Romanby Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/07/2021Little gem in North Yorkshire
I had been told good things about this course and i wasn't disappointed, nice club house, driving range and very friendly staff and members and a cracking price was had, the course is a little hilly so i hired a buggy a little surprised buggys were allowed late in the season but course was dry enough, tees were scuff free and the course was well maintained with good greens running true, a nice touch was a ash felt path running along the side of the course so easy for a first timer to navigate if they want to cut short a round ,all in all a great day.
Longhirst Hall Hotel & Golf - The Lakes Course
Played On 09/29/2021Longhirst, more like Parkhurst prison
Booked this round but was not told one of the courses was closed due to a county competition so everyone was on the lakes course, so i ended behind a log jam of 4 balls, as i need a buggy due to a heart condition things were painfully slow as you arrive at your shot much quicker than walking so i gave up after 5 holes., a very rude young man on reception shrugged he's shoulders and more or less said tough, their are lots of courses in Northumberland this one will never be visited again.

I guess I really should have done my homework as this was the hardest course I have ever played on ,on several levels being someone with a chronic heart condition the undulating holes became a real problem for me and I struggled to play 9 holes, the course itself was in excellent condition and the views along the coastline spectacular but also being a 22 handicapper I found it nearly impossible to navigate the tight undulating fairways, and this was in very benign conditions I shudder to think what the course is like when the wind gets up.
In all coming from my own relatively flat course in Bushey Herts which comes back to the club house at the ninth I found this way too difficult for me and I feel this course is more suited to the low to mid handicapper, the facilities were first rate, the bar prices very reasonable,I understand the bar facilities are now open to the public something I will be taking up as I am holidaying close by .
