Pebble Beach Golf Links™
Played On 07/06/2018Best Golf Day Ever
I mean, it's Pebble. Worth the tag, worth the trip, check one off the Bucket List.
It was in incredible shape. We had an absolutely wonderful caddie (Bill - Scottish guy from St Andrews!). It was very windy but hey, that's part of what you sign up for there. It was a perfect experience in every way.
Spyglass Hill™ Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2018One of My All Time Favorites
Played as part of the 4th of July Stay and Play package they were running.
This course is no joke. Every employee and golfer tells you this, but it is absolutely true. The first 5 holes out on the ocean are exposed to the wind and VERY difficult. Fast greens. Must find the fairway. I can't say enough positive things about this course, I just had a blast. My only regret was that I wish we had splurged for the caddie, because local knowledge would have helped in many places
Staff was professional and friendly.
Stunning. Go play it.
Del Monte™ Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2018Challenging and Boring
Played as part of the 4th of July Stay and Play package they were running. Our driver told us it is the 2nd oldest course west of the Mississippi (not sure if that's true or not), but neat to see the older homes.
The course was in really great shape. Awesome greens. But the layout is the same hole over and over again. And the fairways are about 15 yards wide. So if you are inaccurate, you have no hope here.
Staff was VERY friendly and food was superb.
If you are playing the Pebble courses, I would leave this one out. Not a good value for the money IMO. If you're a local, prob a fun one to play every now and again.
The Links at Spanish Bay™
Played On 07/04/2018Gorgeous Course, but Not One of My Favorites
First, it was very windy and chilly the day we played. It is already a tough course and played much harder under the conditions. Played as part of the 4th of July Stay and Play package they were running.
Front 9 was a blast. The Back 9 is the same hole repeated. AND they are redoing the grass around the 17th and 18th greens so within 20 yards of the greens, they were unplayable. And at the Pebble pricepoint, that is lame.
The scenery could not be any more beautiful, though. Great staff, EXCELLENT food.
Laguna Seca Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2018Fun Course in Monterey
Was looking for a quick morning round while in the area, and this course came highly rec on this site. It did not disappoint. Fast pace, great conditions for the price. Got a deal on golfnow.com. Strategic golf, fairly forgiving, quick greens, lots of fun. No ocean views, but very nice little track. And the food in the restaurant is GREAT!
Country Club of Whispering Pines - Pines Course
Played On 11/05/2017Forget Pinehurst - Play Here
Pinehurst #6 was asking $210, and it looked gorgeous but we werent up for that. So we looked on golfnow and found this gem. FUN course. Plenty of challenge but not unfair. We played Pinehurst #1 the day before, and honestly, we had more fun here. Squeeze it into your Pinehurst trip, you wont regret it!!
Straits Golf Course at Whistling Straits
Played On 07/15/2017Breathtaking. Hard. Do it.
Saved this course for last on Dye-abolical package. Wind was up all day to make it tougher but it was not unfair. PLAY AN APPROPRIATE TEE. They tell you this at the beginning, so listen. Just stand on the first 2 teeboxes where the pros hit from and mosey on up to the green or white tees. Scott Flowers was our caddy again and he is a phenomenal green reader and just all around great guy to walk with for 5+ hours. It takes awhile. Enjoy it. Hands down, prettiest course I have ever played. A top 3 for me. Pony up the dough and do it.
Meadow Valleys at Blackwolf Run Golf Course
Played On 07/15/2017Fantastic
Played as part of Dye-abolical package so Value is slightly skewed.
Wonderful layout. Slick greens. Great opportunities for risk/reward. Tough and fun. Definitely the easier of the 2 Blackwolf courses (neither are easy).
River at Blackwolf Run Golf Course
Played On 07/14/2017Challenging but still had fun
Again, played as part of Dye-abolical package.
Greens were very tough but immaculate. Had to be very creative in some spots. The forecaddie was great and had lots of knowledge to help you save strokes. No layups. But lots of fun. :)
Irish Course at Whistling Straits
Played On 07/13/2017Favorite Course at Kohler
Not sure if it is because we played it first as part of our package, or because it was the least wind we had on our trip, but this course was INCREDIBLE. Perfect conditions. The only course that was more breathtaking was Straits. Our caddy, Scott Flowers, was the BEST. Best green reading caddy I have ever played with. In fact we requested to have him when we played Straits (just call Kohler concierge and they set it up). One of my top 3 favorite courses I have ever played.
Boone Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2017Not Boone's Best
Was very excited to play here but did not deliver. Fathers Day weekend, the course was WAY overbooked to played in 5+ hours. Tee to green in good shape but greens were AWFUL. Too fuzzy and too much traffic. Fun layout but will not return. Too many other good courses in the area.
Blackstone Country Club
Played On 02/02/2017Wonderful course
Great staff, nice facility, sliiick greens but not unfair, tremendous layout. Couple holes a little gimmicky but very very fun. Would definitely play again!!
Monument at Troon North Golf Club
Played On 01/31/2017Fantastic in Every Way
Top notch staff, incredible facility, one of the better pro shops I have ever been in that wasnt a pga tour tract, immaculate greens/fairways. Challenging but not unfair. Honestly, one of my favorite courses I have ever played anywhere in the US.
The Phoenician Golf Club
Played On 01/29/2017Slooooooooow but GORGEOUS
6 hour round. Too many unrepaired divots on greens. Not worth the pricetag on this day.
We played 3 courses last week, this one was the most expensive. Greens pretty beat for the $$$. Fun layout but there was a 50yd par3.
Wonderful staff, great facility, BEAUTIFUL scenery. I think w less traffic and better green conditions, this review would vastly improve. Visually a stunning course.
Oyster Reef Golf Course
Played On 08/27/2016Great if you like playing the same hole 18 times
Every. Hole. Is. Identical.
Except for hole #6 which is in the Top 10 most beautiful par3's I have ever seen.
Greens were well kept but very slow. Nice bar.
