Course
Played On 10/06/2014Best golf experience in Alberta
Living in Red Deer, I've been lucky enough to play the Wolf a number of times over the past few years. It may be tough if your game isn't up to snuff, but it truly is a golf experience like no other. The course is ALWAYS in immaculate shape, the holes are very unique, and it can actually be surprisingly forgiving for a course this tough.
Count on some wind, perfect, rolling greens and playing at least one shot from thick rough...but you'll get a fair test of your game.
Ponoka Community Golf Club
Played On 09/29/2014Soggy day, still a great time.
Course has a great layout, some awesomely large greens and is a moderate challenge.
Played on a drizzly day though and the course played INCREDIBLY soft. No run on greens at all. Not sure if that's normal, but something to keep in mind.
Meadowlands Golf Club
Played On 09/24/2014Great place to score well
Meadowlands doesn't get the hype that other local courses get, but it's such a great place to play a round. For starters, it's pretty easy. Shorter par 5's and 2 very driveable par 4's. The greens are not as fast as some other spots, but that just helps the score.
The course does have some challenging holes and spots, but I would expect to play well if playing here.
Always pleasant staff and if the weather is serviceable, the course is likely looking great.
Wolf Creek Golf Course - Links
Played On 09/20/2014Not the star, but could be.
This course is newer, but is really coming into its own. Anybody who can't get on the awesome "Old Course" should embrace playing the Links. It's definitely a good test, as it is looong...but is really a great layout. A lot of elevation changes for a "links" course, but still the rolling fairways, bunkers and tough greens you'd expect.
Worth the drive and the very reasonable price.
Lacombe Golf and Country Club
Played On 09/02/2014Always a good day
Aside from pace of play being a touch slow, course (especially greens) in very good shape. Checking in and getting out was extremely easy.
Alberta Springs Golf Resort
Played On 08/23/2014So green, great course.
Just to get it out of the way, this course is cart path-only for those that ride. It can create some hassles in club selection if your ball lands on the other side of the fairway.
BUT, because of that rule, the course is absolutely always in great shape. Never seen a blade of grass out of place. Visually the course is awesome, and it plays the same. Great test with a some chances to take a risk and reap reward.
River Bend Golf Course
Played On 08/15/2014Always a treat
A very fair and well-maintained course. Definitely the best course in Red Deer (that allows anybody to play there). There's a reason why so many big-name tournaments are held there, lots of challenge with water and trees, but still a very fair challenge. Wildlife can definitely be seen here, have spotted a mom and baby moose and groups of deer.
Great course, but dealing with the pro-shop staff is almost always a depressing experience. Just no enthusiasm at all.
