Cheraw State Park Golf Course
Played On 01/06/2019Good course, but needs rangers
Good course. You can tell they’ve had a ton of rain this year. Bunkers were flooded and unplayable. The greens are very healthy and a touch slow.
The biggest problems for this place are:
- There wasn’t no ranger presence anywhere
- There were more clowns on this course than I’ve ever seen. Guys screaming, blasting music from their carts, an EIGHTSOME I got behind, etc... it’s really a shame. The course was enjoyable, but these issues listed above really need to be fixed.
Riverwood Golf Club - Deer Run/Riverview Course
Played On 11/06/2017Decent track, awful greens
Was not a bad layout for a low handicapper. The greens are extremely grainy/bumpy and slow. For that reason alone, I wouldn't return. It was impossible to make putts on those surfaces.
Westport Golf Course
Played On 09/28/2016Bad layout
For first-timers, this golf course is a big question mark. There are many tee shots and approach shots where you have no idea where to hit or how much club to hit. The course was rough around the edges, with the greens being in decent shape.
The 500 Club
Played On 06/24/2016Good condition, below average layout
The vent greens were in pretty good shape even though they weren't fast. It's summer and expected. The fairways have come in nicely as well. I'm just not a fan of the design. Hole #7 should be demolished - a 270 yard carry from the back tees to ~20 paces of fairway, where anything left or right is dead. It's a horrible hole. Several other holes are below average on the course.
Tanglewood Golf Club - Reynolds Course
Played On 06/21/2016Great Value!
Very solid course with lots of elevation change. Fairways could have used a little more grass, but that's nitpicking. Loved the bent greens even though they were slightly slow. I'll be back.
Silo Run Golf Course
Played On 06/10/2016Well-kept, bad design
The greens were pretty dang good, especially for the price of the course. The front side was great. The back nine is without a doubt the goofiest 9 holes I've ever played. A shame for what it could be.

I love playing Scotch Hall. It is one of my top 3 favorite courses in NC. The greens are always in superb condition! The wind is always a factor and makes this place very difficult, so choose your tees wisely. Good luck on the 5th hole!
The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club
Played On 03/30/2016Bad Design
This course just stays too wet. If it rained within the last 2 months, it is guaranteed to be a swamp. The course is tough overall, which I like, but just can't get past the layout of it. Skip and go play Chapel Ridge or something else in the area.
Umstead Pines Golf & Swim Club at Willowhaven
Played On 05/05/2014Decent track
I had been looking forward to playing here for a while and finally got the opportunity. The layout is tight on the front - actually cramped on several holes. Conditions of the course were just okay. Not sure where some other reviewers got the greens were "FAST" or "slick" but they were not quick at all when I played. Enjoyed the back side. Course is very short.
Linville Falls Golf Club
Played On 06/25/2013Great layout, spotty conditions, poor staff.
I enjoy playing Linville Falls. I think the layout is excellent, but wish it was in better condition. BE SURE TO PRINT OFF YOUR RECEIPT AND SHOW THEM AT THE DESK!!! On every Golfnow booking before, all I've had to do was book it and they were sent an email and our names were down upon arrival to the course. However, Linville Falls has no computer, so they can't verify it. The man behind the counter was extremely rude, stating that we could not play if I didn't somehow prove to him I booked it and that it was not his problem. He offered me a phone number I could use to call Golfnow. Luckily I had an iPod in the car where I had pulled up the reservation before I left home. Not sure how many golf courses do not have a computer whatsoever to be able to verify these things, but this one does not.
Crooked Creek Golf Club
Played On 4/5/2013Clueless Staff
Went out on a Friday afternoon as a single. There were maybe 8 cars in the parking lot. After breezing through the first 7 holes with no problem, I got to the 8th tee (which is also by the clubhouse) and there was a terrible backup. After the group ahead refused to let me pass, I went in the golf shop at the turn. The man inside told me he let several groups go off the 8th tee right in front of me because those groups wanted to play the back side instead of the front. (Why he didn't send them off 10, I have no idea. Regardless, you don't put golfers in front of those already on the course and slow them down.) That is the most rude and disrespectful thing a golf course can do, and after offering nothing to make it right, I left. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO CROOKED CREEK!
Country Club of Whispering Pines - Pines Course
Played On 12/4/2012Greens in very good shape.
Golf course played longer than the 6,500 on the scorecard due to the rough and the overseeding of the fairways. Greens are quite undulating and anything above the hole was was difficult to put a good stroke on due to the speed. Not the best course in the world, but for <$25, it's a good deal.
Thanks for the review and feedback, Brett. We're sorry your experience wasn't above average and we hope this wont't deter you from coming back and giving us a second chance.
