Easy course with a few issues

This course was a lot of fun to play. The course is completely flat with no blind shots, but the staff did their best at making it more difficult by putting pin placements behind every possible obstacle. Otherwise the course is quite easy. Great for beginners.

Fairways had recently been aerated, including a few which had not had their cores vacuumed or broken down. For those that were clear, they were in great shape, though there were quite a few wet and swampy areas which had me confused as it had not rained recently.

Greens had clearly been aerated maybe a week earlier and were growing back nicely. I had a few weird roles from aeration holes that hadn't fully grown back, but not enough to seriously affect the outcome of my round.

Tee boxes were generally in good shape, though there were a few that were quite chewed up. Most chewed up boxes did have sand and seed in the divots, so kudos to the players and staff for keeping up with that.

The course is full of water hazards. I enjoyed the layout quite a bit, especially the par 3 over the water (11th hole maybe?) and the last 200 yards of the 18th.

Excellent, challenging course

Let me start with the point that the turf crew were aerating the greens when I golfed, so I did not get a great performance out of my putting game much to my chagrin as I was in the zone on everything else.

The course was in fantastic shape with some truly fantastic holes. The tees were in great shape despite the fact that it is at the end of the season. There were several tees that had been re-sodded in parts and appeared relatively recent. It is nice to see a Super take that much care heading into the end of the season.

Fairways were lush and had a great mix between being narrow and wide.

The course is quite challenging, at least for a relative novice like myself, with a good bit of elevation changes, numerous forced carries and well placed traps and bunkers. If you aren't on it, you can lose quite a few balls easily.

I got a great deal through Golfnow, but even at regular price, I will most definitely be coming back for more rounds.

A few issues, but value makes it worthwhile.

Overall the course is fun with several great holes. My 18 hole round clocked in exactly at 4 hours. There had been some heavy rain two days earlier and it sprinkled off and on the day I golfed, so that may explain some of the negative points I will touch on later.

If you can hit your drives straight and with some distance, you should shoot a decent round as most second shots to the green are unobstructed. If you have difficulties shooting straight, you are in for a long round as trees are plentiful and hug the fairways with very few holes to shoot out of. Additionally, the grass thins extremely quickly to dirt in the rough making it even that much more difficult for a decent recovery shot. There are a few holes with elevation changes, including several blind tee shots to keep things interesting.

There are several hazards which require a forced carry, including four if I recall correctly coming off of tee shots. The fairways were in great shape, and appeared to have been mowed within the last day.

Greens were by and large good. There were several quarter sized bare patches where ball marks had been incorrectly repaired, but did not have any effect on the roll of the ball. The green speed was inconsistent. Some greens were firm and quite fast, while others felt almost mushy when you walked on them. It made putting an interesting affair.

Tees were a disaster. I cannot recall a tee box that I would deem as acceptable. It was a mixture of mostly crabgrass, large bare patches and divots. The tees also did not appear to have been mowed in quite some time, to the extent that several tees had grass that was almost the same height as the surrounding turf. I had difficulties getting my ball to stay on the tee on par 3 tee boxes.

As I stated, there had been considerable rain two days prior to my round, so that might explain some of the issues with the green speeds and tee boxes. What I found utterly unacceptable was the bunkers and traps had not been drained. Most bunkers had some water in them, and more than a few were temporary ponds. My playing partners enjoyed dropping their balls outside of those bunkers.

I will give the course the benefit of the doubt and chalk some of these issues up to the recent weather. Even if these issues are common in fair weather, the inexpensive cost would bring my back a few more times, though it certainly would not be a regular haunt.

Good value, but not serious golfing

The driving range is in good shape with a decent number of mats being in the shade. A medium bucket (64 balls) cost $9.00.

The par 3 left a lot to be desired, but to be fair I am comparing it to the par 3 courses I used to golf in Denver which were full blow courses. The longest hole is 110 yards and only three of the nine are more than 100 yards. Everything else i would classify as an approach shot. I had problems as I was consistently over shooting the greens with my lob wedge, which other than my putter was the only club I used. You shoot from worn out tee mats as opposed to a tee box or mowed grass.

The greens are just shortly cut rough grass. It is not a proper green in any way. Trying to read and subsequently putt on the surface was a disaster. The surface was like trying to putt on rough berber carpet.

I lost interest in the course quite quickly so I just practiced my Mickelson flop shots the whole time. Additionally, there is no drinking water anywhere. Thankfully i brought a water bittle, but ran out quickly. You have to pay at a vending machine if you want water. I was there when it was 92+ and with the humidity it was brutal.

On the plus side, the round did only cost $8.50. So if you are just looking to get out, hit a few balls and goof off, or if you have kids that are just learning to play, then it is well worth the money. If you are looking for anything half serious, don't waste your time.

Solid for beginners and advanced players

I have had the fortunate pleasure of never having paid for a round of golf on any of their four courses (3 9-hole courses and 1 9-hole par 3 course), but having played all courses multiple times.

The state of the course, even during the hottest parts of the summer is generally in great shape. Greens are quite large and tend to be a bit slower than other courses, but certainly not terrible. Golfers tend to be terrible about fixing their divots and ball marks. Definitely walk the ground before you take your putt.

Fairways are generally wide and the creek side has a fair bid of undulation with several blind shots and hazards. There are several forced carries and some large elevation changes. Beginners might struggle a bit, but it should prove to be a fun course for advanced players.

My chief complaint with all four courses is the pace of play. It is glacially slow. The course is quite long and spread out, so if you are behind some walkers, try your very best to pass them. My rounds in a cart typically clock in just shy of 5 hours.

Forgiving course that provides a few challenges

This is the course I typically played. The course is old and the fairways are narrow, but most fairways run next to another fairway. The rough between fairways is mostly open, so shooting from another fairway is generally forgiving. The course is mostly flat, though there are a few blind shots. There are few hazards (1 pond, 3 creeks) but mostly you will deal with bunkers and an occasional trap. There are not an over abundance of them so most approach shots, especially for beginners are quite forgiving.

The greens and fairways were, and generally are in great shape, especially for it being a muni course and the amount of play they see. Unlike some other muni courses in the areas, ball marks on the greens were not a major issue. Fairways do tend to have some monster divots, though the maintenance crew appear to stay on top of it for the most part.

The course has a large volume of rounds played every year. Tee times are at a premium because of the course's location to houses and businesses and the fact that it only has 18 holes, but even with this I can typically walk a full round in about 3 hours. Very rarely have I run into longer rounds. The marshalls do a good job at keeping the pace moving.
