This is not a typical Florida course

I had the pleasure to play this course when we were in Orlando for the PGA show. Nick Faldo created a true masterpiece. The way he used the elevation changes and bunkering made for a very fun yet challenging day. The greens were firm and fast but held with well struck shots.

The club house is amazing. You forget that you are in Florida and are in Tuscany! The locker room facilities are world class and the dinner we had was very good.

This was a memorable golf experience.

Very tough Reese Jones layout

First I must say the new rye grass is coming in nicely. The fairways were soft and the greens were firm and held proper approaches. The new bunkers are very difficult. Once the sand settles and firms up they will be less difficult.

We played the championship tees during our round before the PGA show. The bunkering by Reese Jones makes this course difficult. Every hole other then the par 3s you have to make a choice. Lay back off the tee and have 190 or more into an elevated green with bunkers ready to catch a wayward approach or take on the bubkes and execute a near perfect drive between or over them. Your reward is a short iron and the ability to attack the pin.

Overall this is a very fun course. It would have been too easy from the white tees allowing us to bomb drives over all the trouble.

The facilities are great and the staff was friendly.

We would return!

This is why I don't like Pete Dye

I played here with my son in the PGA Family Championship. The event was amazing. The first round was on the Dunes Course.

It is important to note that I really don't like Pete Dye courses, especially the green complexes.

The lay out of the course was fine. Good shots taking aggressive lines was rewarded with shorter and simpler approach shots. That is typical of Pete Dye and I loved that aspect of the Dunes.

It is important to note that they just reopened the greens about a month ago. The need to get more play and mature. They are rock hard and every green is contoured like a Ruffles Potato Chip. Be prepared for well executed shots to spin off the green's multiple false fronts or have it rocket off the shoulder into a sand or grass bunker. Leave your green repair tool in your bag. You will not need it.

A Pete Dye Course I liked

As part of the PGA Family Championship, we played the Mountain course. The greens were just redone lie the Dunes but they are far more playable than the Dunes.

The back 9 closing holes are truly memorable. You work your way into the mountains and the views are amazing.

Off the tee, aggressive play is rewarded if you execute your shot.

Once the greens mature this course will be 5 star in my opinion.

An amazing layout in complete disrepair

I grew up playing Edgewood and played high school championship matches there in the late 90's. I always liked playing there. At 6700 yards from the blue tees it is a great test of golf.

I played it today. The course conditions are a disgrace. There is no differentiation between fairway and rough. There are bare spots in the fairway where grass should be growing. The greens are concrete and repel well struck shots. Bunkers have tons of rocks in them.

Sand Springs really needs to invest in this track to return to its glory!

Back at Nags Head after 12 years

I have played this course probably almost 100 times in my life, but this was my first time after being away for 12 years.

When we played the wind was very strong at least 25 mph out of the southwest.

This course is not long by today's standards. I only used driver off the tee 4 times on the par 5s. The course punishes wayward shots. If you can't keep it in play you will lose golf balls. It is a great shot makers course in the wind.

The conditions were great given the weather and the amount of play this course gets. The tee boxes and fairways are kept at a higher height to protect them from burn out. The greens were kept at a traditional links speed. First to protect them and second if they were cut and double rolled the wind would blow the ball off the green.

The staff were great and I can't wait to play it again.

This is a neat golf course

First of all this is not a championship golf course like TPC Myrtle Beach or Barefoot. This is a very fun golf course that pays homage to great golf holes from around the globe. The course was in good shape. The fairways and greens were very good. Some of the tee boxes are in rough shape and probably need to be aerated and reseeded.

This course would be great for a laid back round and a family outing.

Peak season prices with off season conditions

The layout was great. As a Palmer Signature course I could really enjoy the layout and the use of water hazards throughout the course.

The conditions were awful. The fairways were burnt out, the rough was bare in many spots and the greens were so inconsistent it was ridiculous.

It looks like the entire property needs refurbishment and update.

If we were charged $50-$60 for the round I would be ok with that. But at $150 I expected a whole lot more.

If you can, play this course twice

This course requires the experience of playing it a second time to get the best strategy down to make approaches work for you.

The contours of the green complexes are challenging.

Great conditions and great place.

Gimmicky golf course

Of the three courses at PGA Village this was the worst one head and shoulders.

I can overlook the gimmicky bunkering in the fairways and approaches. Most of the diabolical traps can easily be avoided.

The greens are just not designed for the firm and fast conditions we had while we were there along with the significant wind that hit the Treasure Coast during our stay.

The Dye course does not give you the option of running the ball up to the green. They are elevated and many have bunkers in front. The undulations when they are firm will propel your ball into awful collection areas surrounding the green.

It was a long day when I hit 15 greens but could only get the ball to stay on 4.

This is a golf experience

Sometimes in life you have to splurge. I did get the summer rate which made this a great value.

The Wynn staff know how to treat customers right. The facilities are world class at the resort.

Special shout out to David the caddy for our group. Unfortunately for me he had to spend more time with 2 players who had rough days. If he were exclusively my caddy I think I could have shot par or broken par. He really is a fine caddy.

The course is on the strip behind the hotel. As soon as I walked out onto the grounds I forgot I was in Vegas. It looks like North Carolina. A number of holes resemble holes on Shadow Creek which is awesome.

I would play it again it is a great time on the links.

This is a unique course

First off this course is not easy. After playing it once I would change the way I would play the course.

The course was in amazing shape. The greens were soft again from the monsoons that moves through. The views are amazing in Summerlin!

This course requires accuracy when approaching the greens. All greens have at least 1 false front protecting them.

I wish they would have a forecaddie to help guide groups around and help with the sight lines.

The facilities are first class and the staff were nice!

Fun round of golf

I really enjoyed my round at Bali Hai. For July the course was in great shape. It was very soft and cart path only due to a monsoon the night before.

I really enjoyed the lay out. The course starts very easy with a few holes of driver short iron. Then about 6 holes in the course begins to lengthen. There are several 450+ yard par 4s.

The views of the strip are pretty cool and definitely special to Vegas. I was in the first group off as a two ball and we played in 2.5 hours.

I did take a Par Mate caddy. Addison was fun to be around and performed well as a caddie. I would book a Par Mate again.

The staff was great!

Amazing course

If you have a chance be sure to take the opportunity to play this great Arnold Palmer Signature design. The conditions this year were some of the best in the Philadelphia Metro area. The team does a great job! Can't wait for next season!

Good course that needs TLC

I love the layout of Edgewood. I remember the days when it was a premier public course in NEPA. Those days are long gone. With a good capital investment the course can return to its former self.

Great course if you love slow play

Simply this course is not worth the time or money. Our round took 5.5 hours. Also be prepared to duck and cover as holes are so close together errant drives criss cross fairways all day. I won't return here.

Also they have major issues with drainage. Be prepared to lose a ball or two in the fairway.

Long day, poor conditions and unwelcoming staff

I played an interclub match at Five Ponds this past weekend. My first impression was when I arrived at the course an hour before my tee time. I was greeted by a woman at the pro shop and gave my name and she said rudely "You are late! Everyone is waiting for you!" Great first impression.

Second we were told by the Pro Shop staff that the course was in good shape. Good is a relative term in this case. The greens were very slow and still had unfilled aeration holes making them slow and bumpy. The bunkers are in need of a major refurbishment. They lack sand and are very inconsistent. The real disappointment had to be the fairways. Divots and bare spots were everywhere. Hitting the middle of the fairway should not lead to a difficult lie. Also the fairways are covered in goose droppings. Some holes are so bad that you could get a mud ball, but it is not mud!

The layout for this course is very tight. You will be peppered with balls from other holes and hear the yells of Fore! throughout your round.

The pace of play is dreadfully slow.

Here is a free tip, if you play a yellow golf ball switch to a white one for holes 10 and 18. These holes border the driving range and are littered with yellow range balls.

Too much hype

After hearing from plenty of golfers that I had to play Bulle Rock, I signed up to play in a tournament there. The tournament was cancelled but we were able to play for $90 with a $30 meal credit. The fact I only had to pay this discounted amount kept this from being a 2 star review.

First the course was in great shape. The fairways were great and the greens rolled true.

Unfortunately I did not care for the Pete Dye design. If you hit the ball long and straight you will find yourself in trouble. The contours of the fairways will repel good shots into trouble.

Also the course gives you these odd green repair tools. The staff makes a big deal about them but the ball scars on the green show that they do not work. On the par threes it looks like the surface of the moon with all of the half repaired ball marks.

One of the Best in PA

I had the opportunity to play the Old Course at Stonewall. This course belongs in the same league of Merion, Oakmont, Aronimink and Philadelphia Cricket Club. Driving the ball is critical, not that the rough or bunkers are overly difficult, but the greens are very small with trouble lurking everywhere if you miss your approach.

The greens rolled perfectly and true. They were very fast but fair.

The Old Course will be in the national spot light when it hosts the US Mid Am in September.
