Poor course, worse ownership

Oh where do I even start. This course hasn't had competent leadership/ownership since about 2011. Soap operas have been written about less scandalous stories than the management of this place. The greens were actually green sometime circa 2013. They have been bare ground ever since. The greens would actually be better if they were just sand. It's that bad. Never have I seen a course that was actually open in this bad of shape. "WildWeed" would be a drastic improvement, as that would imply that green plant matter is actually present on the property.

Last year, the current ownership sold the pro shop, locker rooms, and restaurant to the Seineyard. The current pro shop is a trailer with a structurally deficient half-finished deck that backs up to the pond. The practice range was demolished to build a RV park. The practice green behind the old pro shop has fallen into the same disrepair as the rest of the course.

In spite of all the issues we, the regular players, had a glimmer of hope in 2016 when two very nice people agreed to lease the course and begin making much needed improvements. I use the term improvements loosely, as they were merely attempting to get it back to a playable state.
Unfortunately, it became clear the situation they walked into when, not only, the fuel tanks were dry(and on a COD basis with the vendor), the electricity was about to be cut off, and the lease on the carts was severely delinquent, but also, the main well pump for irrigation was irreparably damaged.

Over the the winter 2017, they achieved positive growth of the Bermuda greens, which is quite a feat considering it goes dormant. Things were looking up. The course was improving by leaps and bounds. Tee boxes were rebuilt, the yardage markers were re-calibrated, and players were appreciating the attention being paid to the course. Unfortunately, this progress wasn't to last. Construction of the RV park on the former practice range began to have severe consequences on the condition of the course. Twice in March 2017, the construction work rendered the irrigation system of the course inoperable. The water lines had been cut as well as the power. Irrigation was restored by the course personnel, much to the chagrin of the ownership, who repeatedly sent threatening text messages to the greens keeper over the course of a few days. The water had been cut again within a week.

In an affront to common sense, the ownership claims that there is no need to water the course in early spring, which is THE growing season for bermuda grass. It's obvious the ownership meant to undermine the efforts of the course management by any means necessary, purely on the grounds of ego.
Who wants to admit failure when your lessee is doing a better job?

To the detriment of every golfer in wakulla county, this insanity has continued, and, as a result, we have decided to send our dollars outside the county, either to Saint James Bay in carabelle, or to any number of courses in Tallahassee that care about their players.

It's a sad, sad state of affairs, but for Wakulla county golfers, it is a fact of life.
