Gray Plantation
Played On 11/25/2012A thinking-man's course with many decisions to be made. Very fun to play
I had gotten a peek at the course while visiting some family over the years, but I never had a chance to play it. I was finally able to play it this weekend with a friend, and it was a very nice experience.
Checking in was smooth, and the range/practice green were nice. The starter gave us some advice on a particular hole that trips up most first-timers-it was good advice. The course offers many choices for someone who drives the ball moderately long off the tee. I always enjoy a course that makes you think and gives you options. The fairways and greens were in great shape. The greens were fast, but not obscenely so. They rolled very true also. The in-cart GPS and pin sheet were helpful. One minor complaint is that two of the par 3s had drop areas, but these were not well marked. We almost missed one completely. A note on the scorecard or a mention by the starter would remedy this.
Overall the experience was excellent, and I can heartily recommend Gray Plantation to anyone looking for a beautiful setting at a reasonable price.
