Club at Bond Head - South
Played On 07/13/2022Great Round at the South course
A great round at Bond Head - South Course. The weather was awesome and the early start was definitely a bonus. Typical links style course with a great deal of elevation changes. Up and downhill fairways and approaches. Well placed bunkers, but the aspect that made this course the most challenging was the greens. They were well kept and rolled very true and fast. Too often was a putt for birdie ended up as a putt for bogey. Very challenging.
Layout was awesome and the employees at the course did a great job of informing our twosome of the amenities and opportunities to score well. I will definitely return to this course.
Willow Valley Golf Course
Played On 10/11/2021Great track...needs drainage... pricey
Played here on Thanksgiving Monday.... not sure how much rain they had, but must have been quite a bit because it was cart path only.... driving range closed. Was a tad annoying. Course could use some better drainage in fairways
But I will admit it was a beautiful course... nice layout of holes and challenging. You definitely use most clubs in the bag, and driver is not always the club to hit off the tee. Greens were in good shape. Tee boxes had been hacked up pretty good though
A tad pricey for the round when you factor in cart. $95 with taxes on a holiday Monday... Always wanted to play here, and the weather was great.
Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 09/23/2021Great layout… want to play when dry
Played here today… after or of the biggest rain events of the year. But I was surprised how much had drained away already. But still wet
Really great layout and interesting holes. Some tee boxes are a little bare, but fairways were nice. Greens… WOW super fast. My worst putting day this year lol but that’s good. Well worth it and I’ll definitely come back next year.
Hockley Valley Resort
Played On 07/28/2021It’s nice…. But not worth $100
Played hockley for the first time…. Fully knew what the cost was and expected certain things on the course. When you pay $100, what do you expect?
Course layout was nice and some fun holes. Fairways were in relative good shape and most of the greens were… green. Smaller greens but for the most part they rolled
True.
However, no Marshall on the course to help move pace really made for a long and annoying round. If you don’t know much about golf… just play at a good pace until you learn. Not hard.
Some greens had many brown spots and cart paths were extremely unkept. I just think when it’s $100 per person… the course should be a certain way. Some holes could use some additional signage so that you don’t drive your cart into the tee location of the next hole.
Elevation changes make for some interesting choices and that was fun. Starter was awesome and pleasant as were the young men running the carts. Excellent attitude and service.
I don’t think I’d play here again unless the price dropped to around $65-70 cart included.
Oakville Executive Golf Course - Angel's View
Played On 08/15/2020Just too expensive for the experience
I’ve played the 9-hole at Oakville executive a bunch of times and today was just an unfortunate experience.
I’ll start by saying yes, the pace was slow. But I’ll cancel that out with the fact that it was a Saturday and that’s just weekend golf. However, there were just several groups of 5’s and other groups who were just clogging up the pace with poor golf etiquette. I’m out for a good time as well... but if the pace is slow, we all need to work towards keeping pace consistent. That’s all I would ask. And the on course Marshall’s should have said something.
Ok so pace of play aside ..... the greens were well kept and watered. But every other area on the course is super dry and I’m sorry, but those are not fairways Patchy, dry and hard. Sure you’ll get some nice roll, but hitting off of them was frustrating.
Maybe it’s Covid conditions, lack of employees, and dry spell but I get frustrated when it’s $42 for 9 holes and the conditions are what they were.
My advice is to find a better deal and stay away until fall when rain helps. If you think, another $10 and you could play a nicer course, probably 18 holes and maybe even a cart. It’s just way too much money for what you get.
I’d look elsewhere and stay away. Maybe you agree with me. Maybe you don’t. But courses need to re-evaluate their charges to reflect the product that they are putting out for the customer.
Gotta love weekend golf!!!!
Thundering Waters Golf Club
Played On 07/16/2020Great conditions, and pace. Bunkers need work
Played a round here this past week, and the course was in very nice shape. Fairways and greens were well taken care. The only weak spot would be the bunkers. I suppose with COVID the attention has moved to other areas, and you can pick up and play from the grass, but I think a little better care can be made. A rake through, or some weeding would really help. Even if you just added some new sand, I think the course would be really amazing. It just looks like they havent been touched in weeks. I only say this because other courses around the GTA have put some attention here even with the new COVID rules.
But dont get me wrong, thats really the only thing that I could fault the course for. The bunkers, and maybe a louder siren to alert rain delays and such. We barely heard it. Ring that thing for a minute straight!
Great round though, and I will for sure be back. The proshop, and starter were awesome.
Indian Wells Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2020Very good condition
Back to play Indian wells after many years of not getting a proper deal. But course was in great condition. Great marshalling. Fairways and greens were very well kept and watered nicely even in this period of no rain.
Know your yardages as many drives will need to take a different Club to stay in the fairway. If you play smart golf you can easily shoot a great score.
Granite Ridge Golf Club - Cobalt
Played On 07/03/2020Keep the ball in play and you’ll be fine
Granite ridge is a nice course. At times you are constantly worrying about being hit in the side of the head, but it plays nicely. Fairways and greens are kept well. Pace of play needs work. Spacing out tee times would be the answer to that. Doesn’t seem like it’s happening
My only beef is the starters. Driving to the first tee we were told to “do him a favour and hurry up.” We were exactly on time as per the covid guidelines and he’s rushing us to the tee. Not necessary. You can only arrive 15min before. By the time you pay... get your stuff from the car... load the cart. The time adds up. Relax guy. It will be fine. Space out the times and maybe it wouldn’t be so much of a rush.
But all in all you can usually get a good deal and the course is nice. (.... just don’t pay full rate. There are many ways to get a deal to make the course worth while ). But that’s just my opinion
The Ridge at Manitou Golf Club
Played On 06/18/2020Great layout... just in terrible shape.
Driving in and judging from pictures, we were really excited to play this course. Had our eye on it since November 2019
Got to the course.. the pro shop was awesome and great personalities in there. Kudos.
As we drove through the holes, the shape of the fairways, teeboxes and greens were very disappointing. It could be covid related obviously, but large swaths or the fairways, teeboxes and greens even were burned and just in bad shape. Like you want to ask “ how is this possible?” And if that’s not all, the fairways were insanely soggy in other areas. To the point where you hit into a center fairway and then need to pull your ball into another area to hit. And if you are paying a full rate, you really can’t believe that they are charging $110 to play. They should have a reduced rate until they get the course conditions into that echelon of cost.
The greens roll nicely, but not one green is actually fully green. Not sure what happened. If the course conditions were better this is a great course. Like another review mentioned, play this course in a few weeks after workers get out there and maintain the course.
But the service from the pro shop and power cart workers was awesome. Keep them happy.
Turtle Creek Golf
Played On 08/02/2019Not really worth the posted costs... find a deal!!!
I played Turtle Creek the year after it opened, and really felt that the course needed to mature, and hoped that they would increase the quality and size of the greens as the years passed. Swore it off, but gave it another chance hoping things would be different.
We played the course again because of a lack of options, and I wish we could have used our money for another course. THE GOOD... fairways are in good conditions, and some nice hole designs. Tight and narrow openings leave for difficult tee shots. Thats about where the good ends.
THE BAD.... tee boxes are in rough shape... and such small greens! Like insanely small for the types of holes they have presented for you. Land a ball 3-4 yards away from the hole, and it will roll off the back. I just feel like they could spend some time and make them a little bigger. If they were responsive and not so hard, maybe that would change my opinion.
I would say the course design is ok, but dangerous. So often, tee boxes are right next to the previous green. Errant tee shots are definitely in range. And for some of the longer holes, the typical drive will land dangerously close to another tee box. Just not designed properly in this regard. Be prepared for some difficult tee shots that are super narrow, or require you to clear 210-240 in the right exact place to be in play.
To be honest, I cant see how this course charges what they post. Thank goodness we had a deal to bring the price to $45/player. Having played so many courses in the region and around the GTA, $45 can get you a lot better. (I just played Crosswinds for $55 the previous week) Play this course, but dont play without some sort of deal.
Thundering Waters Golf Club
Played On 07/03/2019Enjoyed the pace and layout
Had a great time playing TWGC today. Had an early start and the pace of play was amazing. Fairways and tee boxes were in excellent shape as the rain yesterday really helped to make things roll nicely.
The greens were responsive and the ball rolled nicely.
The only negative was the foursome that decided to jump in front of us after hole 9. I actually had to call the pro shop (no sign of a Marshall to move play) to complain about the slow play and the fact that they jumped in front of us. But they remedied the situation after a three hole inconvenience.
Finished the 18 holes in 3.5 hours and a really fun layout. Know your yardage’s off the tee or else you’ll loose quite a few balls in the wrong places.
Batteaux Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2019Great time for a beautiful day
Played Batteaux on a beautiful Saturday and was worried the pace of play would be poor. But it was great for a late morning tee time. We rarely waited and they told us the course was packed.
The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape and really it was only the greens that were the lower point. They must have just aerated or threw sand on them because they were very hard and unforgiving at times.
Cool design and layout though. Some great chances to use all of your clubs and requires some accurate tee shots to be in the right place. Not a terribly long course but it was fun
Beverage cart was out constantly and that person did a great job.
Acton Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2018Cost does not match course conditions
Ive played here many times over the years, but I think today was the last time I'll travel out to Acton to play this course. If you get a really good deal, and are just there to hit the ball, its ok. But if you are expecting more...I dont think you'll find it.
Tee boxes are extremely hard and bare. Very little grass, and basically just hard soil. Sand traps (if you'd like to call them that) are not maintained, tons of grass inside, very little sand, and full of rocks. So be careful with striking a ball.. you may damage your clubs.
The greens were extremely hard and are very small. Even the simplest chip will hit and roll off.
As well, check the yardages on an app or rangefinder, because much of the signage both on the tee and in the fairway are inaccurate.
But like I said, if you just want to hit a ball and get some practice in AND you get a good price for your round, then book it.
It has the potential to be a really fun course, but it just seems like each time I play there, the care and maintenance has just become less of a priority.
Looking at their green fees, it lists some close to $40 during the week. If the green fees are going to be in a certain range, you expect a certain level of play and quality. Here they are not. Spend the extra $10-15 and go somewhere you know will be enjoyable
Carlisle Golf and Country Club - East/South
Played On 08/31/2018A great course but in poor condition today
Ive played this course many times (at least twice each year) and today was just not one of their best. The greens were bumpy, unkept, and did not roll true. Added to this was the fact that there was no attention given to ball marks and divots. Yes, you need to repair your own divots, but the condition of the greens have never been this poor.
I know this course to typically be in excellent condition, but just seemed like today was just not a good day. What probably made it worse was the price that we paid to play. When you pay over $50 to play a round of golf, you expect a certain level of course condition.
However, the course played fast and we finished our game in 3.5 hours. Great pace for a beautiful day
Thanks, will send to our superintendent. Thanks for the feedback.
Mystic Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2018Surprising and Enjoyable
Played Mystic for the first time today... Was really surprised with the course conditions and layout. Definitely a challenging but attainable golf course. Fairways were very green and in excellent condition, just wish I could have been on them more. Greens were also in good condition and the day was great. Pace of play was really good, and marshals were out to make sure people were keeping things moving.
My only critique is the lack of refreshments on the course. Alcohol aside, it would have been nice to have the option to buy a water in a location other than the clubhouse. Sometimes you just want to keep moving after the 9th hole and not slow down.
But a really cool course layout with some tough tee shots and doglegs. If you miss your drive area, you may be left with quite a bit of blind shots to the green. Had to use every club in the bag to get through the round.
For the price that we paid, Id definitely come back and try this course again.
Savannah Golf Links
Played On 10/14/2017Really enjoyed this round
Really enjoyed playing this round on an October Saturday. Started at 1250pm and finished at 4pm. Excellent pace and for some reason not a ton of people out there golfing. The only small issues we found were the greens not been cut recently ( probably because of the rain ), we couldn't drive on the fairways and no beverage cart at all on the course.
But all in all a fun round and I will definitely go back and play again. Not a super long course but the design makes you use every club in your bag. Really enjoyed the course
Hi Marc. Thank you for the 5 star review! A quick note regarding your points : 1. Daily cutting schedules are reduced when the grass slows down in the fall (supplement with heavy rolling). 2. Yes, we keep the carts off the fairways when we are wet to keep them in great shape. 3. Staffing issues in the fall season have meant little to no beverage cart on the course (but cooler bags are available in the bar). Thanks again for your review and we hope you come back soon! Chris
Wildwinds Golf Links
Played On 10/09/2017Was hoping for better
First time playing the course. Based on the reviews I was hoping for a better experience. The hot deal made it worth while though. The starter was a tad bit rude when we asked questions about our threesome being paired with a single. We were simply asking and didn't need the attitude back. After things started the course played super slow due to a busy day. No marshall to move things along on a holiday Monday. No food or beverage cart. The fairways were average to good conditions but the greens hadn't been cut in a day or two which was unfortunate. Our round was almost 5 hours due to the slow play. Some fun holes though. It was nice to play but I don't think I'd drive out there again. I'd rather pay the extra money to play a better course closer to the gta.
Riverstone Golf & Country Club - Long
Played On 09/04/2017Great 9 holes for a deal
Have played this course a bunch of times and always love the chance to relax and improve small parts of the game for a great deal. Not a course to break out the driver on every hole , but there is enough distance to use it on a couple of areas. The course makes you play smart and work on some areas that may need work
Tyandaga Golf Course
Played On 07/30/2015Started great..ended horrible
We started at 7am and things were going perfectly. Played 9 holes in 1.5 hours. When we went to the 10th hole, we were informed that they had started a crossover tournament. We had to wait 40min at the tee until we could tee off and attempt to finish the round. No one informed us at the course this would happen, and the employee at the tee had no solution to remedy the problem other than "if you're not satisfied, go ask for your money"
Millcroft Golf Club
Played On 10/14/2013Great time to play this course
Playing Millcroft in the fall is fantastic... Course was in great condition... and the value for money was perfect.
Hello, Marc9781319. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing Granite Ridge Golf Club - Cobalt. We hope to see you again soon.
