Landa Park Municipal Golf Course
Played On 01/09/2018Crowded Even on a tuesday!
It seems that Landa Golf is always crowded. The course is in good shape overall, considering it is winter. Greens were hard and fast. Sand bunkers have lost sand in places and showing the underlying cheese cloth. Despite the crowd, everyone seemed to be having a really good time on one of the best weather days in weeks. Pleasant scenery along the banks of the Comal River. Enjoy.
River Bend Golf Club
Played On 03/03/2016Really good value
Took advantage of the $10 hot deal to try this course for the first time. The score cards don't have the course mapped, and many tee box distance markers differed from the scorecard. Difficult to judge distance to carry hazards. Greens were all in great shape, no bare spots, but were a little slow. Grass in fairways was sparse in a few areas but generally good. A couple of par 4's were long, made more difficult with tight fairways off the tees. But fairways were hard with lots of roll.
Northern Hills Golf Club
Played On 06/29/2015Okay experience, greens were good, fairways too deep.
Fairways and short rough areas were allowed to grow too tall before being mowed, resulted in course looking like a freshly cut hay field. Lost a few balls in the middle of the fairway because it was 2 to 3 inches of St Augustine and Bermuda. Greens were in good shape, but hard and wouldn't hold. And you needed a hammer to get your tee in the ground on the boxes.
Cedar Creek Municipal Golf Course
Played On 01/19/2015Very Challenging
This is a very scenic course, but is very challenging because so many of the lies you find yourself in require playing the ball on a slope. Management has removed some of the water hazards from a few years ago, but the fairways are bordered with heavy rough so accuracy is a must to stay out of trouble. Fairways, greens and tee boxes are in good shape.
Northcliffe Golf & Country Club
Played On 01/03/2015Rained the Night Before
Course doesn't drain well, rained about one inch around midnight and still hundreds of standing water pools on the fairway early afternoon. Also very muddy where grass was thin, like around trees. Greens drained well and were in good shape, but tee boxes were mud pits and sand bunkers had standing water or were muddy and unplayable. And of course, it was cart path only. But after several dreary weather days it was great to be out in 65 degree sunshine, so, yeah, it was a great day.
Lakeside Golf Club
Played On 5/3/2013Hill Country meadow course for a relaxing round.
This is not a well groomed course like in the city, mainly natural wild grasses for fairways, but still very playable, and good for a change of pace and relax in the hill country sunshine and occasional views of Canyon Lake. Good value and a good time if your expectations for this out of the way course are reasonable.
SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas
Played On 1/21/2013Course was in good shape, but it was packed.
I play here sometimes when visiting relatives in San Antonio. It is a public course that is in the condition of a private club. The facilities, staff, course layout, course conditions are like a well maintained private course. They offer incentive pricing so you can expect the going to be a little slow, especially on a weekend or a holiday. But, if you can play at a relaxed pace, it is well worth the trip.
Willow Springs Golf Course
Played On 12/15/2012Offer wide variety of challenges
Course layout provides wide variety of challenges- water, sand, trees, doglegs and some fairways that are tight off the tees, but a few that are open. Newer laser-equipped carts are a plus. Greens and fairways are in generally good shape. Even tho a little bunched up at the start and at the turn, pace of play was relaxing, nobody pushing or dragging.
The Club at Rebecca Creek
Played On 12/4/2012The grass on the fairways is a little sparse, but the course is scenic and nicely laid out.
This is a hill country course and fairway grass got a little thin in places. But the course offers scenic views of the hill country, and the drive from FM 306 north of Canyon Lake, turning off on Eagle Rock is not to be missed. Greens were in good shape but like the fairways, were a little on the hard side, even soft high lofted approaches took a lot of roll. Not an every week course, but well worth it a couple of times a year.
Vaaler Creek Golf Club
Played On 11/25/2012Great course but played rough in windy conditions.
Good variety of challenges-water, sand, doglegs, elevation changes, doglegs, tight fairways to test accuracy and some wide fairways to rip it, fast undulating greens. Worth the drive.
Landa Park Municipal Golf Course
Played On 10/13/2012Fun and scenic for the occasional golfer, probably less so for the low handecapper.
Course is well maintained and generally very forgiving of errant shots. Offers gently rolling hills, over-water shots, doglegs and occasional sand bunkers. Ride carts are starting to age, but otherwise a great experience.
