Links O'Tryon
Played On 04/14/2022Fun course with some challenges
Played this course over 20+ times - fairways still a bit dormant but greens in good shape
Great deal - paid only $12 + cost of gas from Asheville
Not busy so I played solo & was able to play several shots on many holes
Played rd in about 3 hours even with extra shots & putts
Village Greens Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/12/2021Challenging but fun
Course would play much fairer if there was grass in the fairways and greens were out of dormancy
Quite a few of the fairways slope and tee balls roll far too much
Will play again once course is in better shape
Very slow play today - 5 hour rd and had to wait on most shots
Links O'Tryon
Played On 02/04/2021Okay for wintertime
Fairways dormant & greens pretty slow & unpredictable
Much better course to play when grass comes out & greens are rolling truer
I had many putts break @ the hole & not from lack of speed
Still for the ridiculous Golfnow discounted price of $11 due to my membership, it was worth it despite missing many putts by inches
Fairways are inconsistent in their texture with some areas wetter than others or softer/harder in spots
South/North at Etowah Valley Country Club & Golf Lodge
Played On 01/22/2021Okay course for winter conditions
Got a sweet deal for only $15 to play today
Course conditions were not great - dormant grass everywhere- greens brown so forget about trying to read subtle breaks esp near the cup
Hard ground so lots of roll where it wasn’t wet
But overall for $15 can’t beat just wanting to go out to play golf with no plan to score well
I shot about 3-4 strokes over my normal score
South/North at Etowah Valley Country Club & Golf Lodge
Played On 04/28/2020Okay course
I’ve played here many times - plays long for senior golfers - huge greens like most resort courses but putted true - fairways need more grass & many wet spots
I only paid $8 for my round so I shouldn’t complain about the conditions
There are a lot better courses around but you can usually get a tee time on the afternoon
Friendly staff & decent practice facilities
Springdale Country Club
Played On 06/14/2019great course but really slow play
I have played this course for years with various owners and the current ones have done a great job in updating the entire course - they switched the nines which I enjoyed.
We had a decent pace going on the front but when we got to the back nine, it slowed to a snail's pace - had to wait over 10 mins. on several holes so wound up playing 40 mins longer than the front which totally compromised our concentration.
There are a lot of new golfers to this course and they tend to hit their balls in "bad" places which then causes many more shots from them - we saw one guy in front of us hit 3 balls into the hazard instead of just dropping it per rules.
The greens were slow to me except 1 or 2 which really were hard to predict the proper speed for longer putts as some greens here are HUGE.
Jacaranda West Country Club
Played On 10/13/2018Nice course
I've played this course many times and they just redid most of the course - new greens on many holes which putted very true - made a few 20-30" putts. It's a fun course if you can keep the ball in play and know where to hit your tee shots.
The sand traps are nice to play out of - lots of new sand. The pace was a bit slow as the course had just opened after it's redo. The green fees are very reasonable and makes this course a good deal.
I played with 2 older female members for the front nine and had a great time. I always play this course when visiting Venice.
Bent Tree Country Club
Played On 10/12/2018Easy course
Haven't payed this course since we moved 16 yrs. ago - lots of changes on the back 9 which use to be the front 9 - some holes more challenging than others - some tee boxes need grass but fairwyas were in good shape - some were wet from recent rains. Greens putted very true & longer putts held their line. There are better courses but this one offers beautiful trees and flowers all along the course. They give you 2 meals with the tee time so come early and eat breakfast/lunch - buffet but decent for the price.
Heron Creek Golf and Country Club - Oaks/Marsh Course
Played On 10/08/2018okay course - different nine holes courses
Haven't played this course in years but did remember several holes on our 2nd nine holes.
It's 3 nine hole courses with some variation on them. Too many holes have very wide fairways making it look more like a pasture than a golf course - some are challenging while others are just not even interesting. The greens were inconsistent and not rolling very true - putts veer off @ some of the holes which to me indicates that the cup is slightly raised - very typical for heavily used courses.
Weather was very humid and WINDY causing some drives to move further sideways than normal.
This is a one and done for me - there are better laid out courses in this area but if you want a fairly wide open course than this is that one.
Springdale Country Club
Played On 06/29/2018My new favorite course
I hadn't played this course in many years as it went through a rough time with changes in ownership but what a great change it was for the better.
It was n very good shape and fun to play.
Greens were holding to well hit shots, greens putting true and consistent.
I plan to play this course as my time allows and with it being on Golfnow with some great rates, I plan to play it often.
I would make it a must play course if coming anywhere close to Asheville - In my opinion as good as other resorts and more fun.
Asheville Municipal Golf Course
Played On 02/01/2018okay but cheap
I've played this course many times - just know that it's a muni course and that the back 9 doesn't resemble the front - I lost my PW on one of the greens and still waiting for someone to return it - my fault but come on who wants a Ping G-30 wedge w/a senior shaft - oh just about anyone who plays there with lousy clubs.
I'm hoping that someone will turn it in or it's a loss of $150 - my fault but still it burns me that no one had found it yet> really

Played On 11/21/2017Only for a hot deal
I got a really cheap deal with Golf Now so I really didn't care that the course wasn't in the best of shape.
Greens were very fast (which I love) but the rest of the course was going into it's winter grass conditions.
There were many wet spots so not much roll if you hit into them. The course is long for a senior golfer but I did score well due to my short game. The greens didn't hold any balls, even those hit with a gap wedge.
I hope that when the new owners take over, that they improve the course and decrease the huge bunkers around most of the holes.
The Club at Savannah Harbor
Played On 10/25/2017windy and long for seniors
This is a 4-5 star course - fairways and greens were near perfect. It was very windy which I was told was the norm. The senior tees were over 6K yds. and that make it very difficult to get on in reg on many holes but I did score my usual 88 because the greens were rolling great. The wind made for a very long day.
My wife thought that the women's tees were unfair for a high hdcp. golfer but she enjoyed the course.
One more thought - 2 of the par 3s were 200 yds - hey guys were not pros !!!! @ age 74 and our tee shots only travel 190 yds.
Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/22/2016great rate - fun and challenging course
Got a fantastic last minute $10 rate so had to play this course for the first time - pace of play was slow but expected that since it has a membership - greens were hard to read so many more putts than normal and shot placement was tricky without prior knowledge but still managed to shoot my hdcp. A few holes are crazy esp. the par 3s which only reward a well placed green shot - some with long carries over water or dried yup areas from the drought. I will play it again when conditions improve in the springtime but probably @ a higher rate.
Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
Played On 10/08/2015very poor conditions
We've played on over 30 golf courses throughout the US while traveling in our motorhome and this is one of the worst courses/conditions that we're played in.
The temporary greens were a joke and 1 hole didn't even have one and very confused about the other one.
The last one had a temp green that was so sloped that no shot held any part of that piece of turf.
The entrance fee is a rip-off and the way to support the other activities in the park. We were staying in the CG and thought that the entrance fee was included in the package - we were never told it wasn't.
We carried out bags from the parking lot since it was fairly close and older attendant tried to grab my bag off of my shoulder - I told him that I can handle the bag, he then said whatever - instead of just asking me if I needed help. If I needed help, I would have gladly gave him the bag and a tip but the way he treated me, I wanted him to just back off.
Since we had a package, we were entitled to range balls but the range was closed due to overuse by a previous large group so the pro shop guy offered me some sport drinks (which we don't drink), 2 caps and a ball mark/divot tool. I asked him if I could trade all of it for some new balls - NO was the answer and then he gave me 2 tokens for a hot dog lunch/drink that we gave to 2 young guys in front of us. ( we brought some lunch with us).
To conclude this long winded review - we will never go back to this course - there are plenty of better courses in the Atlanta area that are always in great shape and reasonable green fees on GolfNow site.
Player beware - this course reminds me of a typical resort run course - I'll stick to ones that are semi-private or well run public ones.
Cherokee Valley Course and Club
Played On 06/19/2015nice layout but aerated greens
We had an early tee time to avoid the extreme heat and the greens had been aerated and were very sandy and damp so putting was a challenge but as the round progressed, they dried out and putted a bit better but not as good as they should have.
One strange thing about this course is that they don't have any holes markers so you have to pay attention to your scorecard and we took a wrong turn going from the 17th green to the 18th hole and actually played the 14th again until we realized our mistake as the next hole was a short par 3. Some of the tee boxes had dead grass and this is probably from the freeze and now the heat.
Course has some quirky holes and without a guide book you wouldn't have any idea of how to play since they blind tee shots so you need to drive up and get a look @ the landing areas. I played from the white tees on the front 9 and then the senior tees on the back - the difference isn't that much but I shot much better as I was hitting short irons into most of the greens on the back. The course on the back plays shorter than on the front with a premium on accuracy off the tee.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a detailed review. Your feedback is being heard!
Timberton Golf Club
Played On 12/09/2014nice layout
My wife and I played this course on our way back to NC as a rest stop in our motorhome in Hattiesburg.
It is definitely a challenging course with no prior knowledge - there is water lurking everywhere and on a few holes didn't realize that it was in front of the green - there aren't any pictures posted of the holes.
I'm not sure if they even sell a course guide. The greens are tiered on many holes which makes putting tricky - you have to know how to read a green to get it close but they were rolling very true.
The day was blustery so wind was a factor and not being a long driver, I had to lay up on several holes but did manage to shoot near my current handicap.
We would definitely play here again, esp. in warmer weather. We were the only ones playing on the course for most of the day.
Francisco Grande Resort & Golf Club
Played On 12/01/2014terrible greens
the course has a nice layout but only moderately challenging - the overall rating is low due to the very poor greens - they still had some sand on them from whenever they were aerated but the speed was inconsistent and you would be guessing on everyone whether it would faster or slower - some putts/chips would roll out while others would slow to a halt.
I would not play this course again - play elsewhere - not worth the $32 we spent.
New Mexico State University Golf Course
Played On 11/07/2014great course
My wife and I played with another local old-timer - like us - so we had a wonderful time - the course was fair but challenging - greens were very fast and it took a few holes to get the speed. I had a later "cheap" time which wouldn't have allowed us to finish before sunset so I called and they moved us up nearly 1 hour which allowed us to not only finish but get the most beautiful views and sunset. This is a course anyone can play and should - the NMST mocs won the 2014 mens and womens WAC conf. and I can see why - they have a great practice facility that would rate equally with any private club.
Bayou Din Golf Club - Links Course
Played On 10/27/2014just an okay course -
poor course conditions but it's Texas old course golf which we're not use to - tight fairway lies - hardly any grass or tightly mowed - could be from lack of moisture. Now we understand why they call a putter - the Texas wedge - would not pay here again even though we got a super deal - better courses in area for a little more money
Hello, ncflyguy70. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With an uncharacteristically full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. We are glad to see you rated the course conditions and layout to be great during your game. Thank you for playing Village Greens Golf & Country Club. We hope to see you again soon.
