About

I carry a 15.3 HCP Index. I can shape shots with all my clubs. I don't three putt much. My putting and chipping save me a lot. I can usually get out of the sand with some control. I typically shoot upper 80s to low 90s when playing a course for the first time. I have never played a round of golf with the same ball from start to finish; got close several times until I realize I haven't lost a ball yet. :-) I hit drives about 265 on average. I hit my 7-iron about 167yds, my PW about 133yds. I play 915 D2 9.5 Bassara Hi50 stiff, 714 AP2 irons with Project X 5.5 shafts, a mix of Cleveland and Titleist SM5 wedges, 913 3&5 woods, TM Superfast 2.0 hybrids, and putt with a 2012, 33" black mist Scotty Cameron Newport. My biggest faults are fat shots after huge drives and an occasional slice with my driver (OB or H2O).

Not bad for a Saturday afternoon

Nice course good greens (a tad hairy here and there but nice and green). The only thing I did not like was the ugly backside of homes that are eye-sores and also a lot of rough areas have been converted to mulch and dirt. Course is good though - we’ll worth $40 and pace wasn’t awful either.

Good Palm Springs Golf

Check-in was easy. Extremely busy because it was last weekend of off-peak rates so there was a shortage of carts at check-in so we opted to carry our bags to the driving range which was close by. This was a very minor, if any, inconvenience though. The course fairways are narrow for the first few holes after #1 but then they widen back up later. Greens were above average but had a lot of dried out ball marks on them and they are extremely small targets, with one green only 10 yards deep but 35 yards wide. Some greens appear to be generously sized only to find out they are narrow due to the angle of approach. Fringe areas were well taken care of and easy to chip from.

Overall, course was in really good shape considering it just endured 4 months of 110-degree plus weather. I would recommend it to anyone; especially for $45 that we paid. Staff was super friendly and pace of play was 5 hours on the dot.

The driving range is ok - nothing great. The practice putting greens are big enough to use without having to bump into each other. Staff is very friendly as usual.

However, I am glad I didn't pay more than $75 to play this course. The amount of coot poo on greens and all over the fairways was disgusting. At one point I picked up my putter from next to a sandtrap and the bird poo was all over my putter grip and now on my hand. I have never seen a course with so much goose or coot poo.

The greens were in great shape but not as fast as they normally are. We had a lot of rain the past week so I believe there was some dampness in them (plus it was 59 F and overcast so no sun to dry them up). They looked a tiny bit hairier than usual but I liked their speeed overall; probably a 9.5 to 10 on the Stimp if I had to guess.

The cart I rode in was nice. The restroom out on the course smelled good but wasn't so clean on the floor. Then again, my group was the last through for the day.

Plenty of water out on the course. Saw the cart girl twice during the round but I didn't buy anything today. She was very friendly.

Good place to play for a nice price. (7/25/15)

The greens were in pretty good shape! I could hardly notice they had been aerated two weeks ago. They must have did the small hole aeration.

It had rained a lot the night before so we had to play 90-degree rule but not allowed on the fairways. It wasn't too bad. There were a lot of spots that were still mushy so we had to be careful to avoid those areas. However, the fairways were in great shape. The tee boxes were a little hairy and they gold tees were almost always all the way in the back of the box (maybe a club length between the back edge and the tee markers). Again, no big deal. I am just describing the conditions. The grass clippings were left laying clumped up on many holes off in the rough area. Due the heavy rain, I guess they weren't able to clean up the grass clippings as easily as normal. Again, this wasn't too much of a problem. The sand traps are the worst part of this course. I wouldn't even call them "sand" traps. They are more like dirt traps that are usually packed down. Be fair to yourself and pick your ball up and rake your lie (unless you like torturous bunker shots).

The cart girl came around once on the front and once on the back. However, I heard there is not cart girl during the weekdays. The rangers did make several rounds today and kept everyone moving.

All-in-all this place is not bad. It isn't the resort courses but it has a nice club feel to it. The guys are friendly but they don't over do it. They definitely don't try to hustle a tip out of you like some places.

Plenty of parking, a average, but nice, pro-shop, and a fair price at Eagles Creek.

Sunday Evening Golf (07/19/15 @ 4:30 PM)

FYI: Sand trap replenishment and aeration to take place starting on Monday, July 20th (hence the cheap rates). Hit up the Ritz Carton Grande Lakes for an evening round of golf. Luckily, the storms in the area didn't come close to John Young Parkway. Grande Lakes at the Ritz Carlton and J.W. Marriott is public-accessible golf at its finest. However, it comes with a price. That price drops dramatically during the hotter months in Florida. I had to pay $40 plus tax for a 4:20 PM tee-time. However, not a problem of the Ritz Carlton, Golf Now kind of left me out in the cold on a $36 advertised tee time (pretty much after 4pm on the weekends right now all RC tee times are $36). When I was on my laptop at home, the full web site had $36 resident rates displayed. I didn't book the round at home because I wanted to drive over to the course and make sure area storms weren't affecting the course. When I got to the course, the weather was perfect. I logged into my GolfNow app but it wouldn't show me anything other than $60 non-resident rates. The pro-shop was of now help remedying this. The girl working in there said she didn't see anything on their interface except for $40 rates. I just took the $40 rate and left it at that. She didn't seem to want to help me much and was not very receptive of friendly for that matter. So the lesson here is to book online using the full web site if you are a FL resident. The course was awesome. The greens didn't have a bump to them except where irresponsible players didn't fix their ball marks. The fairways are so nice. They feel like plush carpet as you ride around on them in the cart. The carts do not have the full touch-screen GPS units. They do have a GPS unit that gives you front, middle, and back yardages. In addition to that, there is a pin-placement sheet on the inside of the cart indicating "plus" or "minus" yards from the green's center for the day's pin placement. If you have a laser it will pay dividends for navigating par 5s. The pin placement sheet used with the cart GPS pretty much gave me the same yardage to the pins as my laser indicated. The greens are fast so put with caution. You can read the greens by their sheen. If you are going with the grain take caution as they will roll, roll, roll. If you are putting against the grain you might need to stroke the putt a little more. There is a significant difference in speed going with and against the grain. Cold water bottles in the carts cooler. There are plenty of stations to get more water and trade-out your empty sand/seed bottles. There restrooms out on the course too. The driving range has nice Taylormade practice balls and club-caddy stations made from Polywood (tees are included on range club caddy). There are also nice practice putting greens. We saw an alligator, several deer, ducks, herons, and tons of other wildlife while playing our round. Basically, at 4:20 PM on a Sunday, I had the course to myself (my wife rode along). I had a record three birdies on the front 9 this evening which made it even more fun. It's nice to putt and see your ball stay online and not bounce all over the place. :-) Overall, great course if you can afford to play it.

Aeration Dates

Monday, July 13, 2015 begins an aeration week. I just received an email club email statint that this week is aeration week.

I played Eagle Creek on Saturday, July 11th. I got a $39 rate off of GolfNow after reading all the good reviews on here.

PROS: Easy to get to! Plentiful parking. Driving range and putting greens. The course was a good deal for $39. I didn't say great deal, but a good deal. The good part was we didn't wait on any tee box and finished in 3 hrs 50 mins. After my round, I signed up for the email club and received a free birthday round voucher and another coupon for a free bag of range balls on my next visity or $3 off my food order at the grille. The greens were in great condition as were all the fairways and the rough was very fair.

CHALLENGES: If you miss the fairway you may find yourself on an uneven lie as there are hills off the fairways on many holes. #18 has a water carry before the green that could keep you from going for it in two unless you are a long hitter. The bunkers were dirt bunkers. It appears there used to be sand in them but most of them were a good 50/50 mix of dirt/sand. It was very wet in the bunkerrs when I was there with some still having casual water. It's July in FL so what should I expect with all the rain we get this time of year. Overall, the course was just as good as many of the lower to mid tier resort courses. I found that the green speed was inconsistent over the 18 holes. If you play here often, I'm sure you learn which ones are which.

CONS:
No GPS on carts and some holes are hard to figure out where to aim. We never saw a beverage cart and we teed off at 7:10am and finishing up at 11am. I did refill my water at several coolers that were found on course. When we made the turn, there wasn't any quick food ready to buy and take with such as hot dogs or sandwiches. There was no time to wait either since I was playing with other fellows and the group behind was hot on our trail all morning. Many holes navigate through the surrounding community. I'm not a big fan of this type of course architecture. This course reminds me of a much nicer Eastwood or Stoneybrook East.

Groundhog Day, In a Good Way!

I was back at Four Season's Tranquilo yesterday for my birthday. My wife and I played a round together and stayed after the round for an appetizer and drinks this time.

As always, when we pulled up, we were greeted and treated like VIPs. I guess that is just the way they roll at Four Seasons; their customers are ALL VIPs! Anyway, we pulled up, got out of the car, flipped the car key to valet, and inside we went. The valet parks the car and unloads your clubs and shoes and gets them to your cart on the backside without you even knowing it is happening. It never gets old! :-#

As usual, Charlie, the Director of Golf, and Jonathan, one of the pro shop staff, made small talk with us and made us feel right at home.

Next, off to the range to warm up. As usual, a well kept, well stocked range awaited. There was only one of the person there and he was taking a lesson from one of the pros. I hit a dozen or so Pro V1s out to targets and off to the first tee we went.

The course was somewhat empty and quiet. We played at our own pace the whole round - but remember, this was a summer Wednesday morning. You can't expect that on a weekend. However, I have never experienced a round over 4.5 hours at Tranquilo - weekday or weekend, morning or evening.

The greens were still showing slight signs of aeration but nothing that really affected my putting other than my own poor putting. LOL If you would have seen the fairways after the verticut, you would really appreciate how great of shape they are in now. You really can't tell that the greens and fairways were heavily aerated/verticut several weeks ago. I later learned that Tranquilo has one of the best Supers in the industry and it definitely is showing.

One thing I think really sets Tranquilo apart from the other courses outside of the golf course and staff is the fact that they provide complimentary bottled water and fresh fruit out on the course. On the other hand, I wish there was an ice station out on the course to keep the ice in the cart's cooler fresh.

The maintenance crews were diligently cleaning up the course all around us on the back nine; we hadn't seen any of that during the first nine. So our front nine was quiet and the back nine was a little bit busier. Again, understandable as it was a Wednesday morning. That sort of thing doesn't bother me though. But if it bothers you, you may want to play earlier than 9:15 AM or wait until later in the day. You can always call the shop and find out their maintenance schedule.

We saw our cart girl 3 or 4 times on both the out and in #no front and back at Tranquilo#. And when we finished up, we were presented with rolled, tea-tree, cold/damp linens for our faces and neck as a cool-down! Nice touch! We left our clubs to the staff and went up to the patio of Plancha; the on premise restaurant that serves Cuban-American cuisine. My wife and I had Plancha Mojitos an appetizer - Chorizo Parrillero. The mojito was delicious #cross between a margarita and a mojito) and the appetizer was tasty. We finished our drinks and appetizer while enjoying a nice view from our comfy rocking chairs under a covered patio with many potted palms. The patio has a nice Latin/tropical feel to it.

Tranquilo, you've done it again!!

FYI: Aeration Dates

Aeration on back 9 scheduled for Monday, July 6th.
Aeration on front 9 scheduled for Tuesday, Julty 7th.

I played today and the course was wide open. It was like a ghost town today. I guess everyone was hungover from the 4th. I got paired up with Pete from Kentucky/Cincinati area and two other singles, Shane and Bill. Great guys all three of them. We had a fun round. Played from the blues instead of my normal gold. Still challenging shots but didn't get below 8-iron much after hitting drives about 250 to 280 all day. Course was in great shape. Cart girl came around frequently. It was murderously hot and the balls rolled decent on greens. You could stil see the aeration lines from a few weeks ago and the balls rolled fast when putting with the lines and putts slowed up more when putting against/across them. Took me 5 holes to figure that one out. Overall it was a good round and nice to play with some cool guys.

Great Golf Course

FYI: Course Aeration scheduled for week of July 20th.

The Waldorf Astoria! Well, well, well…, finally off the bucket list! This course is very challenging. You better be good with the club you use off the tee. Each set of tees was designed with a specific distance in mind. If you play from the correct tees, I can guarantee you that you will need to use some thought as to how you want to play your tee shot because the water and sand traps (troubles) are strategically placed. This was the toughest course I have played so far since moving to Orlando. I would not recommend this course to beginners or high handicappers to be honest. It might lead to a frustrating day. So, proceed with caution. :-) I am a 15.3 HCP index and I lost about 10 balls during the round. The only place I have gotten that beat up before is Hawk’s Landing at the Marriott on World Drive. Waldorf Astoria is top 5 in the area if you ask me; right up there with Grande Lakes, Tranquillo, Grand Cypress, and Shingle Creek. Waldorf does have some nice scenery but not very colorful with flowers and such. The wooden bridges add nice character as do the fountains. It is a serene course. Only a few holes pass by the resort noise of the pool/bar area. The Wyndham Resort makes for a nice backdrop on a few holes. Iced towels served up at end of round. Then, walk to car already parked out front with your clubs already stowed in trunk. Sweet!

ARRIVAL:
When you pull up, valet greets you, and drives your car to the closed off valet lot secluded off to the rear/side of the building. You clubs will be on the cart when you come down from the pro shop. The pro shop is very nice and Jeff was more than helpful. I purchased my typical logo ball and metal poker chip with ball marker souvenir. I even took up one of the little souvenir yardage-books! Very nice little booklet that did come in handy.

OPTIONS:
BLACK 74.9 / 134 / 7108
BLUE 72.9 / 131 / 6661
HYBR 72.2 / 130 / 6511 (hybrid blue/white)
WHITE 71.4 / 127 / 6309
GREEN 69.7 / 125 / 5990
SILVER 70.8 / 127 / 5089

Blended Blue/White tees are designated by the scorecard. A little symbol tells you which holes you hit from blue and which holes you hit from white. I played the blended tees and found it very challenging as a 15.3 HCP index.

DRIVING RANGE:
The driving range was well stocked with pyramids of range balls. I think they were either Taylormade or Nike range balls. The club-caddys were made of nice PolyWood like the ones found at the top-end resort courses. The range had a nice variety of targets as well – there were about 8 flags at various distances. The range was a little short as I was hitting my tee shots into the trees on the fly. My drives carry about 245. However, the range is wide. Many players can use the range at once. On the range being short though, I didn’t mind as long as they didn’t mind me hitting balls into the woods. Once I figured this out though, I only hit a few more out there. I’m too nice. I guess they must retrieve them from the woods somehow. The driving range also had two full bags/sets of Nike VRS irons/woods/driver. They were fun to try out after the round was over. I actually might trade in my Titleist 915 for a Covert VRS 2.0. :-)

Lessons are available here and I saw one young man getting one. The staff can play too. The one young man that helped me just qualified for the Florida State Open and another barely missed the cut. The cart girl made frequent rounds but I didn’t buy anything as I usually don’t since I play the resort courses so often it would cost a ton more in money to do so. The cart girls were very friendly and polite, always asking me if I needed anything. There is a water station on the front and one on the back. Make sure to get enough to last to the next one. There really is nothing at the turn either. But the girls make quick trips around. They have one on the front and one on the back making the laps. You could order food from your cart and it would be delivered to you on course but it is pricey - $13.99 for burger/fries, $8 or $9 for bistro fries. It is a high-end resort so it is expected.

CARTS
The carts had one cooler, sand bottles, and your standard touch-screen GPS systems. My cart was in great shape with nothing special to note. Carts have four hand towels in them as well as two full-size towels.

PACE OF PLAY
Slow :-) But there was a mix of group sizes out there and I think one foursome in particular was holding things up. Even so, I finished in 5 hours.

VALUE
A little expensive but it a true test of golf at the Waldorf Astoria. This course isn’t going to stroke your ego.

TERRAIN
The course is relatively flat with slight elevations here and there – every green I can remember was elevated at least 5’ more than the surrounding approach areas. There is SAND everywhere and lots of water to be seen. A lot of the holes have mature trees lining at least one side. Most holes have areas of mulch and tall grasses too. Did I mention there were plenty of sand traps? :-)

COURSE CONDITIONS
Tee boxes were excellent (well kept)
Fairways were excellent (best around)
Greens were excellent (fast and lots of breaks both obvious and subtle)
Sand traps were excellent (consistent)

Another Great Time at Shingle Creek

Great round. Greens are in good shape but not the best I have ever seen them at Shingle. Aeration work still noticeable but not affecting putts at all. Hey, it's almost July, what can we expect. Roll 'em right and they go in. Other golfers need to fix ball marks though. Many greens had ball marks I fixed. Service is always great. Evening golf has disadvantages though, as all the coolers are removed. However, the first AED station has ice and water so fill up there. Overall A+++++ round again. This has become my home course since moving to Orlando.

Another great round at Shingle Creek!

Not gonna write too much this time as you can read my previous review of the course (not much has changed from that review).

However, the greens were rolling pretty quick today and almost back to smooth again. Aeration from a month ago has almost totally healed. Greens were extra receptive on shots coming in from high trajectory. Didn't spin any back today, but they stayed where the landed on those types of shots. Fairways were in excellent shape. Bunkers had sand in them (but then again, how would I know), and the tee boxes were in great shape too!

Saw the cart girl two times on front and two times on back - very good! Valet was great! Pro shop was great!

Thanks Shingle Creek! :-)

I Love Shingle Creek! Five stars from me!

Fore-note: Aeration was done end of May. As of 6/14, they were almost completely healed with only slight bumpiness to them and much slower than usual.
Shingle Creek is one of the best all-round courses I have ever played. The service, views, golf course condition, wildlife – you name it, all top notch! I played this course back in May and I loved it. Shortly after I played Tranquillo, Grand Cypress (new course and South-South), Hawk’s Landing, Orange County National, and Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes. I thought Four Seasons’ Tranquilo, Grand Cypress, and the Ritz’s Grande Lakes were all ahead of Shingle Creek. But then I revisited Shingle Creek again last week, and having played all the other courses I just mentioned, I could easily recognize that Shingle Creek stood out amongst them all in terms of overall rating. I can’t say which one of them is the best, because they are all gems in their own right. However, you can’t go wrong playing at Shingle Creek.

There are 5 sets of tees to play at a par of 72;
Black: 7069 / 74.7 / 133 – longest par 3 (220) longest par 4 (475) longest par 5 (584)
Gold: 6621 / 72.1 / 130 – longest par 3 (198) longest par 4 (445) longest par 5 (561)
Blue: 6260 / 70.4 / 128 – longest par 3 (170) longest par 4 (403) longest par 5 (543)
Silver: 5757 / 68.2 / 119 – longest par 3 (152) longest par 4 (390) longest par 5 (529)
Ivory: 5093 / 69.5 / 122 – longest par 3 (140) longest par 4 (353) longest par 5 (468)

THE STAFF
The staff is terrific! They make you feel really welcome and refer to you by Mr., Miss, or Mrs. throughout. Valet parking is super. Pull up, get out, go in and pay, walk down to the carts, and your clubs are waiting for you on a cart ready to go. Finish up your round, park the cart, walk up to your car which already is waiting for you with your clubs already in the trunk. Then they send you on your way with a complimentary Shingle Creek-labeled bottled water. One night I played at 5pm and I was the last person to go out (my wife drove the cart). When we finished, the valet had our car (2013 white Audi A4) pulled all the way down where carts were waiting for us. As we came in on 18, we could see her sitting there, looking all pretty out back of the restaurant; It looked so VIP. As we left 18’s green to head over, we saw the trunk pop and slowly open. We pulled up, got off the cart, tipped the valet $5, took 10 steps, got in the car, and drove off. Now that is FIRST CLASS!
The golf carts have sand bottles, towels, cooler, and touch-screen GPS. When you approach the restroom buildings, the GPS screen will give you the code you need to use on the restroom door’s keypad. The cart paths are pristine too.
THE RANGE / PRACTICE GREENS
Range balls are $6 for a mesh bag. The range is nice and so is the practice green. Both are very close to the first and tenth holes. You really do not have to drive the cart very far at all to reach them – maybe 20 yards from the starter. I have yet to use either at Shingle Creek so I can’t comment further on those amenities.

RENTALS:
Taylormade equipment is available to rent. I see people driving around with rental bags all over so it must be a popular choice among many visitors.
THE COURSE
The course… first off, everything is GREEN at this course and so well-manicured.
The tee boxes are well groomed and taken care of. The fairways are well taken care of too and you get the typical Florida tight lie on them – don’t need clubs with a whole lot of bounce from these fairway lies. The greens are not super-fast but they aren’t anywhere near slow – definitely > 10 on the Stimp meter. They roll really true too. Sand traps are filled with sand – you will not be fooled into thinking there is sand only to bounce off a hard bottom and thin it like Grande Lakes and Hawk’s Landing right now. (Grande Lakes are redoing their sand traps at the end of July so they get a pass).

SCENIC & WILDLIFE
he views around the course are stunning thanks to the Shingle Creek Resort building in the background and foreground on many of the holes. You can even see the Orlando Eye ferris-wheel over on I-Drive on a few holes. There are alligators to be seen – both in and out of the water, plenty of water-foul all over the course, squirrels, turtles and rabbits as well.

19th HOLE
Awesome patio views of the course! Reasonable prices. Good food from what I have heard. Inside dining and bar with sports atmosphere.

GOLF LESSONS / ACADEMY
They have the Brad Brewer Golf Academy here at Shingle Creek. Brad is a Top 100 Gold Digest instructor. He offers individual lessons and an academy membership. If you join the academy, it is $30 initiation, and then $200 per month. That gets you a 1-hr lesson each month, unlimited driving range balls, 10% discount on pro-shop, discounted lessons on top of the included 1-hr lesson, access to the academy practice area, as well as a Shingle Creek Drivers Club membership which is a $100 value. I know, because I have the Driver’s Club card. That card gets you one free initial round, a free round on your bday, and cheap rates for tee times which you can book up to 7 days out. In the summer it’s $39 per round, in the fall and spring it’s $49 a round, and during the prime winter months you pay $69. Your guests get a nice discount too.

EASY TO ACCESS
Right off of 528 coming either from I4 or from the Turnpike. Take Universal Blvd off of 528 and it's practically a few hundred feet to the entrance to Rosen's Shingle Creek Resort. Very close to the airport and you don't have to battle the Disney traffic.

2nd Time at Tranquilo

First: Course has been freshly aerated and vertical cut on some fairways. I think they said it was done this past Monday through Thursday (6/8 - 6/11). Greens are very sandy and slow at this point.

Secondly, I forgot to mention this in my first review so I will mention it in this one. This course is one of few that actually goes out and comes back in. You don't loop past the clubhouse between 9 and 10. I like that for a change. The have plenty of hospitality stations which have restrooms, bottled water on ice, and oranges and apples (wrapped). Very nice touch!

Great staff to take care of you too! Charlie parked my car and was very professional and attentive. Jonathan and Nancy were great to me in the pro shop. Michael was very nice as well. And Jim, the marshall, did a fantastic job getting my GPS working and plugging my club/ball washer so I could fill 'er up with water.

The carts have coolers, sand bottles, and a ball/club washer. They have touch-screen GPS, and towels - as well as those cushy upgraded Club Car seats. The carts are very nice.

Saw deer, turkeys (and baby turkeys), herons, egrets, and many other birds. Great scenic course into the quietness of mother nature.

FYI - Aeration schedule

FYI: The greens are scheduled for aeration on Monday, 6/8/2015.

I didn't play there but I know this from talking to the pro shop staff. I live in Orlando and play the resort courses often.

Great Course - Top 5 in Orlando as far as resort courses

First of all, Aeration on North, South, and East, as well as the New Course is running from 6/4/15 though Thursday 6/11/15.

Great course!

Pro shop staff was a bunch of younger males that were not very attentive or helpful; more worried about chatting with each other and people at the desk outside the pro shop. When I drove up, there was no valet, I had to unload my own bag, and park my car. I don't mind that normally, but you expect to see that at this type of course. Then, after I paid, I was not told how to get to where my clubs were or how to get to the first tee. They were all too busy catering to the "elite" people who were there for some junior tournament. It looked like Beverly Hills rolled in (ie. Orange County Housewives and Ken Dolls with kids who looked like they were being forced to play the game).

Anyway, after I got out on the course, it was AWESOME. The green are very fast. A few holes were extremely difficult with some very deep sand-traps and sloping greens and undulation on and around the green. Very good test of skill. Bring a few extra balls than you usually use.

Greens are PGA fast or even faster. The day I was there a fast green measured 15 on the Stimp and a slow green was 13.5. That is FAST!!! :-)

I loved it! Will return once greens and fairways heal from aeration.

On course water stations but be sure to fill up with ice and water. No coolers on carts like other resorts. No GPS units on carts either. Bring a laser or GPS unit - preferably both.

5 Stars, 10 out 10, Two Thumbs Up, etc., etc.,

This place is the best place I have played since moving to Orlando three months ago and I have played a lot of the big name courses so far.

I rate this course ahead of my previous #1, Shingle Creek, because it is very tranquil (similar to the name). The course was in great condition, the greens were fast (they had a PGA North Florida event starting a tournament there the next day). The course couldn't have been in much better shape. The staff treats you like Donald Trump from the time you pull up to the time you leave. If you want something, just ask them.

Complimentary valet parking; just pull up, get out. Go inside, check-in, and then walk out to your cart with your bag on it all set to go! :-# When your finished, same thing - pull your cart up, walk out front, and there is your car all loaded up ready to go home! :-#

This is a links style course #used to be Disney's Osprey Ridge; totally renovated 18 mos. ago by Four Seasons#. You do not have a turn back at the clubhouse; you really go OUT and back IN #how the scorecards originally got their respective names for the front and back 9s). They have huts where you can get free bottles of spring water, apples, and oranges #on the house). Plenty of places for restroom breaks throughout course and extremely well taken care of / maintained.

The driving range is mowed just like a hole. There is a fairway, rough, and target flags of varying color. Yardage to each flag is marked on a board. The club-caddies are made of nice Polywood. The range balls, to top things off, are Pro V1 Practice balls - the real deal boys!

Lots of birds and deer to see. I heard there are gators but we didn't see any the whole round.

The WHITE tees play around 6,000. If you play WHITE the par 3s will be short; I think we played them at 180, 145, 135, 140, and 100 yds. If you hit drives longer than 240 yds, you may want to move back one set as the WHITE tees will never leave you with more than a 9-iron in. I played with three buds from work who don't play much so I played WHITE with them to keep it moving.

The carts have nice plush seats and have a lot of pep to them. The GPS is touchscreen so you can see yardages to different layups on the course by touching them. Very nice carts!

At the end, they have a really nice patio with rocking chairs, teak wood tables, and wicker seating. Very nice!

The pro-shop is like a retail store more than it is a pro-shop. They have some odd things in there that you typically wouldn't buy at a pro hop like handbags and such and jewelry.

The restaurant was under renovation so I can't comment on food or beverage there.

River Run Golf Course

Just had greens aerated on 8/20/13

Greens are in poor shape after several of them were eaten by some kind of weevil. They were coming back around nicely but now they just aerated them and it's like plinko-putting. But, after a week, they are already rolling much better. It has been a challenging year for River Run but they definitely had a horrible hand dealt to them with the weevil destruction to a few greens. The food at the restaurant is EXCELLENT and a hidden secret if you ask me. Buy one entrée at regular price, get the second one 1/2 price PLUS a free round of golf (or two on the weekdays; at least that was the standing deal they were offering previously). I would call just to be sure. Definitely would not pay more than $50 to play here ever; not even in pristine condition, which I have only seen it in that condition a few times. Typically the front is in great shape and the back can get a little "buggy" with some soggy fairways that like to eat club-heads for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Definitely bring some "Off" for the back nine. Overall, it is a fun course to play and the woods in the back allow you to sort of hide from the sun and not get baked. I rate it a 6.5 out of 10 currently.
