Coweta Club at Arbor Springs Plantation
Played On 08/25/2018Disappointing
I have played this course several times and enjoy the challenge. Its a fairly tight course with many risk/reward shot opportunities and small greens. Generally speaking, all previous trips have been favorable, but it had been several years since playing the course so I was looking forward to the round. Quickly it was apparent the course has fallen on tough times. Poor grounds-keeping maintenance - traps not in raked or even in decent (material) condition....fairways dry and patchy...cart paths crumbling and buckled. Couple that with an abbreviated range, shoddy old range ball and a lock of a cart person on a Saturday morning. Not looking to return.
Bear's Best Atlanta
Played On 07/08/2018Excellent if you get a deal
One of the better courses in Atlanta. Usually in great condition. Greens were perfect today. Course is relatively easy in the front, more difficult on the back. Jack’s replicas are similar, but not exactly as good as the real holes. Bunkers at 225 off the tee on almost every hole - typical Nicklaus. Cart girl could have come through more often.
The Frog at the Georgian
Played On 07/04/2018Consistently very good
Course is in excellent shape. Fabio did a great job for all skill levels....trouble if you stray too far, rewards if you can pound the driver and hit some tight wedges. Greens are very receptive - but too slow IMHO....had a lot of trouble getting the ball to the cup and the breaks virtually disappeared with the slow speed. Clubhouse is more than adequate - good place for a drink afterward.
Reunion Country Club
Played On 04/28/2018Solid, top tier course
Greens rolling smith and fast. Fairways need to green up - the cold weather is holding back any lushness. Tee boxes and the range need a little love. Great practice area. Layout is challenging.
Governor's Towne Club
Played On 11/21/2015Perfect afternoon
A rare GN tee-time opened up so my golf buddy and I teed it up on a Saturday afternoon. Clubhouse is under renovation and is understandably beat up. Greeted in the parking lot with a cart. Even after weeks of rain, the grass range was in excellent conditions with sighted flag yardages and a cleaning station for the clubs. Large putting area and the greens were very smooth and quick, and remarkable consistent and unblemished all day. Course was very interesting with a combination of short and long homes, doglegs and forced carry with the occasional water to vary the challenge. Layout is one of the better in the region - need to think through every tee-ball to take advantage of the short-cuts. Bunkers were well maintained and we rarely saw anyone else out on the course. Will be back. Can't wait to see the coarsen the spring as it's terrain and foliage was great, although mostly dormant.
Aviara Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2015Put it in the bucket list.
Staff were courteous and effcient. Practice facilities were excellent, but wee hit off the mats - likely due to the drought conditions and water restrictions course was remarkable....layout was challenging and the flora was incredible. Greens were a little slow, but with all he undulation you wouldn't want them any faster. Make sure you put it near the pin - some greens are enormous.
Bear's Best Atlanta
Played On 06/07/2015Don't overpay - or believe the hype
This is a good golf course with a variety of challenging holes, but it's not in the elite group of Atlanta courses and certainly not worthy of a $100ish green fee. We got a special on golfnow - otherwise we would have played elsewhere. Tee boxes are weak - some being rebuilt and a couple others are uneven. Range is shot....they need to manage the turf allocation better. Or relate people to mays during poor weather conditions. The range turf was similar to windy ridge. Greens get an A although they were slower than I would have expected. Otherwise almost completely healed from aeration and very true. 5/6 bunkers were in great shape, one was beachy. Slope from blues is misleading as the course plays short...not deserving of 137. Clubhouse is weak 80's architecture and oriented for large groups and banquets. Pro shop is stocked and the starter and cart girls were polite and present.....although was a little disappointed that a 4:30 Sunday start led to a 4h20m round. Shouldn't have been waiting on shot after shot. A top dollar course should ensure a 4 hour round - any decent private club would tolerate nothing less.
The Georgia Club - Chancellors Red/Black Course
Played On 05/25/2015Predictably Stellar
Making the trip from Buckhead (55 mins) is worth the effort. Bunkers raked, greens are among the best in the city and the staff is helpful, courteous and abundant. Played 36 holes and the pace was pretty good considering the Holiday and Member event in the morning. Course challenges and rewards - most doglegs can be cut or carried from the tee. The greens play firm and accurate.
Crystal Falls Golf Club
Played On 11/20/2014One of the best courses North
On a par with Woodmont, but slightly more challenging layout. And less crowded, although that could be a function of the time of year/weather. Great practice area, large putting green and all of the holes are engaging. Love the layout, although 16 had a really tight landing area - borderline unfair in the winter with the roll...
Wolf Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/13/2014Big changes with hidden gem
Played this course 7-8 years ago and it was a rough muni I need of love, fertilizer and a ground crew. What a change! Fairways are plush, borderline perfect. I felt guilty taking divots. Greens are rolled and unblemished....a little bit slow, but very very nice, perhaps the best in the metro area other than private clubs. Also enjoyed pace of play for a (perfect weather) Wednesday. 2hr 15mins as a single. Will definitely be back....almost didn't want to review - I don't want to share.
The Georgia Club - Chancellors Red/Black Course
Played On 05/26/2014Worth the drive
Living in Buckhead our group usually plays 30-45 mins away. This course is almost an hour, but is well worth the drive. Conditions are the best in the region...fairways were velvety but allowed for a bit of roll on well struck drives. Greens were firm and rolled true. Bunkers were all consistent...raked and consistent depth. Layout is challenging, allowing for conservative and aggressive shot making. Played from Silver tees (~6600 yards) and never really had long approaches unless strayed wide on dog-legs. But had wedges when the right lines were hit off the tee, Only complaint was lack of F&B...on Memorial Day. They should have had a cart girl with sandwiches and cold drinks on such a busy day.
Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/24/2014Firm and Fast
Great course layout - play this course regularly. When the weather heats up it can get very fast as they don't irrigate it well. Greens are in great shape, but the fairways are thin from lack of rain. Monster drives but really need to pinch the wedges to take advantage. They close the 19th hole at 5pm on Saturdays??? bummer for a post round snack and drink.
BridgeMill Athletic Club
Played On 05/04/2014Will be back...very nice setup
First time to Bridgemill...live in Buckhead and it was very easy to get to. The practice facility is excellent...bunker, chipping green, putting green made for a thorough warm-up. The course layout is excellent. We played with regulars so we had a bit of navigational assistance, which helped quite a bit. Played from the member tees. Can't whack a driver on every hole...it is important to get the right lines as tee balls in the wrong side of the fairway sometimes roll into awkward approach situations. And on a couple occasions into the rough. Lots of tiered greens make the approach important or very difficult to putt close to the hole for tap-ins. Greens are perfect and the bunkers were well maintained. The winter was tough on the fairways and they aren't where they should be, but based on the level of maintenance elsewhere, they should be fine in a few weeks with some rain. Will be back as for the money, it's a much better deal than Reunion, Chateau, Woodmont or Cobblestone. Top course on the north side that isn't private.
Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/24/2014Best greens south of Atlanta
These guys really know how to manage their greens. The condition is spectacular . This is a great course, challenging and able to get to the par 5s in two with perfect shots. 4-6 are the toughest holes....love this track.
Reunion Country Club
Played On 7/13/2013Great place to spend an afternoon
Excellent practice facility to warm up with...great layout, and well maintained. several tough holes on the back keep you grinding. Should change the greens to bermuda...the bent grass gets too soft with all the rain and burns when it's hot. They're OK now.
Woodmont Golf & Country Club
Played On 7/5/2013Worth the drive
We've have a ridiculous amount of rain and the course took it all. Perfect greens as usual. Probably the best public greens in Atlanta. Fantastic layout - only RTJ Jr course in the area. Great risk/reward. Good long holes, elevation changes and 3s. one of the best in the north side of the city. Top it off, the staff is a professional as they come.
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
Played On 6/30/2013Excellent...as usual
Very well maintained course. Greens have rebounded perfectly from micro-perf aeration two weeks ago. They roll true but a little slow...course is well maintained as usual. Only knock was absence of a marshall - we waited a minute or two frequently as the group in front of us was meticulously slow and could not stay tight to the group in front of them. Love the layout and enjoy the service.
Smoke Rise Country Club
Played On 6/22/2013Weak
I had never played here and its positioning as a club with once-in-a-while Golfnow access was appealing. Their rate was commensurate wiht some of the other great courses I regularly play - Chateau, Reunion, Frog, Woodmont. Course was tight and in many cases overgrown. Had to shift to one side on a tee box to deal with a tree that was too old. Several if not many rough areas were washed out and turned to clay. Not a well maintained course that was expected. Won't be back until they get better groundskeeping crew.
Cobblestone Golf Course
Played On 4/13/2013Great layout
Excellent layout allows for risk taking. Greens are very true. Fairways are still dormant from the winter and the tee boxes do not drain well so they were in below acceptable state. Pace was pretty decent despite full course on perfect Friday afternoon.
Hi there we are so glad you enjoyed The Georgia Club on your round. We thank you for making the drive out too, happy to hear it was worth the drive. We hope to see you on your next round real soon!
