Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 08/05/2022Miserably slow play, ground is hard as a rock
Conditions are fair but very hard and dry. We couldn't get a tee into the ground. Greens are pretty rough. Fees are decent considering all that, however.
Pace of play was way way slow. Not in a hurry to come back, sorry to say.

Played On 07/31/2022Slow play and higher prices than quoted
The app quoted $36 for 18 holes, I pay the $2.49 fee, and the pro shop charged me another $39. That's over 15% higher than what the app listed. I could have called the course and paid that.
This app is worthless, to be honest. I realize it's only a few bucks, but this is the 2bd time it's screwed me.

Played On 09/12/2021Great staff, great condition, but bad back 9 layout
This is a really hard review to write, because this is really two golf courses. The staff is great, the conditions are pretty good for the summer, the price is right, but you get to hole # 11 and it's suddenly a completely different golf course. I've never understood why blind tee shots are en vogue. To me, it's just lazy course design. A cheap trick to make a hole harder. Holes 11, 12, 14, 15 are so obscured by trees to the point you really don't know where to aim, unless you've played here 10 times, I suppose. Hole 15 is a par 3, 205yds from the black. Which I think is long, but ok, that's fine. Then you walk up to the tee box and you cannot see the green. Absolutely zero part of it. Just bushes. Call me a whiner but I don't enjoy that sort of course design, I'm sorry.
For this reason I would not recommend a high handicapper try this course, or if so, stop at #10.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 08/09/2020Pretty rough "summer" condition
I realize it's mid-August, but still, the tees and fairway conditions were pretty sad. Dry, uneven, and patchy. The crabgrass hadn't been mowed for several days. Greens were ok however.
I like the layout fine, and the new driving range is great. Staff is very friendly. Price is fair, especially given the conditions, but I probably will not play again it until winter.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We regret the conditions you experienced during your round here at Starfire. Unfortunately, due to multiple circumstances, including a hotter and drier summer than usual, we have suffered a difficult transition this summer. Be assured that we are always working hard to ensure top conditions here at Starfire and everything will be in excellent condition again soon. Thank you for your positive feedback regarding the driving range and interaction with our staff. We look forward to seeing you again soon. As always, please feel free to reach out to me personally. Birdie Ranch at Silver Creek
Played On 07/13/2020Challenging layout, slow play
Course was in great condition The layout is fun and interesting.. Greens are smooth but very very sloped. Downhill putts are brutal! Stay below the hole, big-time.. The area also sees pretty high winds. Definitely not a course for beginners.
There was no beverage cart, so pack plenty of food and drinks.
Pace of play was very slow, unfortunately. Frustrating day. Not in a hurry to return, I'm sorry to say.

Played On 06/22/2018Great layout but awful summer conditions
I loved this course layout in the winter, but the fairways are absolutely baked right now. Brown, cracked, and ugly. I know it's the middle of June, but other courses charge less $ with greener tracks right now. Otherwise it was a good round.
Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
Played On 08/26/2017Good conditions. Simple, flat layout. But poor scheduling hampered our day.
This is an older style track, very flat, winding through and older, upscale neighborhood. No desert or Arizona scenery, it feels more like a course from back East. Tall trees and some water to be found on a few holes. Condition was good overall.
Pace of play, however, was terrible, especially for a summer round. First, I was called 2 hours ahead of my tee time to be politely told my start was pushed back 30 mins. It ended up being more than 45. Someone had overbooked two early tournaments. All tee times that day were shoved back and crammed into the afternoon, making the pace unbearably slow. I recently heard they laid off their tournament director, and it's obviously hurting their planning. Things happen, I understand, but I can't help feeling a bit put off, like a 2nd class customer to them. How about offering a free round, or a drink coupon, or something? I even had to pay for a bucket of warm up balls.
At least the price of the round was right, so maybe you get what you pay for. But I'm not in a hurry to play there again, unfortunately.
We love hearing about our golfers' experiences. Please tell us more about what you enjoyed during your round. Thanks for choosing Cave Creek Golf Course!
