Spencer T. Olin Golf Course
Played On 05/13/2015Worth the Drive
Spencer T is in great shape this year.
Went super early before work and got a free breakfast and lunch voucher, which was pretty nice.
This is a very challenging course from the back tees, We played the middle tees and still were challenged plenty.
This course is definitely worth the drive from St. Louis.
Bent Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2014Very Nice... Worth the Haul
This is a pretty nice course with a good layout. I find that all of the courses out here deal with the same environment and topography, so if you've played one, you know what to expect from the others.
Bent is no exception to the rule, but if you like one of the courses out there, you will like this one. I know I did.
Emerald Greens Golf Course
Played On 04/06/2014Great Course. Worth the Drive
I always enjoy Emerald Greens. It has one of the best layouts in all of STL. If the amount of work they are putting into the course is any indication of the conditions to expect later this year, it will be one of the nicest courses around.
Par 3 at Riverside Golf Club
Played On 03/18/2014Decent Run
Riverside has a nice staff and the course is pretty good.
We booked 18 but only ended up playing the front 9. It was fall, so it's hard to really tell the caliber of this course without playing it in the spring/summer, but I can imagine it is a pretty average course.
I have and will play here regularly.
GreyStone Golf Club
Played On 03/16/2014Awesome
Got a chance to play on the way out of town. This is a neat course. Good conditions and challenging course. Really enjoyable. Love the elevation changes.
Landings At Spirit Golf Club
Played On 03/07/2014Nice Links Style Course in STL Area
The Landings has a decent layout. It's a links style course that's right next to an airport. Some people may complain, but to me, watching planes take off as I play golf adds to the ambiance and experience of the round.
The course isn't necessarily what I'd call "easy" but definitely could be more challenging. I can't wait to play again after everything gets greener and they can add some teeth to the course.
My only complaint was that it seems that they left the flags in the cups for the entire winter and this has damaged all the holes and will require some fixing in the near future.
I always enjoy playing the Landings and hope they keep prices realistic this summer to make it worthwhile to drive to Chesterfield valley.
Stonebridge Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2013Skinny Fairways and Fun Layout
Stonebridge has a bunch of holes with skinny fairways. I enjoy the challenge.
Not a long course, but accuracy is key.
Will be a regular stop for me if they keep the pricing like they had it last fall.
Crescent Farms Golf Course
Played On 10/19/2013Awesome Run
Crescent Farms is one of the trio of courses out in the sticks (Pevely/Aberdeen/Crescent are within a stone's throw of each other). This one is particularly nice.
It's not a cheap course, so I expected it to be nice, and I wasn't disappointed. It's not extremely hard, but definitely has a few challenging holes.
I will definitely make the drive out to play there again.
Far Oaks Golf Club
Played On 09/08/2013Love Far Oaks
Far Oaks is easily one of the top few courses in the STL area.
Play there. That's pretty much all you need to know.
Heritage of Hawk Ridge
Played On 08/14/2013Hope They Can Get It Together
This place is for people who live in Hawk Ridge. It's not a very nice course, VERY VERY dry. It's only really good to play if there is nowhere else to go. I am pretty disappointed.
Bent Tree Country Club
Played On 07/18/2013Fun Course
Went early, had to buy shoes and rent clubs --- wasn't prepared for golfing and didn't expect to have time -- but the staff was super accommodating.
This is a decent course, not super nice, but priced well and definitely no slouch. Another course I will play again next time I am in Sarasota.
The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 07/18/2013Nice Course
Next time I am in Sarasota, I am definitely going to play this one again. It is a great run, nice layout, and plays fast.
Floridians should definitely appreciate having tons of nice courses like this around!!
Mystic Oak Golf Course
Played On 06/12/2013Enjoyable
This course has a great layout, but is sometimes kind of neglected. I have never NOT enjoyed playing there, though. And the price is always right.
If you're willing to drive to Annbriar and play for 70 bucks, you should be willing to play Mystic for $20. Great value.
Will play again and again and again at their prices.
Big Oaks Golf Club - North Nine
Played On 05/26/2013Enjoyable Course
I really enjoy Big Oaks, it's a decent run and usually in OK condition.
Red Pine at Brighton Dale Links
Played On 5/26/2013Super Nice Course
I had the opportunity to book a hot deal for this course while I was in town.
It's definitely one of the nicest courses I have played recently. If this course was in St. Louis, it would be considered among, if not the, nicest course in the area.
The course itself is absolutely meticulously maintained and the greens are fast and well-manicured. If people would fix their ball marks, the greens would be flawless. This is obviously not the courses fault, so I am not blaming them for that.
The layout is nice. Fairways are a little skinnier than I am used to , but my driver was cooperative, so that wasn't a problem, either.
Overall, like I said, this is a great course to play. Next time I am in town, I am going to try the other 18 holes (I played Blue Spruce or whatever it is called.)
Forest Park Golf Course - Red Bud
Played On 5/13/2013Changed My Mind
I played the Dogwood 9 this morning for $20.50.
It's the exact same price as Ruth Park for 9 holes and it's smack dab in the middle of forest park.
Just to give you a hint, I am booking for tomorrow on another 9 holes and I may go for the trifecta on Wednesday. I don't know what they are charging for 18 holes, but it is a good deal.
The course is really short. REALLY short, so play from the tips if you hit long. That being said, the greens are so small, it's still quite a challenge to score well.
Fun course.
Aberdeen Golf Club
Played On 5/9/2013WOW!!
I had the opportunity to play this course yesterday and all I can say is WOW.
I didn't realize how nice this course was. It is easily among the nicest in the St. Louis area.
Among the links style courses, this one is definitely up there with Gatteway. I can't wait to play here again.
I hope the people who live out west down the 44 corridor realize how nice they've got it. That little cluster of golf courses is awesome!!!
St. Peters Golf Club
Played On 4/30/2013What Gives!!??
My friend and I (along with his young child) went to St. Peters yesterday to golf 18 holes. The price was right (it usually is) and the weather was great, so we figured no problems at all.
We have brought his kid to numerous golf courses over the last year or so and have NEVER had a problem. Not even so much as a cross look.
We expected this to be the case at St. Peters. it is no different than any other course in almost every way.
The one difference is inexcusable and I will NEVER EVER EVER golf there again.
Somehow, this course has an AGE LIMIT of 8 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, in order to grow the sport, you need new blood to keep things strong. Apparently St. Peters is not interested in anything other than rules and regulations, golf and all other things be darned.
So I guess if little Tiger Woods or Baby Phil Mickleson from all the commercials and videos would not be welcome at this golf course.
I will never golf at St. Peters again, even if they offer to pay me to play there.
In the past, the course has been nice enough. Decent pace of play and well enough maintained to merit a decent rating. I suppose if treating people rudely and barring children from playing golf is your cup of tea, play at St. Peters. You will be in good company.
St. Peters Golf Club
Played On 4/29/2013DON'T TRY TO BRING KIDS
I didn't play St.. Peters today because of a rule that says that you can't bring a kid who is under 8 years old on the course!!
Never heard of that rule but won't play there again. It's kind of a dog track anyway
Eighteen Hole at Eagle Springs Golf Course
Played On 4/28/2013Easy to Score Well, Great Value
Eagle Springs is a good course to play. It's not the hardest course in the world, but it does have an above average layout and is definitely a fun play.
My buddy and I played from the tips, which is something I would recommend to anyone who hits a consistent 250+ yard drive, but we were still able to match each others' score. (we both shot an 83 -- good score for me, average for him)
There are no really glaring problems with the course at all. Tee boxes, greens, and fairways were generally in good condition.
I will definitely be making this a frequent stop when I want to hit a good score (or at least have a better chance to do so) and am on a budget.
