North at Daytona Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/08/2016Overzealous Ranger
Visiting and unfamiliar with course...no clear direction to 17 or 18 so my partner and I fell slightly behind. Ranger came up to us on 18 as we were making approach shot to green to tell us that a 4some "was waiting" behind us...really? Disgruntled locals...no excuse for that warning IMO.
BTW...played in 3:40...
Course was ok...green fairly fast...course in pretty good shape altho wet from recent rains.
If I visit DB again...won't be coming back.

Played On 08/27/2015Donald Ross Course Worth Playing
Good place to play for the history of the design if nothing else. Small greens and some blind shots with bunkers in play. Played with a member who knew the course, but recommend driving up on some holes to see the layout first.
Course was in good shape altho some of the tee boxes needed a bit of work. Greens were challenging. Well worth a play.
Tiger's Eye Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation
Played On 08/21/2015Greens Need Work
Of the 4 courses in this complex, Tiger's Eye is the most "secluded," i.e., no houses on some holes.
However, was disappointed in condition of greens...1 and 2 were really scarred...conditions got better on other holes, but some other greens were also in need of repair.
Otherwise, pace of play was great...looked like no one was on the course...maybe there was a reason (!). Fairways were ok as well.
Got a break on the rate, but seemed to much to me based on rates at other courses there.
Based on the more scenic aspects of the course, I would recommend it, just beware of the conditions of some of the greens.
Lockwood Folly Country Club
Played On 08/17/2015Scenic and Challenging
Course was in good shape...greens were fine. The front 9 seems to be a bit more scenic than back...except for 18 which has a nice view of the Lockwood River.
Also on a hot day there were marshals with ice and water during the day.
Thot the cost was a bit much for the course. Overall, pace was good and course has enough tees to cover the advanced and novice golfer.
Springdale Country Club
Played On 07/26/2015A Tale of Two Courses
Would rate this course about 3.5...maybe higher because of the views esp on front 9...but wasn't impressed with fairways and some tee boxes. On some holes it was hard to tell fairway from rough, but could be due to recent rain. Greens were is very good shape however.
Front 9 is hilly - a mountain course...Back 9 is in the valley...flatter and more wide open.
No one behind us all day on a Sunday morning...had a few groups in front, but they were moving.
The course bills itself as a "resort" but you don't pay resort rates for daily play.
Worth a try if in the Asheville, NC area.
Pendleton Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2015The good, the bad and the ugly
Good: course in good shape - fairways and greens good...challenging greens, but fun. Scenic course in central VA.
Bad: Not a course for beginners or high handicappers (IMO)....if you like lots of mounds, deep swales, and blind shots then this course is for you. On several holes there was no obvious entry to the green so forced to walk up or down steep slopes...thot it was a bit pricey for the experience.
Ugly: we played with 2 wounded warriors...one of whom was a beginner....we were keeping pace but on 13 an a-hole behind us hit a shot onto the green while we were putting...no apology...
Not a course I would play again, but overall the company and experience was positive.
Iron Forge at Penn National Golf Club & Inn
Played On 07/03/2015Old Forge Links
Played the Old Forge during July 4 weekend. Course is called a "links" course but just means it has no trees...or very few. There are a few blind shots but we managed to find the balls. It was in very good shape esp greens - which were fast. Was on a stay and play package but got rained out on Sat...definitely will come back.
Got a bit slow on the back 9 because of one group, but kudos to the marshal who got them moving...finished round in 4 hours (2 people).
One non-golf note: courses are located in a dry township so it's BYOB. Food is OK, but nothing special.
Reems Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/23/2015Hilly and Scenic
Played here on Sat of Mem Day weekend. Had a tourney going on at the same time so pace was very very slow...had to wait for every shot. However, course was in good shape...a few spots on greens could be improved, but overall an enjoyable round. Helpful to have some local knowledge before playing...lots of blind shots and steep drops which are unexpected if playing for the first time.
Deer Run Championship at Newport News Golf Club
Played On 04/25/2015Cardinal Course at Newport News Review
Gave this an overall "average" rating since course conditions weren't ideal. Greens were in very good shape but lots of bare spots off the fairway...some run off on a few holes - esp #8 where the approach to the green was in pretty bad shape. A few tee boxes could stand more grass as well. Some holes border I-64 and Ft Eustis Blvd so it's not a total "back to nature" expeience. Staff was very friendly and helpful and couldn't beat the rate. After the round, found the grille service to be a bit undermanned and disorganized but food and drink OK. All in all enjoyed playing the course.
The Windermere Club
Played On 05/09/2014Good Course for the Money
Course was extremely dry when I played due to lack of rain, but it was an enjoyable experience. Since fairways were dry, the ball rolled and rolled...that's not a complaint.
Water comes into play on several holes and as with many Dye courses, the layout is pretty challenging on some holes.
Would play again.
You must have caught him on a bad day or you're a total imbecile. I met him today and have never met a nicer, more personable starter in all my days of playing golf. He's been at the course for 16 years under different ownership so he must be doing something right!
Worst golfing experience of our lives. Randy, the starter, terrorized us off of the golf course, completely manic and threatened us saying "You better leave while you can." This was witnessed by two other Springdale employees - a situation I've never experienced in 20 years of golfing. STAY AWAY from this course unless you want to ruin your day.
