Moorpark Country Club - The Canyon Crest Golf Course
Played On 09/02/2017Fun Round Creekside-Canyon
This is probably one of the nicest courses in the city- we played at 2 on 9/2 and drove out from Los Angeles during a heatwave and brush fires in LA...temperature dropped by 7-8 degrees out here and course was deserted. Fantastic pace of play! Appears might be doing some fairway aeration but nothing to hurt a round. Creekside has a couple of carries that are kinda absurd for amateur golfers, wish they could make them more reasonable. Otherwise prepare yourself for a treat if you drive out to Moorpark for this gem with 27 holes!
Angeles National Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2017Hard course!
This is a tough course. Gave only 4 stars for pace of play because they booked a beginner to play with our twosome, which really slowed us down but they left at the turn and we had no pace of play problems after that. I wish the fairways were better seeded, but the greens we really in great shape and challenging. Aeration begins 5/29 and 30th, which is too bad will take this one out of commission for 30 days so be aware!
Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort - Eisenhower Course
Played On 05/14/2017Hard course, lots of hills
This is a beautiful course, perfect conditions, I just always forget how much up and down the hills it is which are VERY steep. Seems like they want to hit you with all the gimmicks on almost every hole which adds to the difficulty...narrow t boxes, holes all average longer than normal 18 holes, seems you are always trying to get up a hill or hitting off a downward slope...so if you are a REALLY good golfer or play here frequently you will score quite well, but for us average folks this was brutal and while somewhat fun after the 18th I felt the course beat me up and won in the end.
Knollwood Golf Course
Played On 04/30/2017Never play this course!!!
Sorry this a long review but this course should not be played by anyone that wants to enjoy a round of golf. This course cannot seem to get its act together and after the poor management support due to the ill mannered 10 man group in front of us, we not only couldn't enjoy our round it felt entirely unsafe from the 6th hole until around the 14th. Because this course allows for groups of 5, a group booked back to back for 10 and then there was a gap of two or three starts for another 3 people. They tried to consolidate their group, but the starter refused and kept everyone in their assigned booking. The 3 people were so angry about not being able to join their group they left. When we caught up to the group around the 6th hole, we went up to apologize and let them know we had no control over the start problem and we never complained (we were just sitting in our cart watching the drama but didn't dare get involved - it was VERY heated and contentious). Anyway, our apology wasn't allowed, and they blamed US for stopping the group from playing together, which we wouldn't have cared. They were very aggressive towards us from that point, where the 10 would all tee off together and putt out together, virtually slowing things to a crawl. They wanted to punish us for something we had no control over, had they just tee'd off I'm sure we could have shifted around out on the course, but we can't control the starter. After the turn the troublemakers eventually slowly dropped out and the group whittled down from 10 to 5 by around the 14th (I guess they couldn't handle their own slow pace!). We had complained to the management at the turn, but NOBODY came out to talk to anyone. Because of their aggressive push back when we wanted to apologize, we had no desire to engage them further since they were not nice. We weren't going to be bullied off a golf course so we played to finish, but it made for a very unpleasant day with alot of stress. When I complained to the manager he offered a free round but I wanted my money back!!! This course was already being tested to see if the pace would be decent and all this other drama added in, why would I come back even for free? I called to request a refund afterwards since nothing happened from my first request, and have still not seen a refund or heard back from the manager after leaving a voicemail. I will never play this course again, will discourage ANYONE from playing here especially on weekends (in addition to groups of 5 seems its just full of hacks that don't know what they are doing).r - Balboa/Encino is just down the street and is a much better golf experience in the public courses overall. Whatever you do, don't play here since it will take you 6 hours to play, and if you complain they won't do anything to move things along. If they wonder why they need to beg people to play here, maybe if we all stop they will read some reviews and fix it! Course is way too nice to keep away the better golfers, but you won't find anyone playing here after they play here once, especially on a weekend.
Hansen Dam Golf Course
Played On 02/06/2016Becoming worst managed course in LA City
I've played this course 3 times within the last month. Last weekend used a hotdeal t time for 12:24. T off 45 minutes late. All other days I played previous were also very late, anywhere from 20 minutes to the 45 minute this past weekend. Groups had no concept of their slow play, putting and marking 6 inches from the hole. Groups playing from the black that should be playing from the whites. By the 10th hole, after 2 hrs and 45 minutes to play 9 holes, it got even slower. Barely finished in with minimum light around 6 pm. Used to be a favorite, now this course goes to the bottom of my list. I thought Los Verdes was the worst, this course is becoming the new Los Verdes.
Los Verdes Golf Course
Played On 06/13/2015Worst pace of play on any course anywhere
This is my last time playing this course since multiple attempts to come back meet with the same issue...SIX HOUR ROUND. This is the worst pace of play on any course I have every played, and every time I come here its the same thing. This course either needs to book fewer times on the weekend, or get an active marshal that moves people along. Every t box on the back 9 was back up two groups, taking around 10-15 minutes at each t box. There are plenty of courses on Golfnow for $52 green/cart fee that are just as enjoyable and play in 4.5 hours on the weekend. Maybe if people stopped playing here they would get the message, because all they say in the front office is "oh yeah, it gets backed up on the weekends"...FIX IT THEN!
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 05/29/2015FAN OF THE DAY!!!
Played here on Friday 5/29, booked a two player round for myself and my nephew who is in the Navy (discount to active military). Went to check in when I arrived and was greeted with the fact I was chosen as "fan of the day"! My round was free, received a sleeve of balls, free lunch and two free non alcoholic beverages, and nephew got 1/2 off his lunch. Awesome way to start the day, staff was awesome and posted a great sign in the lobby and pro shop entrance!
I had read about this course, was unique in the desert setting due to all the pine trees, but landscaping everywhere was beautiful and course conditions were EXCELLENT, from tboxes, fairways, bunkers and greens. The par 3s were really fun, and course was overall very playable for any level of golfer. It really didn't feel like a "desert" golf course, but a hybrid if that makes sense.
Normally I like playing the Phoenician, but after this experience I think my new favorite course in PhoenixScottsdale (I try to play there 3-4 times a year) is The Raven!
I love golfnow, but they had me as a female, lol...didn't realize until my first review posted! I changed my generic screen name and updated my profile...but really wanted to give this course the attention it deserves! Formerly Robert8758634
