Eagle Dunes Golf Club
Played On 12/31/2018Nice change of pace
My regular foursome decided to give Eagle Dunes a try when I spotted a good price on Golf Now. It's about a 30 minute drive for me, and we usually don't wander that far from home, but we all enjoyed the round.
We are all around 70 years old, retired, and play once or twice a week. Two of us had played this course quite a few times in the past, and two of us only once or twice. We booked a 7:54 tee time, and arrived about 7:30.
As the name implies, Eagle Dunes features many large waste bunkers that invite you to hit your ball into them. There are also a few water hazards, which some of us managed to hit into. The greens were in good condition, although they are slower than we are used to.
The fairways were fine for golf, although a bit bumpy in spots, so drive carefully. Carts are smooth-running electric. The course has enough elevation changes to make it interesting, and also to create numerous side-hill lies. We all shot in the 90's, which is about normal for us.
Staff was friendly, especially the starter who told us a couple of jokes. We did not try the restaurant. Recommended.
Thank you gatorickj as we appreciate your 4-star rating and review. It is great to see you had an enjoyable time on the course and we hope you join us for another round soon here at Eagle Dunes Golf Club.
Eagle Dunes Golf Club
Played On 07/27/2018Good course
I've played Eagle dunes a dozen or so times over the years. It is a bit more challenging than my usual course. Being old, we played from the blue tees, which measure about 6000 yards.
On this day, we found several of the fairways to be in poor condition, but the tees and greens were mostly excellent. We lost a few balls which should have been just off the fairway, but couldn't be found due to the high rough.
The course features lots of sand and very few water hazards. Cart operated flawlessly. The restrooms on the course consist of port-a-potties, so go before you tee off. There is adequate drinking water available. We did not avail ourselves of the restaurant.
Deltona Club

First, I am 70 years old and play from tee box IV (5400 yards). If you play from a longer tee, your experience may be different. I have played here a half dozen times and It is my favorite course for the money.
The layout is very interesting, with several severe doglegs and many elevation changes. There are almost no water hazards to speak of, but lots of sand, both in green-side bunkers and waste areas along the fairways. There are also plenty of trees for some extra obstacles if you stray from the straight and narrow.
The course conditions have always been excellent, with two caveats: the greens are quite slow compared to most other area courses, and the bunker sand tends to be hard-packed. This is fine for the fairway bunkers, but the green-side traps can be challenging. The course has one restroom/water facility positioned to be accessible after holes six and fourteen.
The clubhouse is minimal, with a pro shop that has a very small inventory of necessities, and a snack bar that sells burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, drinks, and various snack foods. The men's restroom is a one-holer. Everything seems clean and well-maintained. There is a driving range (which I have not used), and a practice green. The staff has always been friendly and helpful.
Sweetwater Country Club
Played On 05/26/2014Tight fairways
Like many courses that wind through a neighborhood, Sweetwater has fairly narrow fairways on most holes, which accounts for the degree of difficulty. Most of the fairways and greens are in very nice condition. There are not too many water holes, and I lost only 2 balls during the round.
There are some very pretty holes, with some hills involved. Another challenge comes in the form of many trees that make placement of shots critical in order to have clear green approaches. I played particularly poorly, but would still like to try this course again.
Thank you for reviewing us, gatorickj. We see you rated the course 3-stars and are interested in learning what we can do to improve before your next round.
