Tremendous golf value

Designed by the same designer as the famous Lawsonia Links in Green Lake, WI, this course throws plenty of challenges at your round. Conditions were very good for late summer, with true rolling greens and rather longer thank average rough.

Pace of play was fantastic for a Friday afternoon. Clubhouse food selection is minimal, but staff was very friendly.

You can't beat the price here for the quality of course in the Chicagoland area.

Note: Greens were recently sanded and aerated

Absolute gem of a course

Course conditions were excellent for it being this late in the season. Greens are on the more challenging side, but fair, firm and fast.. Wonderfully designed layout, with challenging visuals. Watch out for the water on #2 approach if you're a first time player of Atkins.

Staff was friendly and responsive. Practice area and clubhouse facilities some of the best in the area.

A gem of a course. If you're in the area, and play golf, I highly recommend Atkins.

Outstanding Course

I primarily play public courses in the Chicago area, and TPC Deere Run is worth a day trip from that area for an outstanding round of golf.

Course conditions in early September 2023 were near-perfect. The rough is what I'd call "tournament length" so be ready to get punished if you spray your shots off the short grass. Combining that with the usual places to lose balls (woods, water hazards, tall grasses) I do recommend that players bring an extra set of golf balls.

The clubhouse is fantastic, and don't pass up the opportunity to shop for some swag at the pro shop. Locker rooms are much better than average public courses. TPC staff was polite and attentive, including starters, course marshall, front desk and cart staff, as well as the restaurant servers. Food was a bit slow coming out of the kitchen, so if you're in a rush they have an expedited menu of hot dogs, etc. There's a halfway house at the turn if you prefer to grab and go.

I recommend you arrive early before your tee time to partake in the practice area, which features an outstanding driving range, two putting greens, sand traps, etc.

The course doesn't have yard markers, but does offer front/middle/back numbers from some sprinkler heads. If you're a tech user (watch or rangefinder) it's not an issue. If you are a purist, I highly recommend you buy their yardage book.

A course that's worth the trip.

Great value

Very good value for weekend golf if you're looking to only play 9 holes. Well maintained greens and bunkers, fairways need work in many places however. Very easy to walk this course, and motorized carts available. Decent length from tips, and user friendly for beginners. Staff very friendly, and nice location within Marquette Park.

No clubhouse besides starter building, no driving range, no on site restaurant,, and I didn't see a practice green either.

Thank you for your feedback! It was great to meet you yesterday.

Our practice facility is located across the street from our golf course. It contains a manicured putting green, 2 chipping greens, and a nearly 300 yard driving range. We also have a small practice area adjacent to our first hole tee box.

Hope to see you again!

Great course layout, and can be so much better

I've played a lot of courses in the Chicagoland area, and Klein Creek's layout is one of the better ones you'll find. The course offers varied layouts for par 3, 4 and 5 holes. There are plenty of opportunities to put your shots in a water hazard, so bring extra balls if you tend to spray your shots. Ample sand traps and decent terrain changes on both fairways and greens offers extra challenge.

The course apparently just replaced the sand in the traps this year. For a public course, these sand traps are some of the best I've played. I'm tired of hitting out of the equivalent of kids' sandboxes like I do at many other courses. These traps are a pleasure to hit from, and offer consistent play. Note that Klein Creek is setting up grass bunker areas, which need to grow in a bit, so the starter advised us to pull balls from grass bunkers.

I liked the fact that the cart paths are cinder/stone and not paved. Many of the paved paths in public courses are not well maintained, these rolled well. The halfway house consists of an outdoor deck area and the food selection was quite good, albeit a bit overpriced. Enjoyed the view over the water and of the 10th tee box.

There were spots along the course where the fairways and rough areas had dead patches, crabgrass, etc. Even a couple of greens looked like they could use some TLC. It's been a tough summer (one of the hottest on record) so with some extra maintenance and a bit more time this course will be an absolute gem.

I found the course to be more slightly more difficult than others in the area, so if you're looking for a challenging track consider Klein Creek.
