East at Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 02/18/2022warning
WARNING!!! You will pay premium in season green fees to play greens that are the worst of any course in Florida! Surfaces on both East and South are like you see on the moonscape...quarter to halfdollar sized craters, hundreds of unfixed ball marks, the birds tear up and leave deep holes diggin for bugs, moles use several greens for runways that are not fixed, if the greens aare mowed they are left 1/8 to 1/4 inch higher than recommended for proper growth maaintanance giving a "stimp" of 5 to 7, They do not roll the greens ever and since the topdress and overseed months ago no effort to fix or maintain has been shown. Putts wobble and bounce like putting on a seashell driveway. Several greens are hard as a gym floor on approach shots and still have a great percentage of bare grass and washed out sand. New ownership holds the promise of massive improvement but probably not for another 2 to 3 seasons. Spend your money on other courses that give you value, conditioning and customer service equal to your dollar. Vacationers will leave this course with a sour taste.
South at Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 12/28/2021Waste of money
South was reseeded but has not followed mowing procedures to establish rye grass root base. Grass will not fill in properly until extreme directions for mowing and watering are followed. All greens need major repair for 10 to 75% of the surface area. Bare spots, holes and uneven grass and bumps make it near impossible to putt on line. The old saying of dressing up a pig with lipstick and a dress is still a pig pertains to the South course.....not quite the goat ranch conditions a month ago but very close in the near future. Has been open now 4 weeks and not one effort to repair damage has been attempted. All of the bunkers do not have sand but 1 to4 inches of grey/black dirt that turns to mud with any watering and are filled with footprints from players, birds and weeds. Save your vacation money and look elsewhere.

Played On 07/26/2021took guts
Took guts to charge $35 and tax to play greens that had just recently been "big hole" punched and had not been cut for several days and were not "wisked" to remove the water from overnite dew/rain. Stimped at about 4 to 5 and bobbled offline with "rooster-tails" of water. Embarrasing to the play for sure at that inflated price. Great layout, very challenging with tee sets for every caliber of golfer. Inconsiderate fee for the large group we took from as far away as Lake Wales...most an hour travel to play a course with terrible green conditions.

Take your putter out to an asphalt or cement driveway. Count the times the ball bounces left or right on a 15 foot path...then practice distance control ..vary from a nap carpet to a linoleum floor and several on closely mown lawn patch...you should have this down when you play the greens.
They have markers on all the tee areas..otherwise you could not tell them from the fairway and the fairway from the roughs. Make your group a bunker rule...you can place the ball in any area not torn up by footprints, bird tracks, or washed out cuts. Lift, clean and place to any grass suitable on the fairway, there are patches of good grass within a 3 foot range of your ball.
Imagine the worst conditioned course you have ever played...give that course a 1 to 10 and then subtract 5 to 8 and you will have this course rated for playing conditions. Enjoy your round.

East goes days with no mowing of fairways, teeing ground, greens or bunker rake once the South course opens in late December. Green cups have collapsed or damaged sides on many holes Pins do not fit in the cups properly so wind will blow the pins into the cup sides or completely out of the cup.. Golfers stepping close to the cups often create mounding so putts wobble to either side if not struck firmly due to days in the same spots.. Huge patches of weed growth on all greens with bare mud and burned out areas. Hundreds of ball marks not repaired. Attempt to fertilize has left thousands of hard, pebble sized "rocks" that affect putts. "STIMP" will vary from 5 to 7 average with a lot of surprises due to the condition of a particular green. Golfers describe this course as "goat ranch" condition when maintenance is lacking or ignored. Good course for beginners or those that feel uncomfortable playing with crowded conditions if you can get a "HOT" deal for $20 or less.. As a year long member I was embarrassed to have a guest charged $45 to play this course, he will not return. Play the South course...excellent challenge and condition with good grass on greens with a moderate STIMP of 8 to 9 and decent fairway lies if you bump it.

Played On 02/10/2017good value
Good value for the buck....fairly wide open with a few "pay attention" holes to hazards and water. Greens are all elevated...tough runups if shots are short..lots of chipping opportunities. Fairways and greens are starting to grow into consistent surfaces...putting is smooth and not overly quick..probably about 9 on a stimp. Sand in bunkers is awful if you arent used to this "sugar sand"...deep, soft...normal technique will not work...shallow out the strike and bounce to the max or leave it in the bunker..Pace of play can be frustrating...understand you will be stalled at several holes and have some patience...have finished 6 rounds so far in less than 4 and 1/2 at worst. Max play, every tee time usually taken. Lots of "mixed" couple foursomes...great course for the lady golfers...not overly long from the red tees.

Played On 02/03/2017dont waste your $
Fairways are threadbare and wet...any shot with modest trajectory will be a mud ball when it lands. Greens are an embarrassment...one will stimp at 15 or faster and the next will be a 7 to 9 or less, lots of scalped and dry mud areas, if you happen to find a greenside bunker odds are your ball will be in the heelprint of a size 13 shoe or one of dozens not raked by etiquette ignorant players. If you are part of a 4some..plan on twosomes on your heels all round and add the time to let them thru...we had to let 4 groups pass of twosomes..added about 45 mins to the round. Good layout but terrible condition in every aspect...has been the play heavy side until the South opened recently...spend the xtra $ and play the South...great layout and in good shape.
$5 will get you a small bucket of range balls that look like they were refugees of a putt putt course, dimple faded knuckleballs, junk pond balls etc. Warmup only but dont expect to work on the game.

unless you can conjure up an internet package the price is somewhat out of line for course conditions and the "cattle drive" tee times, altho pace of play is not that excruciating...4:15 to 4:45 depending on skill of the group (singles and dbles get paired willynilly). Snackbar is no value...drinks or sandwiches xpensive. $6 for a smallish bucket of balls...have had as few as30 with avg about 35. Many of the balls are dimple smooth from wear....warmup only...not good for practice as yardages all over the map depending on the newness of the ball....reminds of "limited distance" range balls. Outside service and starter are excellent to the max....worthy of a decent tip every time. Greens are lightning fast...would say 15 to 18 on a stimp..treat a 10 footer as if it is 6 inches. Money matches should play "roll em everywhere" as public play has no clue how to replace divots or use the sandbox on every cart...bunkers are seldom raked and footprints galore in the waste areas. Great course for "snowbirds" to get the kinks out..wide open for the most part....elevated greens. lots of sandy waste bunkers off fairway. Havent lost a ball in 6 rounds....have to walk to course from my condo or would find a better price and course.

ok for warmup. If you need to work on yardages or serious game work dont bother. range balls are like you find at putt putt courses. Many balls are so old the dimples are almost gone..causing duckdivers and sidewinders. And the price of $6 for a smallish bucket isnt cost effective. Found solid hits go about 70% of what good range balls go...guessing these are the limited distance balls as the range appears to end after 200yds or so. Warm up and enjoy a great layout of the course in excellent condition...can be jammed if weather is excellent so be patient.
Average course.
Very slow over 21/2 hrs on the first nine
Players don't seem to know about the ' ready play ' rule
