Black Mesa Golf Club
Played On 06/10/2020Conditions are much improved
I love the layout of this high desert challenge. In the past, the conditions were poor. But I heard the conditioning was excellent and I scheduled a tee time for our group. I’ve never seen this place so well groomed. The fairways, tees and greens were almost perfect. Pace of play was good as well. We finished in less than 4 hours. Previously it was a death march. It’s a difficult layout. You had better be able to hit it straight or you’ll be looking for balls in the desert. And you need some local knowledge due some blind shots that are required. Black Mesa Golf Club is back!!!!!
Pensacola Country Club
Played On 10/04/2019Beautiful cart girl
I played this Florida panhandle course recently. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The course condition was very good taking into consideration there has been no rain in a month. The cart girl was beautiful. She came around frequently to offer cold drinks. It was still very hot. 19th hole grill was friendly and nice overlooking the bay. I’m glad I had an opportunity to play here.
Tamaya/Cheena Course at Santa Ana Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2019Nice casino course
Very nice open to public daily fee course. It was wet from recent rain. The rough was very high and difficult to play. The greens were smooth and somewhat slow. Overall a fun course and is recommended.
Ranch Golf Course at Pole Creek Golf Club
Played On 09/07/2017Second time
I played this course with friends last year and last week. It still is a fun, beautiful course to play. We were on the Ridge/Meadows 18. the Ridge nine is much more difficult than the Meadows nine. Many uphill and downhill holes. It's highly recommended for mountain vacationers.
The Club At Crested Butte
Played On 09/04/2017Big Moutain Valley course
A member got us tee times at this private course. A little pricey at $175 (playing without the member present) But I was worth it, one time. Big long range mountain and valley views. I generally like RTJ, Jr. courses and this was as nice as any.The layout was fun and interesting. Conditions on the course were great.
Aspen Golf Course
Played On 09/02/20179 holes befroe a noon wedding
I had some time before attending a noon wedding in Aspen CO. I went to the course at 7:00 AM with the intention of playing nine holes. For $87 (nine hole rate) I was able to tee off at 7:30 and finish by 9:00. I was paired with friendly locals. This muni course is in beautiful condition (as you would expect for Aspen)
The layout is mostly flat surrounded by mature trees and mountains. This is the best Muni course I've played. the 18 hole rate for tourists is $150. A bit pricey. But you are in Aspen. What do you expect? It's only 2 miles from downtown.
Aspen Glen Club
Played On 09/02/2017Down valley Aspen CO golf community
I played as a guest. Beautiful course is in a residential planned neighborhood. The homes are beautiful and they do not impinge on the course. The views of the mountains and valley are wonderful. Course conditions were great. You should play this private course if you get an invitation.
Canyon Club
Played On 08/18/2017Pleasant tree lined high desert course
I enjoyed playing this private course as a guest. The greens were fast and smooth. The layout is interesting for 1950's style course and the condition of the course was good. The rough was deep and I lost a couple of balls in the deep rough. There are plenty of side hill, down hill and up hill lies. The views of Albuquerque were nice from some of the holes. The staff was courteous. I would like to play again, if I get the invite.
Isleta Eagle Golf Course - Mesa/Lakes Course
Played On 08/17/2017Casino Desert golf course
We played this course as part of a "Stay and Play" package. The hotel room (nice)and 2 rounds of golf was about $169 without tax. I thought it was a good deal. I had some concerns about playing because of bad reviews that I has read. However, those reviews were far from the truth.
The pro shop staff was friendly and helpful. The course was interesting to play and in excellent condition. The greens were smooth and fast. Pace of play was excellent (3 and 1 half hours). The grill was kind of dead after golf but that really didn't matter. I'd recommend this course and will return to play when I can.
Black Mesa Golf Club
Played On 08/03/2017Golf in the Wild West
I love the challenge of this course. And the views are great. I try to play here a few times per year. Last visit was disappointing. We brought guests that had never played there before. We played early to beat the slower high handicappers. However the pro shop allowed a sixsome to tee off in front of us. They held us up on every hole while they looked for balls in the desert. They refused to let us thru and were very rude when we asked. I called the pro shop to get some help with this issue. There was no one available to ride out to manage this issue. It ruined our day at Black Mesa. I'm not sure I will go back to play there, There are many good choices for vacationers to play in the Santa Fe area.

Played On 07/09/2016Best Public Golf in Santa Fe
35 minute drive from Santa Fe. We played with an early tee time. 4 hour round. The course is in perfect condition. Interesting routing. The scenery is spectacular. Reasonable price. 5 star rating in my book. My favorite public course in Santa Fe. (the best course is the private Sunrise course at Las Campanas). Have a green chile cheeseburger after your round. Mmm
Dismal River Golf Club - White Course
Played On 06/24/2016Nicklaus course in the Sandhills
Beautiful course in the sand dunes of Nebraska. In very good condition. Interesting routing thru the dunes. Deep bunkers. It's a great track that needs to be played at least once in your lifetime. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Dismal River Golf Club - White Course
Played On 06/23/2016Doak's Red Course at Dismal River
The Doak (Red) course is different from the Nicklaus (White) course so there is great variety of golf holes. The back nine is down by the Dismal River. The flies are only present for the last week of June. The accommodations are in very comfortable, rustic cabins. Great beds and showers. The bar/dining at the club house to top notch. All guests, members and staff are very friendly and helpful. It's worth the long drive to get there.
Briars Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2016Wonderful Private and Resort Course
We played as guests of members for 3 days. We walked each day. Most members seem to walk. The course conditions were very good. The greens were smooth, firm and fast. The food at the club house was very good. Service at the pro shop and club was very friendly. It was a good trip to Jackson's Point and The Briar's Club.
Arrowhead Golf Club
Played On 05/30/2016Red Rocks golf
Beautiful course in the red rocks. Narrow fairways. Fast, smooth greens. 5 hour round. Windy until 10:00 am. Cart girls make frequent stops for drinks, etc. Nice restaurant with views. Big menu.
River Course at Alisal
Played On 05/28/2015Sideways - the Movie
This is a nice course in Solvang/ Santa Barbara wine country. Course conditions were green and were irrigated. The layout was interesting. The course was used in the famous film, Sideways. I'll definitely play there next time I'm in Santa Barbara.
Sandpiper Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2015Nice Ocean Views
This is a very nice ocean side course in Santa Barbara. If you play after 12:00 noon, the overcast weather burns off and the blue ocean makes you smile. The conditions of the course are green and irrigated despite the drought. I would love to play here every week, if I could.
Grandote Peaks Golf Course
Played On 09/19/2014Valley course in the shadows of the Spanish Peaks
We stopped by on the way from Taos to Denver. Beautiful drive thru La Veta Pass. We didn't have a tee time but they got us on the course right away. Great scenery , decent conditions, friendly staff, good pace of play. I like the variety of holes...some flat, some uphill, some down hill. I would love to play here again if I pass that way in the future.
Taos Country Club
Played On 09/18/2014Links style course in the high desert
This is a nice links style layout in the desert outside of Taos. Pretty Southwest style club house with good food. Friendly, helpful staff. Thick rough, smooth fairways and greens. Doesn't play like a links course due to lush conditions of the grass. I'd like to play here again if I have an opportunity.
Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe - Great 28 Course
Played On 07/19/2014Great Muni
I like to play here. 9 minute drive from my house. You can ride for $33 or walk for $22 (senior rate) Plenty golfers walk here. Play early if you want to finish in under 4.5 hrs. The conditions are average at best. The bunkers lack good sand. The greens are nice and roll smooth. It has a " links" feel.
The information on the scorecard needs to be corrected. If both Women & Men are playing from the same tees the course rating for Women is going to be higher than for men as is the Slope rating. They must have reversed them.
