Charlie Yates Golf Course
Played On 02/17/2024Sweet
Love this short course and its great practice facility. 9 holes took me 65 minutes.

Played On 02/14/2024What a Muni Should Be
Atlanta's least pretentious muni. Staff is putting work going into the course, especially thinning out trees and improving drainage around the course. Greens are good. Sugar is not going to wow anyone, but it's an enjoyable layout for a great price. Love playing here.
The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort
Played On 04/02/2024Marsh Mellow
Loved playing K&P. Played with my son on a beautiful spring day. Course conditioning was very good from tee box to green. Layout has lots of short par 4s, a few short par 5s, but the aesthetic highlight is clearly the back 9 and the marsh holes. Course was busy but pace was fine, well under 4 hours. Not overly hard, but still fun—just what you want for vacation golf.

Yates is awesome. Par 30 (6 3s and 3 4s). Nicely conditioned, fun and challenging layout. Awesom practice facility. Youth on Course program. And now they serve beer. Golf as it should be. Carry or get a push cart to enjoy it fully.

College Park Municipal Golf Course
Played On 09/01/2023Grass!
It may sound funny, but I'm always impressed when a local muni figures out how to grow grass. Tip of the hat to the grounds crew at College Park. The fairways were solid, sometimes plush. Greens were very good (repair work on #2 underway). This is the kind of course that should be in every community: not too hard, blue collar vibe, good practice facility, and leaves you feeling like golf is truly a sport for everyone.
Sugar Creek Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 08/19/2023Tempted to give it 1 star…
…so the rest of you will stay away and we can keep this gem to ourselves. Listen, are there faults? Yes. The cart paths are bad (which you’d never know if you’d get a push cart and walk). There are lots more trees that need to come down. Some of the tee boxes are like pavement
and there are a few bare spots. But if you are looking for an inexpensive, enjoyable, often delightful place to play a round with true greens, Sugar Creek is the champ.
Hello, David3175379. Thank you for visiting us at Sugar Creek Golf & Tennis Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Charlie Yates Golf Course
Played On 05/29/2023Frost Warning
Yates got hit really hard by the winter freeze. They've lost a few greens and tee boxes that had been renovated. It's sad because they've put so much money into the course and clubhouse and practice facilities. The conditions are not due to neglect--as at some other courses--they will get the grass to grow... eventually. Just don't be surprised at home many greens are dirt and duck grass. It may not be worth your money until they can bring everything back to Yates' usual standards.
Hello, David3175379. Thanks so much for your review. We appreciate your feedback, and we hope to see you again soon at Charlie Yates Golf Course.
Candler Park Golf Course
Played On 05/11/2023Well-Spent
Not gonna' lie--the course is in rough shape. Candler's never been known for perfect conditioning, but the tee boxes were the worst I've seen them and they hadn't mown the fairways--shaggier than an old sheepdog. But listen, if you're going to Candler for pristine golf, you're missing the entire point. It's one of the best golf experiences in Atlanta. Just find a tuft of green, place your ball down, hit it, and follow it up and down Candler's graceful hills. 75 minutes well-spent.
Heritage Golf Links - Legacy Nine
Played On 04/05/2023Unique and fun
Heritage is unique among Atlanta public courses for the fairway moguls and steeply sloping greens. It’s a pretty reliably fun course. Kinda pinball-y. Not boring. It gets a ton of rounds so it’s a little beat up in spots (tee boxes and places where the runoff has exposed the red clay), but greens were fine, bunkers were soft, and fairways will be fine in a few more weeks. Staff was really helpful. Keep up the good work Heritage! Atlanta needs sturdy, fun public courses.

Played On 10/28/2022Don't Come to Sugar Creek
Whatever you do, don't come to Sugar Creek. Because if you do, you'll just make it more crowded, and honestly, I want this place to myself. The investments in the course over the last two years are paying off. It's the best I've ever seen it. The dry weather helps--when it's wet, SC has serious drainage problems. But right now, it's super-playable. A few tee boxes remain to be updated, but SC is one of the best golf deals in Atlanta.
Pacific Grove Golf Links
Played On 10/08/2022Amazing
Like you, I’m a public golf guy. I try to figure out the best, most affordable courses I can play. I’m not sure if there is a Muni Hall of Fame, but if there is, Pacific Grove has to be in it. I was spending the weekend on Monterey and there’s just no way I was going to be able to pay for the famous ones. But the reviews all said this one was a gem. Amen and alleluia. The font nine is a quirky layout with a few fun holes. But the back. OMG. Carved into the dunes, views of the Point Pinot lighthouse, the Pacific Ocean around you on two sides. Every hole on the back was a joy. I will remember this round for a long time. If you get a chance, play the “Poor Man’s Pebble.”
Charlie Yates Golf Course
Played On 08/26/2022Best short course
An awesome short course. Par 30. Some great holes: 2, 4, 5, and 6 are all super fun. Course is in excellent condition. Youth programs at CY build the next generation. Get a meal at the bbq place on 2nd and Hosea Williams afterward!

Candler Park Golf Course
Played On 07/29/2022The Little Golf Course that Could
Like the little blue engine of yore, overlooked in favor of all the bigger, shinier engines, this little golf course always chugs and puffs and with moxie she comes through in the end.
Yes, some of the greens are “lost” and the 6th tee is… I dunno what to say about the 6th tee… but this little oasis of old-timey, unfussy, unpretentious golf is one of the best golf experiences in Atlanta. Grab your walking bag and a friend who’s never played or junior golfer and have a guaranteed great 90 minutes. I never regret 9 at Candler Park.
Browns Mill Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2022GREAT public option on ATL's south side
Brown's Mill did not disappoint on a mid-July morning with heavy dew. It's consistently a well-conditioned public course, and the layout isn't overly taxing but there's enough challenge and hole variety to keep most golfers interested. Things I liked: 1) the course was open by 7am so I could get 18 done by 10am; 2) a few holes I love: the fun elevated tee shot on 1, the long, uphill par 4 3rd, the short dogleg 5th, the reachable but well-guarded par 5 10th; 3) the folks I've met who play here are super nice--and let's be honest, most courses have only white folks playing, but BM looks like ATL. The cart paths are new, which is nice, but I walked (and it's a GREAT walking course--holes right next to each other). Definitely my favorite 18-hole City of Atlanta course.
Sugar Creek Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 06/16/2022Great Public Course in S. DeKalb
I paid $18. Let that sink in for a second. $18. That's an incredible deal for 18 holes. It would almost be worth it to play on a parking lot for $18. But this is a fun, interesting, improving layout. There have been obvious investments and improvements in the fairway turf and the greens. Both are decent to good. Future plans (I hope) will take away some of the over-grown trees and deal with drainage (it gets swampy after a heavy rain). Much love and credit to the staff of Sugar Creek--you've brought it back from the dead and it's a really fun, inexpensive place to play.
Candler Park Golf Course
Played On 06/09/2022Perfect
The greens are uniformly irregular. The few tufts of grass on the tee boxes should be personally congratulated for their unrelenting tenacity. The fairways were... lush, actually, although there are one, maybe two holes where you need to hit them.. This is Candler Park. If you come for the conditions, you will be disappointed. If you come to follow a small white ball around an enchanting and hilly patch of historic intown Atlanta, you will find that everything here is, as always, perfect.
Charlie Yates Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2022Such a fun course!
I love Yates and play it 20 or so times a year. It's a great Rees Jones layout--tees for every skill level, short enough to not be super stressful, perfect for a quick round. They've put a lot of work into the course of late to improve drainage and work on specific tee boxes and greens and it shows. It's in great condition right now. A few more tee boxes remain to be improved (will #4 ever get its back tees back?... doesn't the back tee on #8 deserve a little love?), but take this lovely little muni for a weekday spin. You won't regret it.

Southland Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/17/2022Cool layout, mediocre conditions
Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way first. There are a few huge bare spots of red clay where there should be fairway grass, some tee boxes require a rubber mallet to pound your tee in, and much of the course is as hard as a Walmart parking lot. Fine. But it’s a really cool layout. There are some great hard holes (3 is a beast of a par 3, 6 is an uphill par 5, and 7 is a long, narrow par 4), great terrain changes, fun doglegs and blind shots (4, 11, 12, 18) and a few good chances at birdie. The greens are in great shape. And for $35 on a weekday, with a cart, what else do you need? Yes, hole 8 needs to be scrapped and redesigned. But take some cold drinks and enjoy one of the more creative layouts among all Atlanta public courses.
Mystery Valley Golf Club
Played On 02/04/2022Reliably Good
It had just stopped after 2 straight days of rain, but it dried off as I played. For a wet winter day, the course played great. It's an interesting wooded layout, with a good amount of variety of short and long, uphill and downhill. The bunkers are gone--they were lakes. But the greens roll nicely. A solid public course in DeKalb County.
