Played Thanksgiving Day at Barony. The course is fun with wide fairways, but watch out for the water -- not always visible and ringed with plants that swallow wayward shots. Pace of play started good, but two or three groups ahead got slightly backed up on the second nine.

When looking for a Tuesday morning tee time, the course selections were oddly limited -- but Palmetto Hall's Arthur Hills course was open and I decided to try it. Glad i did. Played somewhat long for me but a great layout and the course was well maintained. Very few bookings on the day I played so I got around quickly without any anyone in front until I caught up with a family group on 17 -- but we all moved along OK through 18. Would play here again or try their Robert Cupp course.

Had a great day at Dolphin Head. A challenging course to play and got a bargain rate with an online tee time deal. One of my Hilton Head favorites and will definitely return next time I visit.

Booked a Sunday afternoon time at Old South which has always been welcoming for play with the family. Varied tees, including for beginners, lets everyone play to their ability. However, this is still a challenging course - especially the bay-side holes with caries over the marsh (bring extra balls). Pace of play was good. Several groups were out but all moved along without delays.

Played with my adult daughter and we were well paired with a similar father/daughter pair. Pace of play was good. Some tricky over the water shots, but the course is fair overall. Wildlife seen along the way - birds, gators - is a pleasant bonus. I like playing Shipyard because I can mix play between the three nines and it keeps the course layout varied when I return.

Robbers Row is a favorite and one of my must play courses on Hilton Head. Interesting and varied layout with some scenic views with a little Civil War history along the way. Moderate difficulty but fair if you hit it well.

The weather was colder then normal, but the course was in good shape and the greens excellent. Great value for an afternoon round.

I always play Old South when in the Hilton Head area. Conditions were good and the staff is always welcoming and helpful. A fun and challenging course with great views on the bay-side holes (but bring extra balls for those).

I always play Robbers Row when in Hilton Head. Don't always play well, but always enjoy playing there. This time the greens were recently treated (green dyed fertilizer?) so a bit on the hard side and mot rolling very well, but it remains an interesting and challenging layout with good variety of design. The Port Royal facilities and staff are usually great as well.

Played Barony and the course is in better condition than I remember from 2 or 3 years ago. Wide fairways on most holes. Large undulating greens. A good course for all types of players.

I always play Old South when in HHI/Bluffton. This visit was a late afternoon 9, but whether 9 or 18 this is a fun and varied golf course with a mix of open, wooded, and challenging bayside holes (on either 9). Built for golf and not through a development, it has the best bay views of the courses I've played here. The staff is friendly and helpful and the course is set up to be fun for all levels of player.

Generally wide fairways and challenging but fair approach opportunities. Greens are in beautiful shape and fast, fast, fast -- nothing like what's back home -- so practice your putting if playing here. Weather was overcast but the course was in great condition. Played here last year and had plans to come back so was also happy to receive e-mail on special rates which made playing this fun and enjoyable course a great deal!

Shipyard has three separate 9's so is a good choice for a quick 9 or an 18 round. Booked last minute morning play and found the course uncrowded and in good shape. Fairways are generally wide but narrowed in places by ponds, etc. so straight shots are valued. Greens were smooth and fast, but not overly so. Save time for post round food or drinks on the enjoyable patio that overlooks the incoming play from #9 on Galleon.

I always try to play the Port Royal courses in HHI. Got to play Robbers Row again after a couple years and really enjoyed this long and rather challenging course where the variety of hole designs are well suited for average to advanced players. Port Royal's excellent clubhouse facilities, welcoming staff who treat you great, and well maintained courses make playing any of their courses well worth a visit.

Played Shipyard shortly after it reopened after hurricane. Fairways and greens in good shape, hole design has variety and interest -- but it's a typical HH Island layout set between houses, so don't come expecting scenery. Staff was polite but businesslike. Played early in the day, it was not busy, and played without any delay. Partner was only out for 9, so had back 9 all to myself (a real treat but rare occurrence on the Island). Rate was a bit higher than what I'm used to at home but average for HHI courses and fair for the fun round I had. Would play here again, but might look for hot deal or reduced rate later in the day.

Course conditions at Dolphin Head were great except along the sides and far edges due to tree cleanup after hurricane. Staff was polite and the starter got me paired up and out a bit early. Got paired with another player and we were evenly matched shot for shot and both had an excellent round of golf. That said, for my 11 am tee time the course was somewhat busy but certainly not crowded, nor was the pace of play slow at any point either in front of us or from behind - so I'm confused about bad reviews from others on the same day?? I'll be back and if Brown Golf can maintain the quality of this formerly private course it's definitely worth playing here.

My first time playing here after being recommended and finding a super deal online. The course looked like it would be fun when dry, but it must not drain well at all. It had rained two days earlier - just regular rain, not a drencher and in fairness, they e-mailed beforehand that it would be cart paths only. But after two days of clear weather this course was mushier than anyplace I've ever played. Other courses in the area were fine the day before, so I'm not sure why Eagle's stayed so wet. For the low rate I got I'm OK about it, but don't pay a lot to play if it's been raining.

Recommended as family friendly and was able to book 9 hole round with spouse. Multiple tee lengths accommodated our different skill levels very well (would also be good for kids with basic golf skills). Course conditions were good. Holes get more challenging as you move through each set of 9. For the casual/occasional player the views of bay and shore birds added interest, and after-round dining or shopping is nearby in in old Bluffton.

Old South was recommended as a family friendly course while staying in HHI. Played as a single to check it out. Conditions were very good and the staff friendly. Multiple tees offered including jr length (approx 2,200 yds) so very welcoming for beginners. Pace of play no problem but November is not a busy time. Enjoyed the variety of holes - both 9s start inland with some wooded areas. Play proceeds to 2 or 3 holes along the bay with great views and challenging carries over marsh areas (bring extra balls) before ending with a long inland closing hole. Views of bay and only 2 holes along side of houses make this one of the few courses that does not thread through a development (neighboring Hilton Head National the other). Definitely would (did) return.
