Worth the Drive

Casperkill is a great alternative to the slow, crowded and expensive public tracks of Fairfield and Westchester Counties. The classic layout is a good test from the blue tees, but for lesser golfers a good mix of long and short holes also make it fun from the whites too. 17 solid golf holes, # 9 is terrible but blame the terrain.

The greens are on the slow side, but overall it is usually in good shape. They have made an effort to improve the bunkers, so my only complaint is the goose **** on the water holes, so that will be a problem unless they get a dog.

I’ve walked 18 in ~ 3 hours multiple times and recently played in less than 4 hours on a holiday weekend!

Nice driving range and practice area, minimal pro shop. There is a restaurant on site, but it’s kind of dark and depressing. Nice people but just not the kind of place I want to hang out in on a nice summer day.

The price, pace, and course add up to a great value!

Casperkill is a hidden gem of a course. It's fairly priced at peak weekend times and a steal during the week or twilight. The course has a great mix of long and short holes and it's a fair test for mid to high handicappers from the white tees or better golfers from the blues. The greens are on the soft side, so approach shots hold even during droughts. The greens are rarely fast, but they have enough undulation to make them challenging, but never unfair.

There are several great holes on this course, with the Casperkill brook coming into play on many and towering oaks the main hazard on others. The 9th is the old bad hole on the golf course, it's routing was clearly a compromise to get the turn back near the clubhouse.

The facilities include a full length driving range, putting green and short game practice area.

The only cons at Casperkill are inconsistent sand, goose crap and the dark and uninviting 19th hole.

So slow

Great layout and greens were in great shape. But we were 8 deep on almost every tee box. It took almost 3 hours to play the front 9. A foursome can play 18 at my home course (also a muni) in less than 4 hours.
