Winter golf

Hard to give this course a fair rating in winter. It’s winter golf so don’t get your hopes up. It’s a playable course and probably par or slightly better than other courses are at this time of the year in Myrtle Beach

Mid summer round

Overall good and enjoyable day of Golf. Some slow golfers that were playing a pga tournament in their heads. Don’t know why they do this.

For the most part greens were in good shape with some bad spots on a few of them. 85% of fairways were in good shape the others had rough spots that could use some fixing reseeding. They’ve made improvements in the sand traps but coyuse sand with smaller and fewer rocks.

The T boxes were pretty bad and really need to be worked on/ upgraded. Still an enjoyable day on the course.

Course is in great shape

Ground crew was working hard this morning. Course was in great shape reen moderately fast and pretty smooth roll out. Only a few minor mud spots/holes in fairway. Great day for golf. I'd recommend this course especially if you can get a deal.

Play the T-s of your skill level

Pace of play was excruciating. Old men egos need to be checked on the practice green. (Some of these guys were only in their 50s). One or 2 fellows in the 2 4-somes ahead of us played well enough to hit off the white Ts but not the blues. They must have thought they were playing for some high stakes Fed-X cup believing they were low handicappers playing the whites. .
When the course decides to plug the playing cycle to more people on the course it ruins the round for all. I WISH ALL COURSES WOULD LISTEN TO THIS AND RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS TIME. Golfers need to be considerate those behind them- no problem looking for a ball but don’t take 5 minutes when the ball is lost in 2’ weeds for Pete-sakes. .
Greens were in fairly good shape with some rough areas (bare/ disease). They heavily watered some fairways to the point of swamping low areas. I imagine they are trying to stay ahead of late summer burnout.
I still enjoy most of the course but will seriously doubt if I’ll continue playing here if they continue to plug the course with golfers.

Great day in Manistee

Staff was friendly from beginning to end, extremely helpful. From the cart boy to the starter you felt they were there to make your day better.

The course was in good shape with the greens running a little slow. The course is of average length with fare bunkering and layout. Low handicappers may not be fully challenged but not bored. The average golfer should enjoy a round on this northern Michigan course

Spruced up spruce course

Had a day that started out cool, and windy but cleared up and became warm. Course was in good shape even though there was heavy rain the day; before didn't affect the course too much (slower greens), a few wet areas but overall course in good shape. Greens/fairway well maintained, but not consistent for all holes.

Just a friendly course to play as long as they don't plug the course with too many golfers. Long travel times between holes can cause some hang ups when course is overloaded.

What was the architect thinking

Played on St Patty Day, course was not busy but it was "understaffed" to make up for it. Lucky for us because our slow play didn't hinder any other golfers.
Lots of hillside bunks that were over done and making it difficult for older golfers to get to the greens and to the balls out in the fairways if you used the car paths. Great for young clubbers who can and need to smash the ball. Many greens with rediculas slopes where you couldn't hold the green and have 15 foot breaks. You can make greens challenging without trying to play miniature golf. Culp Missed his opportunity to place some windmills and tunnels before the cup.
Worst part of our round was one car died on 15. Called for assistance and was put on hold. Litterally waited 15 minutes with no answer. Called back to be told they were very busy. Really we hadn't seen another golfer for over 2 1/2 hours. Some 45 minutes into the ordeal drove the working cart about a mile back to the club house which was closed. Went to the cart barn and finally found the lone employee still working the course. Got a new cart and drove back the the other cart picked up the other golfers and clubs then drove the mile back to the barn. Not acceptable for any course and especially one of this "caliber".
Extremely disappointed and I cannot recommend this course to anyone. Professionalism and service are unknown concepts here.

Play it again, Sam

Just a pleasure to play here. Course was a little dry but finding almost all courses in HH at this time lack water. Must be a local thing/ winter playing conditions.
Good course design with good bunkers and challenging but fair greens. Enough T boxes for all skill levels. A few holes were difficult to figure where to land but after you play the course a few times it wouldn't be a problem.
If there was any down side, the starter could give a few extra minutes between groups. Hole 1 is par 4 then 2 is par 3. This plugs the course quickly with a mix is 2-somes/ 4-somes and takes awhile to clear out.
I would recommend playing this course. Compared to others played in HH good service, good course with challenging holes and a fun time. They actually had a beverage cart come around twice, not always found on all courses down here.

Port Royal Barony Course

Average course W/ average layout nothing that stands out. Course was dry; T boxes so hard had to use a driver to pound the T in. Fairways needed water as well. Greens OK but a little slow. A little maintenance would go a long way, including working the bunkers.
Don't particularly like playing next to houses on every hole and it looks like 2 of the 3 courses wind through the houses
I would only give it an average rating even if they even attempted to maintain the course for the above reasons. Just nothing that stands out unless you really like driving a golf cart for miles.
Too many courses to try down here before I'd replay this one.
One bright note: staff was very friendly and helpful ; maybe they can train the grounds keepers

Course in good shape for time of year some dry areas but most fairways in good shape. Greens fast and smooth, bunkers wet It would help if they were dragged and to "fluffed".
Had fun good fair course couple of tricky holes. Would be easier playing it again. Overall good value for the $$. Folks on the course very friendly

Alternate green holes /flags were confusing

Course was in excellent shape. First time playing the course I found it difficult to determine where to go with the cart between holes and where the actual "normal" green holes were located.
Summit uses various size putting holes to make it easier for people to putt and so when you look toward the green you see 3 different flags. It was not obvious on all holes on which side of the green you should drive your cart toward.
Course has a tremendous number of hills and the green (were in good shape) but penalized you for not landing in the center of the green. I had 5 balls that landed 5-10 feet onto the green only to roll all the way off - sometime back toward me other times off to the side. You should not be penalized for a good shot just because it's not a perfect shot. Green had a lot of break and if you were not in a perfect location you were probably going to 3 put - That is not fun.
I would play it again at a discount rate but not at the going rate - it's too much a "miniaturesque" golf course. A course to play if you don't care to score.
Young folks in the proshop and carts were OK but not very enthused about working that day.

Older course - w/ some newer improvements

Staff friendly and helpful 5 Stars for them.
Spruce course is in best shape I've seen over the last couple of years. Fairways in decent shape, greens are a mixed bag, with most being OK. Probably could be plugged and rolled - definitely needs overseeding in the thin areas
Tee boxes need major work, not being kept up, hammered, lots of divots, hard finding a Tee-spot especially on par 3's. Bunkers - 1 star; need major work/sand; most are gravely sand hard packed and not maintained, weeds in the bunker- sand and raking them would help.
Small improvements could make this a; " I want to play this course again!"

Great day on the course

Compared to other courses played this week, this course was a gem. A little more expensive than the others but well worth it. Actually had grass and not dirt in the fairway or scabby greens. Course well maintained, greens a little slow but fine and true. Staff very friendly and helpful no matter what job they had; a pleasure to be around them (they understand service).

(Played other Sun City and Surprise courses and will not go back to them, absolutely poor layout and I don't think they know what maintenance means.
