Rancho Solano Golf Course
Played On 01/02/2023Had the course to ourselves!
While we endured a bit of rain (.03" per hour) and some coldness, we had the benefit of having the course to ourselves. Finished the round in 3.5 hours never waiting on anyone. Great day for golf on an excellent public golf course.
Hiddenbrooke Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2018Good day of golf, but deteriorating conditions
I walked this hilly course so my blisters are just now healing. I need the exercise and haven't been getting it pushing my foot to a pedal. Hiddenbrooke is always challenging with it's altitude changes, tall grasses, and sometimes windy conditions but I have to say I was disappointed with the lack of care for the course and perceived deterioration since golfing hear last year. The tee boxes especially need work. In several cases the boxes were hacked away with no real place to get a good footing. There were also numerous second cut sections where the tractor didn't pick up the cut grass leaving it to ferment and turn yellow and making it easy to lose a ball.
I scored well and my partners enjoyed the great weather, but I believe there is plenty of room for course improvements.
The Metropolitan Golf Links
Played On 07/03/2018Trending downward
I'm not sure if Metro fired it's ground staff, but there has been a noticeable depreciation in conditions in the last 3 months. The tee boxes were in poor condition and apparently overplayed, based on the many divots. The fairways were yellowing in many spots that were once green. The traps were inconsistent. Some had well raked 2" sand depth yet others were hard packed and wet. The greens were in good condition. In current conditions, I would spend > $40 for a round of 18 holes w/ cart.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - West
Played On 03/05/2017Sponge golf
I got a great base green fee of $17 for 18 holes on a wet, cold Sunday afternoon around 12:15 PM. Walked right on and golfed by myself. The course is still very wet and I would not recommend play until things start drying out. In the last 2 weeks I have golfed other Solano County courses including Hiddenbrooke, Cypress Lakes, and Blue Rock West. Hiddenbrooke drained the best of the three, but it's probably just too soon to get out onto these wet courses. Regardless, I quit after 9 holes at BR as the conditions were poor.
Shadow Lakes Club
Played On 09/05/2016Great day.
Good company and great weather. For a course that is open part time, I am impressed w/ the better than average course conditions. Most of the fairways were green and tufted, however the 16th fairway was mostly dirty and the fact that this is a down hill lie into an island green makes the approach shot over water almost impossible. I would like to see more care taken on the 16th fairway, but overall the staff is "moving mountains" keeping this obviously financially burdened course alive!
Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
Played On 07/17/2016Fun trick course, but suffering post drought.
The day was beautiful, good friends, and fast play on a Sunday afternoon. And as always I enjoyed the magnificent views of the bay from the 14th and 15th hole. My gripe is that while most other bay area public golf courses recover from the drought, this course looks to have severely degraded with many balding spots and yellow colored fairways. It's been a good 6-8 months since I played here but the conditions were actually better mid-drought then they are now. The irony is that (this course included) Golf Now has recently instituted (high) pricing fixing at this course as well as others and I just don't feel the price justifies the cost.
Lone Tree Golf Course
Played On 07/01/201618 holes led to 36 holes
Played on a Friday and finished in 3 hours and 15 minutes. We were lucky that a foursome ahead of us allowed us to play through on the 2nd hold par 3. The course is in very good condition, post drought, and I can see where they are working on bringing the greens up to snuff. We finished the first 18 holes so quickly we decided to play another 18 at a great rate of $16/golfer. Overall and excellent day to work on my game.
Rancho Solano Golf Course
Played On 9/14/2013Great public course!
I hadn't golfed Rancho Solano in about 8-10 years but it's just as nice as I had remembered. The fairways are in great shape and I mentioned to my golf partner that you just can't find a bad lie. I thought the front nine was easier than the back. I shot a 40 on the front and a 50 on the back. The back nine plays a bit longer and the wind started picking up around 1 pm or so. Beware of some of the hilly greens...especially the 8th hole. I got lucky enough to putt uphill but my partner demonstrated that coming from above left of the hole you essentially have to lag your putt out a good 20 feet left of the cup, give the ball a love tap and watch it roll on past! The 18th hole was similar. Stay below the cup on your approach to the green.
Diablo Creek Golf Course
Played On 9/8/2013Great day of golf
Enjoyed the course. It's been about 10 months since I've played here, but I noticef the course conditions have improved. The Marshall did a great job of moving folks foward, when traffic backed up on the 4th hole and had folks on the par 3 tee box drive once the previous group had reached the tee...this technique actually helped w/ the Saturday log jam and sent a signal to me that the course was being "actively managed".
Tilden Park Golf Course
Played On 8/30/2013My favorite public course
Tilden has been and continues to be my favorite course in the East Bay area. The beauty is incredible...I actually saw a deer grazing just below the 14th tee.
Delta View Golf Course
Played On 5/24/2013Good pace, well tended....great value
I left work early on this pre-Memorial Day Friday and hit the course around 4 PM. I felt the couse was well tended and the greens were pretty consistent other than a few back nine uber-undulating layouts.....I mean to the point where the ball was tracking sideways on long putts. The scenary on some holes was awesome and at a point I had to pinch myself and remind myself that I was actually in Pittsburg, CA! Started the round as a single, but by the 7th hole caught up to a regular golfer at Delta View. He agrees the course is a value and tells me the pace of play moves quickly even on weekends. My only complaint would be that many of the cart paths are severely cracked and I feel they could use some maintenance. Other than that I great day of golf at a better than average golf course.
