The Duke's Golf Course
Played On 05/07/2017The Dukes
On a warm but windy day, our 4 ball arrived at The Dukes, following the 5 hour drive up from Burton On Trent.
The Dukes had been recommended to us by several people and we looked forward to it immensely.
On arrival, we were greeted by the Reception/Pro shop representative, he was very friendly and efficient, explaining all aspects, from locker room access to first tee location.
We purchased items and again were dealt with very professionally.
Then we moved into the lounge to have a drink and bite to eat while awaiting our tee time, this was not such a pleasant experience.
The Barstaff were very poor, taking an age to take our order and actually getting it wrong.
Our food also took a long time, and when it did arrive, it had obviously just been microwaved... Not what we were expecting from The Dukes....
Golf wise, tough course, playing with a cross wind most of the way round, it tested all 4 of us, but in a good way.
As our first experience of St Andrews golf, it proved a tough test, and we all played slightly over our handicaps (7 - 12).
Greens and fairways were running hard and fast, but the green pace threw us a little, as the ball seemed to slow up very quickly.
A very enjoyable afternoon on the course, slightly spoilt by the catering in the clubhouse.
