Starboard at Harborside International Golf Center
Played On 09/04/2023Should have read the reviews before booking
I should have read the most recent reviews before booking this round. The course was in horrendous shape and such a disappointment. I'm not sure if management just let things go, but I couldn't believe how bad it was compared to the last time I played. The cart paths are AWFUL and borderline dangerous with potholes and loose asphalt. Sand traps have big rock pebbles in there that will scratch your wedges. The GPS on the carts lock you out while ON the cart path (clearly not calibrated correctly). Some of the other sand features had massive large weeds in them. The tee boxes had grass that looked sickly and patches of weeds. Such a shame to see a once-great course fall into this condition. Absolutely not worth over $100 for this round.
Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
Played On 04/22/2023Legitimately one of the worst golf experiences i've ever had
Course management should be truly ashamed of themselves. We played on a Saturday afternoon and calling it overbooked would be putting it nicely. We got through the first two holes just fine but ran into a 10 cart log-jam on the third teebox and pace never picked up from there. We walked off the course after playing 11 holes in 4 hours. To make matters worse the course had no water in any of the jugs and the halfway house was closed (yes, on a Saturday afternoon). I would never come here again. It starts at the top, figure it out.
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 09/11/2021Terrible Experience
I'll start off by saying I've played this course 4 or 5 times before and never once had an issue. You know what you're gonna get: a challenging course at a fair price just outside of Chicago. This was one of the worst experiences I've had golfing in a long time.
I arrived 40 minutes early so I could hit the range with my group. We were on the range with plenty of time to go and a ranger drives up to us and tells us we're on the tee box and we need to get moving. I check my phone and we don't tee off for another 14 minutes, but we make our way over to see what the deal is. Before we can even make it to the tee, the cart girl stops us to check and make sure we don't have any outside alcohol on us. That's when I remember the last time I was here, she went into my cart while I was putting and checked on my White Claw and made me dump it out. I get it, you can't bring outside alcohol, but come on. We are still buying drinks from the course and there's no reason to get hostile over a seltzer.
Anyways, we get to the starter and I ask what the deal is since we still have 11 minutes until we tee off and he says get to the teebox because we have to go now. There is nothing I despise more than being rushed which is why we got there so early, yet here we are being rushed to tee off by the starter 11 minutes early. No chance to chip or roll a couple putts.
We finally get to the teebox and see that our two playing partners we were paired with have already hit and are sitting in their cart waiting for us to go, acting like we were running 10 minutes behind. Just a very rushed and hectic start to the round.
Unfortunately, that wasn't even the worst part as we get to the #1 green and see the greens have been punched for the season and were given no warning. It was IMPOSSIBLE to putt. There were punched holes and marble sized clumps of dirt all over the green. We were given no warning when we booked online, nor at the counter when paying, nor by the starter who was too focused on rushing us over 10 minutes ahead of schedule. We asked the starter at the turn how long the greens have been like this and he goes "like WHAT?".
Overall just a terrible experience that left a very bitter taste in our groups mouth. I've played here enough to expect better and I won't be coming back.
Mill Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2018In dire need of some type of restoration
Played this early in the 2018 season. From my understanding the course was closed for a period of time and recently reopened.
The course conditions were pretty poor. The greens on each hole need help and the cart paths are a nightmare. This course used to be very nice at one time but is no longer in the same shape.
The driving range is a total joke. When you're hitting you dont even know what to hit or aim at and its VERY narrow. You also have to hit on the crappiest mats I've ever seen.
As for the layout of the course, a majority of the holes dont even make sense. If you're a beginner, it's not worth even trying to play this course. My foursome and I were hovering around a GPS phone app on every single tee box just to see where we even needed to aim. There is one or two true driver holes on the entire course; the rest of the holes we only used irons or hybrids from the teebox. On top of that, there is absolutely zero forgiveness on any hole. Long cattails and thick woods are all throughout the course and there are lots of risky shots you need to take with very little reward. Not to mention standing water in the bunkers. You really need to just keep advancing the ball with a low iron to eventually reach the green. You should bring an extra box of crappy balls that you dont mind losing.
The pace of play was fine as we were quite literally the only group out on the course on a saturday afternoon with good weather conditions. If this course does not get the makeover it desperately needs, I do not see it lasting much longer.
Hughes Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/08/2016Only played due to the cheap price. Would not go back.
This was a very average course with just okay conditions. The rough was way too long (we were searching for balls the entire round). Some holes didn't even make sense/seemed forced or squeezed in, and the fairways were not that great (clean, but the quality of the grass was poor). The pace of play was awful. There was a 3-some holding up 3 groups at one hole. At one point we had 6 carts lined up to tee off on the 15th hole.
I only played due to a hot deal we found of GolfNow. Other than that, I would not play again. I would rather pay an extra $10-$20 for a course with holes that make sense and where the rough was cut properly.
Blackstone Golf Club
Played On 10/02/2016Awesome Hidden Gem
I played on a Sunday afternoon while it was drizzling. Practically nobody was on the course so the pace was amazing. The course is very unique and was in amazing shape especially for mid fall. Would play this course again with no hesitation. Well worth the drive.
